I know this will sound little stupid-but can i actualy give order to entire company at once? I mean not to drag square around all the units but with selecting company leader. Or even order entire batalion at once by selecting batalion leader? What am I missing here?

Wow, it's been a while since I posted on that forum. Anyway, I decided to play BB again and I am having a little problems whit all those huge maps, where you get tons of armor and hundreds of infantry units. In fact, I don't know where to start that kind of mission... enemy is fiering from everywhere, arty shels are bouncing of tanks and when I'm abouth to switch from turn 16 to 17, my forces are so mixed up, that inf. is conected only with black lines and it is 50% understrenght. My support units are crowling far behind my main force since they are so slow... SO-any tips how to play those huge maps. I would also apreciated(?) some links where I could get some replays of such a massive battle (I mean Human vs. AI) looking forward to read your answers and I hope you understand the point of that message since my english is disastrous...

What was the difference betwen german LMG Team (2 soldiers, MG34) and HMG team(6 soldiers, MG34) except the number of soldiers? Were those 5 guys only reserves? Why am I having a feeling that russian tanks are much more weaker than german ones? ISU 152 gets destroyed in no-time by any tank better than Pz III, and that famous T34 is allmost uselles. Even with veteran crew. On A mission "I don't remember the name right now" 3 Tigers destroyed 10 of my ISU 152 from abouth 1000 meters-and me and the enemy were both on open terrain. When one of ma tanks finally hits the target I see only 'shell broke up' or 'partial penetration-no serious damage'... Has anyone played mission Katukov strikes back as russian? If yes-were those flaks 88 really so effective against tank? I always thought that they were supossed to destroy air targets. I lost all of the tanks while I had tried to cross that damn field. And I am playing Combat Mission quite a long time. That'll be all for now, if you find some time, please answer me!

I am using 'withdraw' quite often, especialy when my infantry comes under tanks fire and there is some cover nearby.

If sherman is defending (attacking) against german PzIV or V, it will probably loose. At least at head to head fight. 4 of my shermans were destroyed like that, 2 of them with first shot. All of them only by one PzIV. When shermans grenades hit the Panzer, only "no serious damage message" message appears. But than a bazooka team with only one team meamber allive destroyed that tank-side shot.

Playing agains AI, scenarios. I mean, I made an experiment, most of the mission I was just pressing the go button, excepct while placing the riaforcement. I don't remember the name of scenario right now, but I'll check it.Oh, BTW, I won on that scenario (allied tactical victory)

Is it even possible to loose the battle on scenarios where allies are defending themself? I mean I was playing several missions like defend the Wiltz, and I didn't have any difficulties winning them. So what do you say?

I finally finished tutorial mission, I was playing as allied-total victory, only 11 casualties. That's quite good, isn't it? I was very close to finishing another mission-I dont't remember it's name right now-the goal is to push through the forest, filled with enemy soldiers. And in that mission, you can't do much without smoke and artilery fire, and you have only 10 turns, so you must be quite fast. Those bastards kicked my ass out there becouse only one stupid move, I moved one platoon too fast into enemy LOS and BOOOOOOOOOOM. Great game, can't wait the russian front.

Huh......looks like things are/were very different than I thought.....thank for the explanations. Oh....I am progresing with tutorial mission too, I would beat the enemy (with germans or Americans)if there would be only 3 more turns more. My tanks are now staying behind, while my bazookas or panzerschrenk teams are triing to sneak as close as possible to enemy tanks, one on the left flank, the other on the right, others squads are distracting enemy infantry meanawhile. When enemy tanks are burning, primary goal of my troops is to eliminate emnemy AT infantry, and after that-my tanks rushes in. I keep all platoons near the platoon HQ, of course, it seems that they really are more effective. Only 3 more turns!

Well, actualy I am not so unfamiliar with military tactics. What really bothers me is delay beetwen giving an order and executing it. I know it's the same way for the enemy, but you need time to get used of it. And when we are talking about military tactics during ww2-I bellive you all know blitzkrieg. In that kind of assault, tanks were leading the assault, arty, and luftwaffe were just support, but the main goal of infantry was to sorround the enemy. Tanks were there just to break through the enemy defensive perimeters, their main objective was to make caos beetwen enemy soldiers. They concentrated on one single spot, in many cases wide only as one road -where the defense was weakest. But in CM, the tanks should stay back. Well, I rather won't say anything more, it's wery possible that I'm wrong, maybe blitzkrieg became useless after normandy. Thanks for the replys, I'll check upper links too.

Damn, I always thought that I knov pretty much about strategies, they are my favorite genre. BUt than, I started to play combat mission. 'God dammit', I can't even finish the tutorial mission!!!! My tanks are destroyed in notime, enemy infantry kils mine from 300m away, bu my men doesen't even shoot back (OK, I am overreacting, they respond, naturaly, but they don't do ANY damage, maybe they kills one enemy soldier, but my forces are pinned by that). So, tell me, where to strart, HOW to start, whats the key to success? Tnx for all the answers. P.S.: My English is quite poor, i hope you understand me.
