, I'm still lurking in the shadows.... waiting patiently. And waiting patiently is the subject of this thread... and I full heartedly agree with John, let's not rush. A good release will garner many more sales than a half-ass product. I'm playing Gary Grigsby's World at War at the moment, and it's certainly a good distraction before SC2. John, I think you'd actually really enjoy GGWAW. Very good game, and keeps very much within the historical perspective. Just had super cool match against the top player, beating him with me as Allies. He postoned Barbarossa til 43, as my opponent had instead opted for a 41 Sealion. I never actually did re-conquer England. USA went straight to Spain and France, and Axis had a pool of units in England that never made it back to the continent. Russia was a monster by 43, Axis fell gracefully in mid-44. Great game, worthy of a try. -
This wasn't a Germany's war as much as it was Hitler's War. Hitler ran the show, entirely by the end of the war.
Hitler had gradually gained control of the Army, until by 1942, it was all but complete. There was no one to stop him by that time, von Brauchitsch (Commander in Chief of Army) being replaced by the Führer himself after the defeat at Moscow. Hitler had full, full control after this point, I cannot emphasize this more than enough. After February 1942, Hitler was the only person, the ONLY person, who saw 'everything' military in nature. He knew and was aware of most military matters, even if he ignored them. He made right and wrong decisions, but the fact of the matter is, he rarely took anyones advice, and no one truly knew how bad the overall situation truly was until it was too late. Even high-ranking generals like Manstein and Zeitzler knew only that their sectors of the front were doing poorly. They simply were either lied to, or not told. Along with the sense of German duty, they could only take limited actions to counter-balance Hitler's wishes, whatever they might be. They tried to fight back some times, resigning in single occasions, like Zeitzler (who was to become head of the Bundeswehr of West Germany in 1952), but did not have much success because their actions weren't collaborated enough. That was also the problem (along with bad luck) with those that wanted to get rid of Hitler, collaboration. Gestapo and SS were strong, but the overall sense of duty and military obedience dampened the resistance of the highest generals to disobey Hitler.
To blame Hitler entirely would not be fair either, he was assisted by many many willing opportunists, thieves, murderers, lackeys and such. His reign was criminal, but the German people as a whole didn't know what was going on.

I'm not patient enough for the 2-3 hours in-between France falling and Russia joining
UK not doing so well, but at least got jets 2. I really need more patience. -
France finished awhile ago. It's August, Norway invasion will proceed the turn after next, Vichy conquered 2 turns ago. RN raiding Algeria after dissappearance of Luftwaffe... Africa holding after destroying one italian army. UK bomber was kept and has been trashing an Italian BB off of Egypt. 2 Italian BB's sunk near Algeria, with 1 BB lost for RN.

Saved 5 free french units. Took Copenhagen too (very temporary though)

We restarted (Sombra had a misclick, asked to restart turn 2).
Same opening as last time. Less damage for german forces in pol, but 7% less of a USA readiness decline for my DoW against Ireland.

Allies use corps dump strat. Let's see how many free french i can rescue (and they don't even know it yet !)

Breakthrough, and failed allied counter-attack. Sombra gives up. Paris probably will fall in April at the most. Italy enters soon.

2 Fr armies destroyed in the counter-attack, 4th and 5th AFs purchased. Denmark corp destroyed, but copenhagen not occupied.
Royal navy cruiser sunk in atlantic.

Failed LC, wasn't even a chance. I thought one army would be HQed. Wasn't. Denmark surrendered tho, and so did poland. Lets see what strat the allies took turn 1.

Well, there's always a first; Pol northern brkthru only succeeds with 2 AF's, south and north. Hope LC succeeds. Rundstedt is there, so that's around average to take it. Crossing my fingers.

Again good job HR. You got the tools you needed in time to beat him, and you used them as well.
@Blashy: I beat Terif in a techless game. Held him in France til October '41. Russia joined 4-5 turns later. No tech involved

Besides, this subject is far too complicated and deep to be discussed in a chat forum. Go read a real book, you'll actually learn something for real (provided it's a good book)

You're all amateurs of history, with the possible exception of HR. Where'd you guys pick up this garbage you call 'facts' anyways? How many books have you people read on the subject of WWII, 1 or 2? Because I've read around 50. To any peruser of this website, please ignore what you read, it's for entertainment value only.
