  1. Win XP SP2 with multi-core patch

    Intel Core2Duo 6600

    2 gigs of Aeneon DDR2-800

    BFG Nvidia 8800 GTS 320mb

    Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS

Never had problems with other games since setting up this rig 10 weeks ago, except CM. I just loaded a "naked" Windows with just the Nvidia drivers using Msconfig. No luck either, fps are around 20 and on the "Allahs Fist" Battle its even worse when I point the camera from my starting loc to the destination zone.

  2. Ok I know this is a stupid question because I neither have a picture of it nor any other background.

In many tv documentations about the Soviet assault on Berlin some historical movie material about the fighting is shown. In one of these outtakes I saw a Soviet vehicle which basically looked like a large calibre howitzer on tracks, which was used in a direct fire role.

Now has anyone an idea what this support weapon was, if it was ever meant for mass production or was a front conversion ??

  3. From my experience flak works best in batteries, use 2 at least placed closely together so they get the same field of fire.

The hostile planes also seem to go after your best flak first...usually in this order 8.8, 37mm, quad 20mm, 20mm.

In a test scenario my 2 quad 20mm got 5 air kills, the 37 mm and 8.8 pairs only got 1 for each pair. They also got knocked out very early.

2 quad 20mm can usually shoot down an Il-2 before it gets into firing range.

All tests done with regualr units.

  4. I completed my test on Russian heavy mg´s. Setting up a clear strech of open ground with a German regular company 350 meters away from the trench in which 2 Russian 12.7 mm Mg´s lie.

I did 3 test runs, with maximum ammo for the mgs. All 3 runs roughly brought the same results, around round 8 the mgs always run out of ammo after which the Germans take the trench, but with losses of minimum 40% and maximum around 58 % of their total manpower.

All in all one should stick to the Maxim mg which is usually cheaper and brings the same performance.

  5. Hmm...there´s a similar problem in Hornissen Nest. I changed the initial scenario by exchanging Hornissen with Ferdinands. I took out one of their T-34´s at a range of around 1800 meters. After that the Russians became very reluctant to leave their covered positions. In the original setup this problem doesen´t exist, however I´m a bit unhappy with the Hornissen´s performance, in a hull down position and 1800 meters away from the enemy they still die very easily.

But I think this behaviour is quite realistic, I mean would you drive your tank out in the open knowing that a vehicle, which you have no chance of destroying at this range is just waing for you to come out.

  6. It´s real hard to find any useful info on canister rounds, probably bacause many would consider this an "ugly" weapon. The US army ceased to use it as a tank round after Vietnam, but there it was VERY effective against human wave assaults.

In CMBB only few vehicles got it, on German side the PzIIIN, PzIVD + F version and on Soviet side all T-34 models with the 76.2 mm maingun, maybe some more, I´m not going to check every vehicle in the game now.

  7. From what I know they are rather small, like small calibre shells. Probably not more than 4 mm in diameter, its the sheer number which creates the devastating effect.

So just imagine you take your T-34 out for duck hunting, after firing a canister in a swarm of ducks you wouldn´t find much more than a few feathers, not much left to make dinner out of.

I will try to dig up some more technical stuff about this matter.
