Pecker? I know, I know, but someone had to do itOriginally posted by Hans:If a rocket launcher is called a 'stalin's organ' what would a T-26 be? Stalin's ?????

Dunno, what year is this? Because for the first two years of the war it might reflect soviet replacement policy, which was the equivalent of giving a blood transufusion to a patient bleeding from several major arteries (not surprising, considering said patient had lost an arm and a leg and there wasn't a band-aid in sight).Originally posted by James Crowley:The first surprise was that there was nothing other than conscripts, i.e. no 10% greens.
Is this because you can't have up's without downs and there's obviously nothing below conscript?
They just raised new formations en bloc, and only in 1943 did they stop concentrating on raising ever more new formations and concentrate on maintaining those units they had.

Just imagine.. if you could only fire the 88 while limbered.. that would make the shoot&scoot command doubly usefull!
>Lost?
Yeah those 88s kept flanking my tanks.
> What about your infantry?
Tried fixing them with infantry. But he would just unlimber the gun somehwere to get a good field of fire and relimber before my mortars could hit it.

Camouflage, everyone just loves camouflage, me too

Some T-34 model 1942s:
The difference between the m41 and m42 is very small (and gradual), but you shouldn't underestimate the importance of simplified tow-hooks

Why would I want to offend russian soldiers :confused:Originally posted by Mindfighter:Do you know that for sure or you just want to offend russian soldiers?
Anyway I'm sure, there are several photographs of this tank.

It took more than an hour, bit it did end up on page three, so *bump*Originally posted by MrNoobie:better get em since theres no mod forum i expect this post to end up on page three in the next hour

The SU-100 was accepted for service in mid-44, but because of problems with the gun actual production* didn't start until december 1944 and the first vehicles arrived at the front begin 1945
* Actually they produced them with 85mm guns up to that time.

The spelling on Franseco's site is the one seen on an actual tank, blame the russian soldiers for misspelling it.Originally posted by Mindfighter:This is really peculiar 8 mistakes in a 4-letter word (not a single letter out of 8 matches correct 4 letters): That "Shchortz" word is suppose to be "Щёрс"

Good to hear thatOriginally posted by TheBigCheese:This has all been extremely helpful

Besides these rockets don't have very good penetration values, the warhead is just HE (I doubt can penetrate 25mm of armour and explode inside)Originally posted by panzerwerfer42:Wrong. No Typhoons were operating in the area that day. If it had been hit by a rocket the storage bin on the turret would've been mangled, which photos show it clearly is not.
That seems pretty final to me, especially since this can be confirmed from allied sources.Read the link I provided earlier. It has an eye-witness account from by SS-Haupsturmfuhrer Hoflinger about exactly how Wittman and the other tanks were killed. -

It would be helpfull if these slogans were, roughly, ordered by period too. Things like "For Soviet Estonia" were more typical of late-war slogans.
Here's my stab at it:
Typical Early War:
Slogans that call for love of the motherland or the destruction of the enemy).
"Za Rodina" - "For the Motherland"
"Za Stalina!" - "For Stalin"
"Mat{b} - Rodina" - "Motherland" (the "b" is not a pronounced letter)
"Smert Fascistam" - "Death to the Fascist"
"Smert Nemetzkim Okkupantam" - "Death to the german occupiers"
"BEI fascistsku gradinu" - "Crush the fascist vipers"
"Besposhadni" - "Meciless"
"Istribitel" - "Destroyer"
Typical mid-war:
Names of people, dedications, and more downtoned slogans.
"Suvorov"
"Vpered" - "Forward"
"Latvian Sterlinets" - "Latvian Rifles (meaning soldiers I think)"
"Khabarovski Komsomolets" - "Communist youth organisation of Khabarov" (who probably colleted the funds for the tank(s)
Typical Late War
Geo-politically motivated slogans, references to the coming victory.
"Za Sovetsku Estonio/Moldavia/..." - For a soviet Estonia, Moldavia, etc" basically whtever was to be 'liberated', including those countries that didn't want to be liberated.
"Kavkaz - Berlin" - "from the Caucasus to Berlin"
"Na Berlin" - "To Berlin"
Of course references (to Stalin, communism, historical heroes, victory and Forward!) were never out of style.

Some of the AFVs in the game are currently represented by the wrong/generic models, because of space issues (and because putting a new model in the game apparently takes 12 hours of coding, not including making the actual model  ).
The upcoming patch will fix a lot of these issues:
Quoted from the 1.01 patch list in this threadMODELS:* New vehicle models: BT-5 M1933, BT-5A, BT-7 M1937, BT-7M, BT-7A, T-70 M1943, Toldi II, Zrinyi, TACAM R-2, Brummbaer (mid and late), Pz IVG (mid and late), Pz IVH, Pz IVJ, Pz M15/42 738(i), Semovente L40 da 47/32, Csaba, Nimrod, Ansaldo CV-35, R-35, R-1 Tankette.
* Updated Textures for all above models plus Sherman (75 and 76mm), SdKfz 222 and all the Pz-IV's from the F2 to the J model.
* Lowered crewman in Nimrod.
* Small fix to 76mm Sherman.

Now that is a certain way to start a grog war!Originally posted by Panzer76:Short answer, nobody knows for SURE.
AFAIK the only "witness" who "confirmed" the airstrike theory was a French farmer who wasn't around when it happened

Killed by a Sherman... well Firefly, but still a Sherman of sorts. The gunner was a rookie who only ever gunned in 1 engagement in the war, and he bags the most famous Panzer Ace! (beginners luck I s'ppose).Originally posted by PaulS:How exactly Wittman died ?
from aircraft , mine , AT gun

The guards emblem wasn't very common weren't very common on but it did happen (before the war the heavies were considered elite by themselves and during the war they were sent to seperate brigades only a few of which made achieved Guards status).Originally posted by MrNoobie:i'll add the guard emblem on the revised T34's and from what fox tells me the KV's used a basic 3 digit number for the guards
But I know the 5th Guards Heavy Tank Brigade had a guards emblem (actually they had the guards emblem on one side of the turret, and a normal 3-digit tactical marking on the other.. but I guess that's not possible in CM).
You may be thinking of the star&flag on the "Stalinets" T-34, but that is actually not the Guards emblem it is the 'order of the Red Banner'.EDIT: thnx for the pic i found a clearer pic earlier i just didnt know that it was the guards emblem.Visually there isn't much difference except that the flag is mirrored (the red banner waves left-right, whereas the guards emblem has the pole on the right).

Ok, I will put them at foxbat.topcities.com ASAP (that is, when I get a connection  )Originally posted by MrNoobie:im currently revising the T34's these are great, but i think you should put up a website with these foxbat, im constantly scrolling back up cuz i didnt notice that you edited some of your earlier posts
Btw: I just noticed the winter version of "Stalinets". Whitewashed tank with the same markings as in summer except the number is in black and the lettering in red.

Slightly different approach: turret sides.
I hope this is recognisable as a T-34 turret The idea is that this gives a better impression of where markings are on the turret.
T-34 mod 41, autumn 1941.
The slogan (Pobeda) means Victory.
T-34 mod 41, March 1942.
116th Tank Brigade. second company (ie the medium tank company). The same insignia as the KV's except the company number is different, and there are no slogans/names on the turret sides.
T-34 mod 41, Summer 1942.
One of the tanks with the white Air ID stripe pictured above, this is also the tank that is the model for one of those cheap 1:76 kits (Matchbox?)

Cold war myth.Originally posted by Sgt. Steiner:Yes they did. In fact, the Germans designed the Panzerschreck from captured Russian Lend-Lease bazookas.

If they'd go anywhere they'd have to disconnect their wires putting them effectively out of action.. hence they can't hop on trucks.
Question to Modders: Are the stock .bmps too good to mod?
in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Posted
The stock models are great, but you shouldn't underestimate the effect of a patch of rust and some mud (and maybe a flag discreetly draped over the engine deck). I find that it just gives much more 'feel' then the original 'we wash them before going into battle' look
And let's not forget the CMMOS/Schweinestall/Pig Pen-project
