  1. I have played few scenarios with aircraft, but in one of those I took out a jabo with either an ostwind or a whirlwind, the former I think. Let me say, it was immensely satisfying. There's a nice explosion and bye bye birdie. I agree that quad flaks are definitely going to be more effective than a single gun.
  2. Thanks. But I already tried that and, as Chris notes, for some reason my version of Excel can't read his spreadsheets. I'm using Windows 2000. @#$% Microsoft. Can anyone post them as a text file?
  3. Can anyone point me a list of delay times for various calibers/types of artillery, for both allies and axis? I'm sure something like this has been posted before (probably often) on the boards. Thanks.
  4. <For Gpig> a clarification. In the above example, it was my Stuart that got nailed and my 76Sherman that nailed the Panthers. I love Stus for their mobility, price, and virtually unlimited ammo. Stuarts alone are vulnerable, but they complement an armored force excellently.
  5. I just had a sacrificial Stuart play decoy. He conducted a flanking maneuver around the side of a hill which distracted two Panthers. These turned and advanced to the crest to meet po' li'l Stu, and KOed him as he frantically backpedaled. That same turn, tho, they both died from rear turret hits by a 76mm sherman who popped up 600 meters away behind a rise--BAM! BAM! Good job STU!
  6. Can you post the map? Need to see terrain (elevations and available cover), and need to know what the defending force is like. If I had armor/vehicles, I might focus on one spot-probably a bridge, smoke it, lay suppressive artillery MG fire nearby, and rush across. Establish a beachhead, and then widen.
  7. Thanks for all the helpful posts. In my experience, rifle grenades have indeed been useful against half-tracks and lightly armored vehicles such as Pumas, at ranges of <50 meters. But against heavy armor, all they have accomplished has been to draw the attention of the tank to my hapless squad. Against, infantry I've never seen rifle grenades used. I assume that gammon bombs work something like satchel charges, tho perhaps less powerfully. I once saw an enemy engineer squad lob a couple of those--2 at once actually--from a distance of 15 meters at my rifle squad, with unfortunate results. Half my 12-man squads lost limbs and various other body parts. This had predictable results on the morale of the survivors.
  8. Well, I appreciate all the responses. I agree, Jason, that we do have a somewhat unrealistic level of control in certain aspects of artillery fire. On the hand, we can't do something as simple and basic as a rolling barrage, especially from a point within LOS to an *adjacent* point outside LOS. So I wouldn't say that I am trying to have my cake and eat it too. Thanks for all the good points.
  9. Is there any way now, and/or will there be any way in the future, to order an FO to fire only a portion of his ammo on a target or over the course of a turn? As FOs get more experience, they tend to correct targetting more quickly, and therefore use ammo faster. It would be nice to be able to set expenditure limits. In the same vein, I've noticed that the pause command doesn't work with FOs for firing. Any ideas why this is? It would be nice to be able to ask the FO to hold off 15 seconds etc. before letting loose, so as to give one's forces some time to move in/out of an area. But I find that, once the "countdown" is complete, it's bombs away or cancel the order and start the countdown over. Kinda silly, no?
  10. Among allied infantry formations I particularly like US Glider infantry companies, partly because each of the 4! platoons gets a .50cal MG instead of the .30cal,and because the squads have a lot of rifle grenades and gammon bombs. My question is, when do infantry use these weapons, and against what sort of targets? In my CMBO experience, rifle grenades are useless against tanks, especially anything well-armored like a Panther, even at close ranges. (This was confirmed for me by a former 101st airborne paratrooper family friend who dropped on D-Day. He said, when tanks showed up, they pretty much waited for a zook to take it out.) What about gammon-bombs? Will these take out tanks? And when do soldiers use either of these weapons against other infantry, and with what kind of results?
  11. I would definitely buy a Mac version. And I know several others who would as well.
  12. Count me in. My friend and i will test it out. thorskov@yahoo.com
