  1. Hey Guys, I think this scenario is good with very few dull moments - apparently, it's playing out the way the real battle did although I think I would have achieved more but my troops will not follow my orders (understandable). From the pic below, I'm hung up on that first crest and the germans have a very good defense laid out. Just beyond the crest are panzer Iv's, halftracks and troops and about 1Km back are tigers. So, even if you knock out the panzer Iv's just over the hill, the tigs have you zeroed in at long range. The buffer line (so to speak) of infantry wasn't too bad but getting over that hill with anything is close to impossible and especially when my troops won't follow orders. I think the casualties would be high but breaking the german defense was possible. I still have a lot of turns left but think it's time to call it a day at Prokharovka.

  2. Guys,

I just finished playing this scenario and I thought it was good - not dull at all. I did fairly well with my infantry but my tanks took a pounding, lost all but 4 of them. At first, I wasn't sure how to attack, then I decided to advance my guys and my tanks during an artillery bombardment on a forward enemy position and this worked! However, I still do not think I should have lost so many tanks. Anybody here played this scenario before? Comments?

  3. Hey guys,

They should change the name of this scenario to: "Tiger's Feast" If you enjoy fairly fast paced game with almost none-stop tank duels you will love this one. I usually don't play the axis but I wanted to see just how good those Tigs were, and I was impressed! Too bad for the axis the allies just showed up the next day with another 100 tanks...Here's a screen shot.

  4. Thanks guys...

This is the next position which DID cause some problems for the attacking force. The bazooka team was located about fifty meters further into the woods from the visible squad in the top right area of the map. I think this scenario was quite realistic a worked my view so I was the commander of the sherman - actually got butterflies waiting for the panthers to come out of the woods. Pretty cool! ;)

  5. Guys, this question has probably been asked but I can't find it here...where are the updated scenarios located? I downloaded a few scenarios from the scenario depot but they won't load and I'm told to go to this site for the updates.

    Thanks

  6. Ok...I am tired of keeping Tigers and Panthers busy by letting them shoot holes in me. I need some help handling my armor - should you try to find a hull-down position all the time? maneuver more slowly? Recon? The only successful tactic I've used is "shoot n scoot" which DOES work on occasion.

  7. For starters I'm glad this is just a video game! :) and not the real thing because my commanding officer would be very concerned about the casualty figures coming in from my sector and the supply sergeant would not be to friendly either due to my great loss of equipment. That being said, at least my guys are not still belly aching along that goddamned road! ;) Hey, you have to appreciate some of Georgie's lines in that 1970 award winning movie. I played One Hell of a Morning - US vs Falschirmyaeger in the bocage country today - very good scenario I think. If you go right down to ground level you can get a small idea (very, very small) of what that brutal hedgerow fighting was like. And you definately think through your moves instead of throwing caution to the winds which is typical for my play. I mean, are you going to most past that clearing without checking around that hedgerow corner? if you were really there, you definately would as there could be a very nasty surprise waiting for you to pass by. Tig or Panther? And that would be all she wrote because the german parachute guys are plenty tough. If you only use the high aerial views you can see everything which is not realistic but when you go down to ground level, you really have to stop and ponder a bit. You see no friendly units because of the vegetation and you ARE on YOUR own and making the right decision is paramount. How did I finish? Well, those Falschirmyaeger guys are very tough and do not like to give up ground. Kicking back and waiting for arty to do the work still doesn't get the job done so you have to assault and root them out - not easy. The game decision was a draw. Well, I won't be sleeping in that french hotel with plenty of babes tonight (read scenario briefing smile.gif

  8. Actually, I'm going to start designing some scenarios here shortly - I'm still learning the editor and doing research on some skirmishes/small battles in North Africa and Italy. I am trying to find more info on the LRDG and SAS because I think those small encounters far out on the desert flanks were interesting. You know, a lot of the small battles we never heard about....Next, Mount Cassino is definately on "the plate" and with the large amount of reference material online the regiment size confrontations can be broken down to company and platoons! I am only picking actions that were not boring (well, from a gamers point of view) with plenty of armor but not really huge because the game can get to long and complicated which some of us don't like. I am trying for the medium to large 20 to 30 turns. Oh, if you enjoy reading about the Ardennes offensive then you have to play Manhay at Christmas! smile.gif

  9. Thanks wildass I might take you up on that. When I first looked at the scenario Tiger Valley I knew right away that it was very good - the layout of the towns, the geography, the forces involved, etc I said "this is going to be really good!" What would make this game even more realistic (an option) would be no above or aerial views of the battle field following the setup phase. Then you get a small idea of what sitting in the turret of one of those Grants was like - especially when an 88 near misses and you have no idea where the shot came from! In other scenarios (Normandy) I thought having Fireflys or M10's evened up the odds a little but it doesn't. The allied Optics and Firing system is good but is still subpar to the german tanks. We're still outclassed out in the open so you might as well bail out. Close-in flank shot from 300 meters or less and a veteran crew is paramount otherwise I would not chance it.... Anybody play Manhay at Christmas? This IS also a good scenario! I was really getting chewed up by that Panther column, I mean they were kicking serious ass until I started defending with more flexibility...I'll supply some screen shots of my positions...oh, bazookas are practically useless (especially the american ones with green troops) The graphics are really good though and sometimes you feel like you ARE right there! Just like your Uncle or Granddad ;)

  10. Hi Guys,

First, I started playing CMAK a few weeks ago and this is really an excellent game! Ok, I have some questions about this scenario and maybe someone can help. I've played this as the allies twice with the "experience" set first to "normal" and then to "+3" for the germans. Both times, the german attack is extremely slow (or maybe cautious and methodical) and never really unfolds as the reinforcements received by the allies are never really needed. If the tigers were to advance steadily down the road or the train track the allied player would be in for a very long day, but this never happens. Is there some way to change the type of german attack or is it meant to played like this? maybe it's not meant to be played allied vs. ai...anybody have some input here?

    Thanks,

    Charlie

  11. Hey, I am really enjoying this game especially all the battle of the bulge scenarios...Are there any new ones that can be downloaded? Also, I am sure this has been discussed but how far do you think peiper would have got before allied airpower stepped in - if he had not run out of fuel or have been diverted at trois points?

  12. Hi Guys,

I just purchased Beyond Overlord (my first game from Battlefront.com) and I am absolutely thrilled with this game! This is the kind of game I used to dream about smile.gif I used to be a sofware QA engineer and would have loved to be apart of the build! Very, very cool game and I am glad to be here
