  1. Thank you for your feedback Badger. Indeed, the issue now is finding the time. There is just so much to these games.
  2. Did some research and went with Fortress Italy. This thread is closed
  3. Hi all; I have recently been drawn back to this company after a long hiatus. My first and only game that I played was the original CMBO. Fast forward to today and I downloaded a couple of demos and was once again enamored by the game play. My question is: where is the best place to start? I'm looking for recommendations on both game and expansions that meet my below requirements. Here is what Im looking for: Looking for WW2 genre. Would like the latest version of the game engine. ( I believe it is currently at version 3.0) Conducive to both tank and infantry. Utilizes the latest artillery and airstrike capabilities of the software. (I have no clue what these might be) Is not the normandy campaign. Had my fill of Bocage and the saturated green look in the trees in the original CBMO. Can include any nationalities. Perhaps encompasses a time when both allies and axis were strong ( I dont wish to deal with ammunition or material shortages in the campaign) Thanks for any and all help.
  4. Adam; I found that AAR on combat mission HQ, but many of all of the movies links are no longer valid. It also states that I need version 1.03 to run it. Without the movies, I find it hard to visualize. Are there any other more recent links to find the whole thing?
  5. Hi all; I have made a custom made map for a battle for a friend of mine and I to play. We wish to play this map without making it a full fledged scenario. What Im looking to do is to play this map in a TCIP match, where both of us are able to choose our own units. Very much like a quick mission, but using a pre-made map. I have checked the manual and cannot figure out if/how it can be done? Can it be done? If so, how? Thanks
  6. Guys; Thankyou all for the responses. I'm in the process right now of getting ready for bed to go in for my first of four 12 hour shifts starting tomorrow. I'm up at 0400 hrs and need to get going to bed. So I will keep this reply brief. I'm actively looking at several of the books you have suggested and have it narrowed down to four or five books (which I cannotpurchase all at once.) I will keep looking in on the post, but may not reply for the next couple days. Please note that I spent the after noon looking at an AAR by Fionn on Mod and moders. What an excellent tutorial it was. In fact, I tried his technique of "Soviet 1936-38 Break-in/Exploitation doctrine" (albeit on a smaller scale)with a friend of mine (who is equally clueless at the game as me), and OMG! I could not believe the success I had. I completely annihalted my friends forces. Having said that, my aim is now to teach him by showing him the AAR. This stuff really works. Very impressive.
  7. Anybody tried this one? The Soviet Conduct of Tactical Maneuver: Spearhead of the Offensive (Soviet (Russian) Military Theory and Practice, By Glantz? Also wondering about the Isby one. Title looks promising but noticed its out of print.
  8. Adam I tried the URL's on that article and most appear outdated. I'm very interested in looking at them, even if you can give me a search string, I will do the rest. I have read that article that you posted, and am wondering if the tactics apply to CMBO? It is currently the only game of the two that I own. Anyone else replying to this thread, do keep in mind that although I have been exposed to tactical thought in the past, I'm an absolute beginner in how to combine forces and have them execute a proper attack/defence! Adam, any books that you have read on the subject. I have done a search on Glantz, but am completely undecided. Again, I'm interested in history, but even more interested in a book that combines that history with tactical thought .
  9. Wow! Great stuff, thanks so much. I'm starting to look them up right after I type this. Thanks
  10. Hi all; My first post here. I'm purchased CmBO approx 2 years ago and only now am starting to play the game. I'm going through a WW2 phase (esp the western front) and cmbo is a perfect game to bring some visualization to this current interest. I have read many posts, articles (sim hq) and have come to the conclusion that I know nothing about combat infantry/armour/support tactics. I really enjoyed this post in particular. http://www.combatmission.com/articles/Learning/learning.asp It was well written in laymans terms and lead me to the solid belief that I know nothing about tactics! In fact, I really suck! Anyways, Im hoping that someone can post a bibliography that would put me in touch with these types of tactics in a ww2 setting. (Yes, I have looked at the books offered here on Battlefront.com and am unsure of there quality. I have also perused the cmbb bibliography on the site here and am definitely open to some recommended tactics and doctrine reading from that list) Anyways, looking for that preferred reading list if someone has it. Thanks
