  1. - lads ? Progress reports from the eastern software realms ? Just curious ... michael
  2. yup, that is exactly what I mean and what initially drove tarball (and some others) to open the thread. Michael
  3. Barra, are you talking about a crash or a non-responding main application still running, "Alt-Tabable" in the Task-Manager and listed as running there (the "Hanging" or "Freezing" refered to earlier) ? Just for clarification. Michael.
  4. - now, I am devastetd to report that the freezing/hanging came up again after five minutes gameplay. This happened with completely disabled Sound Hardware Support, without any spyware the scanner were aware of and with everything killed that moved in the background using EndItAll2. Due to the apparently random nature of the hanging, you are almost forced logging statistical data on that matter. I myself am now convinced that it had nothing to do with Sound Hardware Support. I may have just had a lucky time when I was able to play ninety minutes in a row.
  5. .. after some more thorough testing, it turned out that the freezes came back, sadly enough. I checked it with reduced and without Sound HW acceleration. Even only basic HW acceleration leeds to early freezes. But without any HW acceleration I could play for about 2 hours. So perhaps disabling HW support results in longer periods between the freezings.
  6. Thx gun, yes you got me right, though my description was a little clumsy, I fear But the normal way it seems not to work for me ? (I think) I cannot "deselect" the first unit selected, the newly set waypoint is alway approached by the unit I selected first on the map. Maybe on the weekend I have some time to investigate this in detail. Do you guys try to use this "tactical" planning feature at all or are you just go and fight alone with your tank ?
  7. This is based on the single player mission where you have the jeep, the brdm and you'll be nailed by those two T55 (or whatever tanks) later. I forgot the name since I am at work now and cannot look it up. Anyway, it seemed to me that to direct an attached unit, you have every time to open and close the map with f11. What I mean is, I can only give orders to the unit I clicked first on the map screen, no matter which one I select later in the same "map screen session". Then I have to close the map screen and to reopen it, select another unit and plot a waypoint for that one. Doing this, I was able to direct a rifleman and the brdm and my tank into different directions. I am not sure if I uderstood that right, though, and maybe one of the buffs here could comment on it.
  8. Preliminary victory report : I *DIS*abled Hardware Sound with DXDIA and tried the game *without rebooting*. The sounds are now a bit choppy from time to time, but ... for the first time, the game ran 1.5 hours without freezing. The longest period for me so far was about 0.5 hours, maybe less. I did not have more time to test today, so maybe I was just lucky. But I experienced landscapes and forrests I never saw before ... keep you updated. 9. I am afraid that this did not do the trick for me. I guess the reason for so many different (and insufficient) suggestions here to fix the freeze is its random nature. Looks like I can play anytime between ten minutes and about 45 minutes or so, with one poster saying he was able to play it for three hours. I was about to post my solution, disabling the background music, as a fix right until now, when it froze after 10 min., again. It is really now a most frustrating matter for me as I spend a couple of hours in trying ... and I do not have an audigy card. For the record, my Specs: Pentium 4 CPU 3.40GHz L2 On-board Cache : 1MB ECC Synchronous Mainboard : MICRO-STAR MS-7091 Total Memory : 1.5GB DDR-SDRAM Chipset 1: Intel 82915G/GV/GL/P/PL/GL Memory Bus Speed : 2x 166MHz Video: NVIDIA GeForce 6610 XL 128 Mb (Nvidia 77.72) Sound: C-Media Rear Panel Audio 5.10 Microsoft Windows XP/2002 Home (Win32 x86) 5.01.2600 (Service Pack 2) Game runs fluently with everything set up to high. 10. Any news on that issue, now that the gc has ended ?
  11. same here, got SB back from the shelf. Really a nice effect. I too almost forgot how good it is.
  12. To get the joystick to work reasonable in the game, you have to set it up in the config-file (T72 config in you game folder). And likewise you should set the joystick option to zero if you are not going to use it but you still have it connected to the computer while playing T72. The fact that after activating the Joystick option the mouse only controls your views with the left button pressed is a feature (btw, the same feature you find in Steel Beasts 1 and I would bet in SB2 as well ...since it makes sense).
