Yup.
Is there a workaround?

So when I issue a move order to infantry via a bridge, they tend to crawl *under* the bridge an then not come out. Or move over the bridge and then go under it.
Any ideas? Do bridges work properly?
Playing Courage and Fortitude Mission 2, with 1.01
-
The 1st was a puzzle yes, but once you solve it once the mission is actually quite straight forward. This is part of my problem though - the missions shouldn't be about 'puzzles' they should reflect allied numerical superiority, huge maps and plenty of time to play, more in line with the old series.
Absolutely. :-)
-
Have the two mortars in the initial setup moved? Has the new arrival?
Artillery can fire quicker when it's more confident of its own position....
-
The other mortar is from a different formation?
-
Which mission did you consider easy, out of interest?
I'm just starting the 2nd and consider the 1st is more of a puzzle than a battle - once you have cracked two "tricks" in your approach then the Germans don't have a chance at all.
-
My main tip is:
Think carefully.
This game is a much more realistic reflection of WW2 era warfare than most games on the market. So if you end up with key units dead, or even just out of position, there is no going back...
Successfully completing a mission requires a much better plan than in just about any other tactical-level wargame.

4 minutes? That's not artillery! That's popguns! What I'm trying to say is that some batteries are going to take 3 times that to come down... Hope you've got good long fingernails
I've not actually experimented with battleships yet, but 12 mins would be on the quick side.... ;-)
-
Western Allied doctrine in 1944 was absolutely to carpet the enemy in as much high explosive as possible, to reduce infantry casualties.
If you want to redefine Combined Arms so that it doesn't include artillery, go right ahead, but you'll find it difficult to have a 20th century historical wargame that suits your inclinations. Particularly one set in Operation Overlord, which even by WW2 standards was a massive triumph of firepower.
Personally I'm looking forward to drawing up some nice big fireplans using the sophisticated artillery tools in the game :-)
@Speedy - "as soon as the spotting rounds come in your troops run away" - yes, fair enough - but does running away help them achieve their objective? ;-)

Thanks!
Any idea how long BF tend to take between releases - is it likely to be 3mos / 6 mos / 12mos before the Commonwealth forces are out?
-
Apologies if this has already been discussed to death. I've seen references to it in other threads so I guess it probably has, but I couldn't see a sticky about it, and I've only just come back to this forum after a long break.
So - what's the plan for the further development of the game? Is Battlefront's plan to release further modules to cover the rest of the Normandy campaign, the rest of NW Europe, the Eastern Front, Italy... etc?
Or is some of this work going to be left to modders?
-
So an artillery concentration is a barrage in the same way that an armoured car is a tank... ;-)
-
No, "barrage" refers specifically to linear artillery fire. It can be rolling, walking, creeping, standing or in a box...
It's often used incorrectly to refer to any artillery fire.
-
Just an observation.
Artillery barrages are in the game - finally - through the use of the "line target".
But the game throughout insists on using the term "barrage" when I think it really means "bombardment" or "concentration".
Am I trying to be overly precise with my terminology? ;-)

The word modern is pretty subjective though. You could take that to mean post industrial revolution or even >2000 AD. I think the idea that modern is anything post WW2 is a bit biased
Actually you could say anything post-1500ish. ;-)
Let's hear it for Maurice, Duke of Nassau and his revolutionary infantry tactics.

Just playing a scenario and a building collapsed without actually taking any fire! The building next door (although detached) had taken a pasting and some foxholes in the adjoining field the other side had had a fair amount of incoming but this building hadn't, to my knowledge, taken any hits (or not major ones anyway).
Suddenly it just collapes.
Don't get me wrong here, this is not a complaint. I get the impression this sort of thing did happen from time to time. It was a barn-type thing and I don't expect they were constructed to have HE going off nearby. Actually, I was rather impressed at the "randomness" of it. Surprisingly realistic (as long as it doesn't happen too often).
The buyer should have got a more detailed survey.
You can't trust what these French farmers will try to sell you. ;-)

Isn't the slg33 a bit too cheap? 113 pts for a single gun. That's 3x cheaper than a sfH18 (2x for 600+ pts).
They have limited use on a few maps (heavy urban) but usually it has no issues hitting the intended target and works pretty much like a howitzer. A 150mm howie that is! They do terrific damage and for 113 points I feel it's a bit too cheap.
On the negative side, they're very slow to move and they're vulnerable to enemy machine guns.
The off-map artillery doesn't have the same issues about shuffling round the map like a particularly heavily-laden tortoise, and won't be suppressed or destroyed by enemy direct fire.

I've not noticed my light mortars in forward positions firing smoke.
Is this because the AI doesn't like doing it and needs to be ordered to?
Or alternatively is it because whenever I get a mortar into that kind of position I forget about tactics and charge?

Merci bien.
Should've mentioned it's running Windows ME. I am pretty sure it's a VIA motherboard but that has never been an issue before.
I'm not entirely sure the drivers for the monitor are correct but I have difficulty finding any for it, and Windows claims it doesn't need any (?)
Thanks for your help - will try again this evening.

I'm having difficulty with the 800x600 error described in the CMAK manual.
I try to play it and get an error message saying "800x600 resolution required" when my desktop is already at 800x600 or better.
Solutions I have tried are:
1. Resize desktop and alter colour depth (various)
2. Delete prefs files (the only option I am then offered is 640x480 software mode)
3. Reinstall 45.23 graphics drivers for GeForce2
4. Reinstall Direcx 9.0b
5. Recover Windows system files from backup and then do 3 and 4 again
6. Use Detonator Destroyer to uninstall drivers then reinstall drivers and directx
The problem persists, despite all of this. Dxdiag confirms the version of DirectX I'm running, but it indicates problems initialising Direct3d (suggesting a wider problem than just CMAK!)
CMBB and CMBO run slowly and only the left-hand 7/8 or so of the screen is visible - the rest 'falls off' the monitor.
System:
Athlon 1.2GHz
256MB RAM
GeForce 2 MX
19" NEC MultiSync monitor
Any help much appreciated.

... use the CMAK scenario editor to create fictional 1940-41 Britain scenarios!
My copy still isn't working thanks to nvidia and their nvidious drivers.
But I'm really hoping that when it's sorted I'll be able to re-enact the Fallschirmjager taking RAF Hawkinge, the German troops approaching Dover from inland, the British armoured counterattack towards Ashford, SS troops hunting down the LDV in Romney Marsh and the bitter hand-to-hand fighting in Brixton.
From what I gather my eagerly awaited CMAK will be able to produce realistic OOBs for Operation Sealion scenarios (with the exception perhaps of LDV/Home Guard units) - but I suspect the only terrain available for 1940 will be North African desert.
Am I right? Has anyone already done something along these lines?
Chris

Actually I gave exactly that kind of order - with a 2-man pioneer section ..... :-S
