  1. Possible spoiler:

I overran in "High Tide at Thala" British positions, and captured about 93 of them during the clean up of the pass and the orchards next to the street. My advance was slow and methodical, mainly because it was a night scenario. I think the combination of firepower concentration and the early possesion of a Victory flag helped to cause this situation.

  2. Look for: "SmallBattles_SighBridge1940" by Wayne "Rutledge" Hans at

    SPOILER:

The bridge just named had been rendered useless for vehicles by positioning AT - mines (those which can be seen and easily removed) on the bridge. This should represent vehicle wrecks, which had been destroyed during an former air raid and which are then blocking the escape route for the British. Put some Engineers near to the mines and they will clear them (in about 20-30 minutes!) without satchel charges.

  3. Back to your topic, about German command tactics:

On Squad (Gruppe) level the platoon leader gives the order (for example) to advance through a forest. This order must be executed within limits of time and space (2 hours left; do not leave the forest), but the execution of this order in detail lies in the decisions of the Squad leader himself. If he decides (e.g.)to avoid the narrow street because he thinks that its covered by an enemy MG, then he leads his squad through the bushes...

Often the minor leaders have a better view of things going on the front than superiors which are back away behind some map tables.

  4. If you do not want to give up your initial defense positions because of your ammo running low, exchange the defending units (a platoon?) with a reserve unit, best during a lull in the fighting. Try to keep the enemy down with MG or artillery fire and sneak the original defenders out of the combat area after the replacements have arrived in your defense line. It is almost impossible to do this, when the enemy is too near.
