Yeah had to happen (especially as it was so easy for me to download too).

I get the game going, I select all the usual options, but when game is ready to play, I get this odd message.

    failed (lost surfaces): Segmentation Violation

    That is pretty much verbatim.

    Anyone have any ideas?

There is a known issue on some systems when you attempt to switch focus away, i.e. an ALT-TAB, during the AI animation turn. Can you confirm that this is not the case? In general though if you do not switch focus away during AI replay the game should run fine.

If it is just a general lost surfaces error can you retry the download as perhaps it was corrupt. </font>

  2. I say keep North AMerica on the map! I always thought of SC as a game about WWII, not a replay of it. Just because the Germans never invaded North America is no reason it can't happen in the game. The never invaded England so should that be gone as well? Part of the fun is being able to decide your own outcome to a war that started in Europe but who says it has to end there? If you want play to remain historical the the Allies win everytime so why play? Just my $.02.........

  3. Marklavar---you said "needs a 'hook' to draw buyers in"-- That sounds like a saying I use about Mac's-- If you can't sell them on substance, sell them on style!

I sure hope that is not the intent here, nor do I think it is. I do however think some things will be sacrificed for the "new look". The new look takes time, which is money, which Hubert only has so much of to develope the game. For me the isometric view doesn't work and the squares over hex's doesn't work. I don't think there is any way we can do anything but trust Hubert does as good as we all know he can and maybe by SC3 he'll come to his senses tongue.gif

  4. Thanks for the kind words Jersy. I thought when I first saw the info on the new game I should take the time to speak up because this is one of those games (SC1) that I love so much I'll play it for years to come. Because of that I want SC2 to be all it can be and if I wanna complain about what I don't like better to do it now rather than later. Who knows, if a lot of people feel the same as me maybe we, I, can help mold the game.

  5. I would have to agree withe two comments her. One is that this seems like it would make it easy to punch a hole in the lines and two that it will make you think about your own lines when the counter attack comes in the next turn. It seems the "Blitzkrieg" part of the title can come into play here.

Also, thanks to Hubert for taking time to read these fourms and try to address the concerns of the fans. It's easy to say you care but not many people take the time to show it.

  6. Well by score I mean the score they give you at the end of the game.

I too look to see how fast I can conquer certian countries and try many different stratiges. I'm really asking just to see where I sit compared to others. I scored a personal best of 322 the other day buy I have no idea if that is high or low. I'm sure a lot depends on how you play though.

  7. Not sure if anyone reads this fourm now that the SC2 fourm is open but.....

When playing the Fall Wiess campaign as the Axis against the computer, what is considered a good score? Since all I have ever played is the cpu and never asked I don't know where I land. Just that I doubt my scores are as high as most people here.
