  1. I scoured the entire damn country for some traditional sand dunes like you see in the sahara, white sands NM, united arab emirates, etc. Not a single f'n sand dune like that.

I think I'm gonna make a fictional road ambush scenario with sand dunes just because I think it would be fun and the editor gives you the power to create really natural, flowing dunes that look beautiful.

  2. Yeah, I tried hiding the BMPs behind the buildings, but the AI just blew up the buildings and killed them, lol. They're best hidden behind the terrain. They can actually take out some Strykers when placed behind the smaller hill.

I'm gonna try like a hit and run with the AT4 guys. Maybe they'll survive for a little while after exposing themselves with their first shots.

The most important thing with the US is to keep your M1s facing the right direction so they take out the T72s the minute they spot them.

  3. Yeah, yeah, I know. But some of us out there can't get the game right this second, or are waiting for it to be patched.

Anyway, I've been playing the demo mission (the only real mission in the demo, not that stupid "training" one) a lot from both sides.

So far the best tactic for either side seems to be to rush your tanks up the large hill. Sometimes you'll get a tank knocked out, but most of the time you'll completely decimate the enemy in literally seconds. This is "gamey", isn't it?

I don't know anything about real-life tactics. Should I move my M1s and Stykers in together? Should the M1s be in front or behind? Should I go up on the hill(s) or stay in the valley? What's the best way to handle the incoming Syrian tanks? The way they materialize on the edge of the map is very annoying.

The Syrians seem to get destroyed very quickly if they are not well-hidden. So far I find it best to scoot my APCs behind the hills ASAP (or they turn into toasters very, very quickly) and let the US units move into their line of sight, exposing their flanks. Also, I have to hide my tanks similarly from the M1s, and then try to flank them in force. I keep ALL of my Infantry hidden in the trenches and buildings. I keep my AT dudes in the upper floors, but the tanks/ACPs never seem to get close enough.

    Anyway, what do you do?

I don't recall any (decent) strategy games other than CMx1 that even use a right-click menu for commands. RTS or turn-based.

    Close Combat.

Most RTS games these days use right-click (or left- depending on player preference) for unit movement. What little special commands they have are all visible in the UI at the same time, not hidden into sub-tabs.

CMx2 does neither. No context menu for easy access to commands, and no fast movement orders either. The mouse buttons are wasted on camera controls. The game has attempted to reinvent the wheel, and unfortunately with appalling results.

Here's how it should work: Left-click to select a unit, left click and drag to lasso multiple units, left click on terrain to deselect. Right-click on unit for a command context menu. Right-click on terrain to issue a move order, hold and drag to order facing. </font>

LOL. Look at TOAW and then look at CMSF. Then look at TOAW again, just for a laugh. And then look back at CMSF yet again, and fall on the floor in hysterics.

Thank you for your clear inciseful insight on what should constitute a wargame. You may proceed to the Suicide Booth. </font>
