  1. Happened this morning. I was advancing a platoon of Tigers across fairly open terrain. I remember thinking: I really ought to spread these vehicles out a little more in case of an air attack...

Sure enough, Russian bombers appeared and scored a direct hit. Two Tigers were knocked out, the other two suffered gun damage...

    Scratch one Tiger platoon.

'Bogging' includes anything that could mess with the operation of the running gear while traveling acrosss rough country, not just getting stuck in the mud. These all-inclusive definitions take a small bit of the sting out of all the bogging and gun hits that occur. Though I also 'feel' that gun hits are too high I don't know how the game models what part of the tanks gets hit when.

Perhaps more testing will cause me to change my mind, but for now I believe "gun hits" and bogging are just about right.

The battlefield.ru site has several memories from russian gunners and all of them indicate that the gun is pretty much immediately spotted when it begins firing. The textbook I have (espacially those of Kursk) are along the same lines. CMBB felt better than CMBO for me in that regard.[/QB]

Hmmm, I have trouble squaring the above with the comments of Wittmann (and others) who considered knocking out an ATG as being equivalent to knocking out two AFVs (because, in his view, ATGs were a deadlier opponent due to their difficulty to spot)...

I have thought in the past that ATGs were too easy to spot in CMBB. But I haven't played v1.03b enough to see if this is still a problem.

I'm using v1.03b in the scenarios I have designed. I haven't had any problems with it. Though I have not attempted to set up specific tests of the HE/LOS issue, I haven't noticed it being a problem in the scenarios I have played.

Just call me the Matt Drudge of the CMBB forum. This is the second rumor in a row that I've posted that turned out to be correct. Now that I'm on such a hot streak, I'm thinking about posting this one next:

"RUMOR -- BFC ONLY KIDDING ABOUT NEW ENGINE TAKING TWO YEARS! WILL ACTUALLY BE RELEASED IN EARLY JULY 2003!!!"

A well-known bug which is hopefully being corrected in version 1.03.

I just tried out the test scenario from the "Un-hittable Gun" Game bug thread posted by Industrializer.

    http://mitglied.lycos.de/berger50/TEST%20gun.cme

With 1.02, all the stugs get wiped out without ever hitting the gun. With 1.03, the gun is supressed in the first couple of shots, and consistently destroyed in about 15-20 seconds.

That sounds like a definite improvement.

Ah, I wish that were so. In my test scenario, however, the AT gun wipes out the platoon of Panzers over and over while the tanks crater the front of the hill. There's never a direct hit on the gun. At least with 1.02 & 1.03b.

    Not with 1.01, however.

    It's still Fubar. </font>

The most notable SS Divisions -- LAH, Das Reich, Totenkopf, Hohenstaufen, Wiking, and Hitler Jugend -- were sent to spearhead the offensive in Hungary in the first part of 1945. At the end of the war, most of them were in Austria.

Now i know the Hitler youth did but what part of the german army woulf they be under? eg, SS, motersied...etc

Ironically, two of the main forces which fought in the Battle for Berlin were the 11th SS Nordland Division (consisting mainly of Norwegians and Swedes) and remnants of the 33rd SS Charlemagne Division (which consisted of French soldiers!) ...

A few King Tigers of the 503rd SS Heavy Panzer Battalion were also there.

I had a 1.0 executable. When I patched CMBB I made a copy of 1.o first and saved it. All I had to do is to copy the 1.02 exe somewhere and copy the 1.0 .exe back and patch it with 1.01 version. I think if you don't have 1.0 executable you will need to reinstall the game. But in my opinion it is really worth it to return to 1.01 (because of this gun bug).

    Thanks for the info.
