Thanks for the tip. I had checked their site, but I didn't find any info there, leave alone a support forum, which is why I tried my luck here, hopeing someone else had suffered through the problem and knew a solution.Originally posted by Hubert Cater:Hi Sytass,
Sorry to hear about the trouble. It's probably best to contact the SC Gold publisher directly (Most Wanted Games) as they would be better suited to address the issue:
Hope this helps,
Hubert

I installed the Strategic Command Gold version on my computer without problems. However, when trying to run the game, I get an error for the copy protection - the error mesage I get is
I tried either drives - one is a generic DVD-ROM drive, the other a Philips DVD-RW/writer. I tried disabling all programs in the background, including the virus scanner, but to no avail. I'd be happy if anyone could help me out here."This CD-ROM/DVD-ROM cannot be validated due to installed Copy Protection Installation Software. (#10001)" -
That would mean having to change the main screen every time. I think having the program put it up automatically is not quite possible.Originally posted by Sgt. Steiner:Sytass, I've had your splash screen for a while, as I think it's the best one so far, but have one small request. Could you fix it to where the correct version number is displayed after a patch? Thanks again for the great mod..
About a 800x600 version.... when I *really* have the time some day.

Holy Crap I go to the link and get hit with a load of pop ups!!!!</font>Originally posted by athkatla:</font><blockquote>quote:</font><hr />Originally posted by Sytass:

I screwed up and accidentally uploaded the wrong zip. I corrected it now, and it should be working fine. Sorry for the inconvenience.

The google image search can be absolutely amazing at times.Originally posted by theike:wow sytass; can u tell me where i can get topografic maps like the one in your screenpic??
I would love a hundred of those please...
No seriously, where did u get them?

Thanks for the hint. It's up!Originally posted by MeatEtr:It's a beauty and its the splash screen that i use.
Sytass why don't u put it up over at Cozog's Mod Database?

So that's how the flags turned out, I like the design.
For those not knowing what the splash looks like, here is a shameless self promotion:
In the finished version, the buttons are brighter. And I am still looking for a host for this sucker. (Only 1024x768 available at the moment.)

Like the ones in this thread. Just have to keep looking.Originally posted by Pantherbait:Great stuff, thanks, but why the fascination with German pics ?
Any Soviet ones in the works ?

I just wanted to check my GeForce4 (Ti4600 with 128 MB DDR RAM) settings, since I knew I had a new driver installed a few weeks ago. But when I checked the panels I noticed they were all Finnish....
Wow, those Finns sure use a whole lot more "ä" and "ö" than we Germans!

Oh? Thought this had slumped into obscurity...Originally posted by Sgt. Emren:Bump.
Still no news from Tom's HQ. I think I'll mail him if he's still interested in hosting.

Hm, reminds me of French, where the literal translation of fire is "feu", whereas the command to fire at the enemy is "tirez" from tirer (pulling - the trigger).
I assume this is similar in Hungarian?
-
Hm, in my Bundeswehr time 1995/96 "Stopfen" was still used when we were supposed to cease fire.

I was wondering, with the new reaslism model, is anyone planning to do some scenarios based on that movie? (E.g. the landing, sniper town, machine gun nest, battle for that bridge.)
Sick idea? Well, I came up with it, so what did you expect?

Since people are looking for splash screens with the Soviet flag on the Reichstag I did a rather minimalistic screen on that topic. Is that what you're looking for?
-
Still working on the Soviet design... largest picture of the flag on the Reichstag I found only fills half the width of a 1024x768 screen.Originally posted by Epée:I really like your new one.
Higher res would be just awesome.
BTW, do you have a large bmp of the russian holding the flag over the reichstag?
I would love to have that single picture as my splash screen!
Glad you people like the download I put up. I'm not sure if I'd get to make a 1280x1024 version of it, since I originally designed it in 1024x768. I hope to find the time sometime soon to make a 800x600 version, though.

Ok, since Tom is still not back in business (I presume he has the flue as he mentioned that in a mail to me a week ago) I posted the second splash screen (with the map) on my webspace for the time being.
Beware: That one's only available in 1024x768 so far!
Here is the download link.
The Soviet one is still a work in progress. I will especially change the font to something else, I am not quite content with that one, either, yet.
-
I did that with my previous effort:Originally posted by Le Tondu:I think that it is really nice. Good job.
It seems that splash screens are either showing an all axis theme or an all Russian theme. Is it possible to have one where it shows both sides equally? Thanks.
-
After people commented so nicely on my previous splash screen (see this thread) I decided to do another one, something with a decided Soviet theme.
I think it could need some touching up (Stalin is a bit blurry in full size, maybe I'll get another picture), but here's a look.
-
Just wanted to let people know that the final buttons are finished. Tom hasn't gotten around to putting it on his site yet (seems the flu caught him).
I'd upload it to my personal webspace, but my space there is almost used up, and I have a tight bandwidth limit.
Anyone else wishing to host this one is merrily welcome.

Yes, subjectivity is indeed a problem.
I think this reviewer is to merit that he actually sat down to get into the game as he liked the first one.
I think he toned the score down from his personal feeling towards how the average strategy gamer might evaluate it.
-
Just read the online article of Germany's largest gaming mag, PC Games. Verdict: 73%. The reviewer admits that he enjoys the game (as he did the predecessor), and that he will be coming back to this one. He thinks, though, that most strategy gamers will not notice these details and will instead miss campaigns, a more intuitive interface or game help.
Basically, he says it's a great game with a presentation not up to date anymore, and that the depth of the game will mostly be appreciated by hardcore strategy gamer, not the "average" strategy gamer.
The score breakdown:
Graphics: 56%
Sound: 72%
Controls: 69%
Atmosphere: 11% (WTF??)
Game Design: 65%
Multiplayer: 79%

The last title sounds familiar. I think I read about that movie some time back in a TV listing here in Germany.
CMBB Vista upgrade
in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Posted
I have a question if I may.
CMBB 1.03 (and CMBO) run fine on my quad core Vista 64 system with nVidia GTX285 w/1 GB in 1600x1200; haven't tried CMAK yet on this configuration.
How - if at all - would the patch benefit me?
Thanks in advance for answering!
