  1. Thanks Biltong and all who have worked on these rules!

I played my first battle today using them, and it was refreshing to "care" about my battle group's units smile.gif

I'm not sure if you have a specific thread where people can ask basic questions about the rules - but I have one.

Regarding Attached Units - After earning enough points to buy 3 attached units, do you simply continue to upgrade the units with all of the additional "attached unit" points that you will receive as the battles go by?

Are the points cumulative for the entire length of the campaign?

If that is the case, then it seems like you could end up with the most high-powered arty spotter or tank as part of your permanent battle group within the span of a few battles.

    Thanks in advance!

  2. I assume you are referring to attack or ME quick battles, where it is necessary to advance you forces on the map.

I always place my platoons in formation and position them on the map according to their missions. Any medium or heavy infantry weapons teams are placed as far forward in the set up zone as possible (usually in front of the platoons that they will support), to reduce the distance that they will need to cover to reach their initial objectives.

Always make sure that your units starting positions are out of LOS of the enemy's side of the map.

I usually try to purchase vehicles that will be able to tow any guns - as a map with no favorable locations for your guns in the set up zone can ruin the chance for your guns to be effective if they have to take 10 turns just to get into a forward position.

When placing armor, I always try and give my units a starting position which will allow them to advance forward with as much cover as possible. It is essential to keep your armored force a "mystery" to your opponent as long as possible - only exposing tanks when you absolutely need them to help your mission.

As for artillary spotters, it's easy to fall into the habit of placing them on a spot of the map which gives them the best LOS and leave them there. Be careful - good opponents will predict the likely hiding spots for you spotters and they will lay down HE fire or their own arty in the hope that your spotter is hiding there. Few things are more disappointing than to see your 200+ pnt spotter routed by turn 3!

Of course, I always break my own rules if the situation calls for it, but IMO it's beneficial to create good set-up habits and organize your forces ahead of time based on your plan.

    cheers

  3. Hi grogs,

I just wanted to see if anyone else has realized how deadly the Russian M17 halftrack is.

I just played a quick battle with a friend, and was shocked when his two M17's took out my Marder and routed a total of almost two platoons - who were not running out in the open, but were crouching in the woods!

I would imagine that many players have never stopped to notice that the M17 has a four .50 caliber machine guns mounted on a turrent.

    They are nasty...

  4. If Apple stops shipping OS9 before Quark Express for OS X is released, they will alienate the largest group of mac users - graphic designers!

I'm actually losing patience with Quark. They just released Quark 5 a few months back and they have given no hints as to when they will be OS X compatible. Quark and CM are the only two remaining applications that have kept me using OS 9.

I'm perfectly willing to do whatever it takes to play CM, but I may switch to Adobe's InDesign if Quark doesn't get their act together.

  5. The company that you are referring to, 21st Century Toys , makes some great stuff. I have been collecting the 32X series. The detail is superb, and the price for the tanks & vehicles is less than a comparable kit that comes unassembled and unpainted. (Some 16 year -old in China does all the hard work so you don't have too!)

Perhaps I will have to try and spring the 1:16 scale Tiger on my wife by having it mysteriously show up on my computer desk tongue.gif;)
