Thats a couple of times you have refered to the original as being uncorrupted.

What am I missing with the CDV versions?

  2. I installed the PC gamer demo way back when (forCMBB)and read Andy Mahood's rave review. with no manual or clue how to play I farted around a bit but never got into it. I knew it was something special but not having internet back then I accessed no info on the game. I kinda forgot about it then saw a copy at a Future Shop outlet and picked it up. After a few false starts I finally determined that I really had to learn this game. I have to say it is simply the best game I have ever played! I just picked up a copy of CMBO before Christmas and finally installed it but I hav'nt started playing it yet. I found another copy in a bargain bin for $10.00 Can.(thats about $2.37 US) with the intention of giving it to a friend. (I have to pick one who will actually want to spend the time to learn the game)

Man, just what is my point? well it boils down to:

should I pick up a 3rd $10.00 copy of CMBO and give a game to all my friends....?

    *-)

or should I just stick to the eastern front cause I love it and I'm lazy?

(there really is another brand new $10.00 copy with manual and pretty box waiting for me/us. My original used purchase cost $30.00 with bent, broken spine, pizza stained manual but I digress.)

Anyway ,I have never played person to person mostly because with computers it takes me an insanely huge amount of time to learn anything new ("new", that is, with computers, like all that E-mail stuff and setting up files and whatnot plus the "pride" and "shame" bits but the 1st step to solution is admitting a problem -thanks BFC for providing a safe and happy place to state my true PC inadequacies but I digress AGAIN!) plus my games usually play at about 5 - 6 turns per hour!(is this normal?)

    What I mean to say is;

Should I dive into CMBO? I mean, they've got CANADIANS! Even Canadians don't make games about Canadians! And South. Albertans too! C'MON! ( any "Princess Pats" scen. out there? How'z aboot the "Devils Brigade"? O manO manO man)

Should I start playing Player Vs. Player? Remember, this will be scary for both of us.

Does it really take 3 nights of downloading and installing to get a few mods just to troll around the Steepe looking for an armor marking or an insignia on my dead platoon HQ? Ive lost sleep man! Plus I didn't back ANY files up and have no idea how to "Mod Manage" and I think I have invented a new one for the shrinks.(... just this one more honey...)

Is anyone interested in BOX copies of CMBO? Brand new mint condition *Special Edition*

    Quantity - 2

Full manual included - $20.00 Can.

Vintage pre owned CMBO complete with *Authentic Veteran Battle Stained Manual*

    Quantity - 1

    $60.00 Can.

    Anyone?

Did I mention that this is the best game I've ever played?

So I gush a little, I'm sure everyone has at least once (or really wants to... or have their cup runneth over to eyes glazed family members, or friends, or pets 'n such like)

A vibrant community of true believers helps too.

  3. I find that in my limited experience (AI only...so far...) that I can assault with FT in tandem with lots 'O smoke.

Advancing on trenches and fox holes from as little as 10m is incredibly effective!

Twice I have plunged FT through smoke (While supressing /w Inf.)and devastated defence positions.

One of those times I broke a squad just by showing up! I guess the sight of my fire vomiting teams advancing thru the smoking hell of war was just to much!

I have yet to try FT on vehicles but I am very glad this thread has been "ressurected".

  4. Can anyone tell me how the percentages in the game results work? 69% @ the end of a large scenario only got me a Tactical Victory. Would 70 % have done it?

I missed a flag on the way but had 23 vehicles destroyed to my 8 and 256 casualties to my 53! Can I help it if 350+ men Ok to my 250+ men Ok are left when they have barely advanced across the map?

Am I advancing to slow or is it just the missed flag?

    *-)

    PS

I can be a rather timid attacker but IMHO being thorough really helped on this one.

    Thanks

    PPS

    the scenario was "BT EarlyWittman"

    PPPS

By "missed one flag on the way" I mean a small one on my side of the road. the big flag in the center was held by russians just at the second last turn because I herded them all in there by surrounding them. Most of their remaining men were nowhere near my men and I waited too long to rush the flag.

  5. OK you pro designers , How about doing the scenario I described huh? Change things up a little? I mean the Ruskies were caught with their pants around their ankles that morning werent they? Some R. army could interpret events for themselves despite Stalins irrational trust in Hitler but lots were completely unprepared so how about it? I HAVE made this scenario (for fun @ HOME) and the 1st 15-20 turns are a blast.I never played much further though cause so many things were wrong I would have to start from scratch.(like the Germans advancing from the east...woops!)

  6. For CMBB , would anyone be interested in an early(maybe semi) historical "German Blitz" which can only be played by Russians? This would include locked units, weakened and tired units (but lots of them) Green Russian officers not with their units and outdated armour? The biggest challenge would be assembling and positioning defence amidst massive air strikes and advancing armour.

    Anyone?

I have never designed a scenario before but am interested in the "unfolding story" instead of doing what you want in the set up. I hav'nt DL any scenarios yet either so if their are any "locked unfolding story scen." out there could someone tell me?

    Thanks

  7. The most common German attack plan was the "pincher" that is, flanking both sides (to a degree) and then pinching. This works well in both inf. and armour.I know this is an old post so I really don't expect any new thoughts

(there, that might stir things up a bit)

  8. O K guys , I've been having a blast with FT teams! In "a morning at the zoo" I advanced them up the middle behind infantry and pinned a few dug in squads, then laid in some smoke and brought FT up and thru. WOW did they ever do a good job! 2 squads down and one routed! all three teams are still alive and OK.

then I accidently deleted my saved game.

    !#@$!%&!!!

I'm gonna try the half track tip asap thanks for all the tips-I would love to see a mod for the fire stream as well.
