I wasn't really sure what this one meant. Does it mean your pilot gets to go first?Originally posted by Blue_Lead:- a skill to help get the first turn

Whew! I was starting to think I might need to have all my mail checked for explosives and anthrax if I didn't get it fixed soon.

Ok. I made another adjustment to the program. Hopefully, this one will do the trick.

What level of pilot and aircraft are you flying? Also, what type of missions (1v1, 2v2, dogfight, escort)? I'll try something equivalent to see if it happens to me.

I blame Dan.

I updated the server tonight with what I hope will fix the problem with games hanging up. I'll wait to hear back from you guys to see if it improved the situation.

Actually, it wasn't so much that the computer couldn't handle 1/+2. The Mosquito and the Fw-190 both started out with a 1/+2 rating and did not have a heavy cannon bonus. It just made them too powerful, so we scaled it back to a 1/+1 rating and gave them a heavy cannon rating of 1 to compensate.

The pilot.db is the most important, but I'd save all the ".db" files and restore them after you have reinstalled the game.

Oh crap. Now I have to buy a truck so I can put a gun rack in it.

I have nightmares about angry DiF players massing around my house with pitchforks, buckets of tar and piles of feathers.

I'm working on it guys. It has been a tough one to track down because it is intermittent. I suspect that the increased load on the server has uncovered a bug that happens under certain conditions. I'm logging additional information and starting to home in on where the problem seems to be coming from, but haven't figured it out yet.

Yes, it's supposed to be that way. The bomber units are usually named after a squadron. Hikokitai roughly translates to a Japanese squadron (I'm sure others can give a more precise translation).
-
Yup. Understood. I just wanted to make sure everyone knew that if it is happening, it is not what was intended.

Finding a balance that works for all player expertise and pilot experience levels is difficult, to say the least. There are so many variables to contend with.
In general, we're trying to improve the Bot intelligence so that we don't have to rely as much on pumping up their skills such as draw extra cards.
Good point about the Bot pilots not discarding sometimes when they probably should. I'll take a look at tweaking that logic a little bit.

This should not be the case. When a wingman gets promoted to leader, he should draw from the "normal" (non-Wingman) deck from that point forward. I realize it's hard for you guys to know for sure what's happening behind the scenes, but if a lot of you feel this is happening, I'll look into it further.Originally posted by lakespeed:1) When your Leader goes down, and your Wingman becomes Leader, it seems that he still draws from the Wingman deck. This is a serious disadvantage when it is 4 vs 1 and you are trying to even the odds a little. But you do get more defensive cards.
I think a lot of your observations are on the mark. These changes are fairly "simple" in concept, but they are very far reaching in effect. Personally, I like the changes because it brings more "personality" to each aircraft.

The new enhancements are in place and ready for download. Have fun!!

It's the sum of the value of all the pilot's skills plus the value of his aircraft.
-
It looks like it has something to do with having the leader's hand displayed in the pop-up window at the time he gets shot down, but I'll have to look into it.
-
Is there any kind of pattern to it? For example, does it tend to hang up at the same phase (such as when the AI discards)? Does pausing and then unpausing the game have any effect?
-
Not much, really. As mentioned, the level of victory has some effect on how fast you get promoted to the next rank. Beyond that, it comes down to the fact that most players want some measurement that tells them whether they "won" or "lost" the battle. Just comes down to bragging right, I guess.

We seriously considered a subscription model for DiF. It gets very complicated rather quickly. Besides managing payments and subscriptions, you have to manage which features are available to demo players versus players with the full version but not subscribed versus players with the full version that are subscribed.
In the end, we decided that the current model would make it easier on everyone. It's very simple. Buy the game and you have access to everything the game has to offer. We try to throw in new features, aircraft and campaigns every so often to keep things interesting. And once in awhile we come out with an expansion pack to give you a bunch of new stuff, and help bring in some more cash to keep the server running.

It's for the purposes of determining who the "winner" of the mission was. The ratio of XP earned during the mission factors into who won.
