For a detailed account of how a Sherman can knock out a Tiger, see my web page:

A more detailed account appears in an article I wrote for After the Battle magazine (Issue 114).

  2. If I'm not mistaken (and if I am it WILL be pointed out), you can download mods or a patch that will Nazi-fy the Waffengrenadiers etc. If you do a search through this thread, it has been a topic that has been talked about quite a bit. Good luck, try using some of the mods that the talented members of this forum have created for almost every aspect of the game (including anti-armor fishing). Throws a whole new look on your game.

  3. If I may digress back to the original topic.

"The Forgotten Soldier" By: Guy Sajer, would be a great book for you to check with GoofyStance. Although I don't remember specifically if he refers to platoon leaders using AT weapons, he does describe "delaying and fire brigade actions" that he was involved in. Ironically, I can't check this myself as my copy was loaned to and never returned by MY platoon leader.

  4. From personal experience shoulder firing AT4 and vehicle firing TOW missles, I can say without a doubt that they can do all of this and more. Even inside of a Bradley fighting vehicle firing these weapons isn't pleasent. Backblast is a serious safety issue and checking the BB is second only to finding a target. When the rocket launches, it sucks all the air (including the air in your lungs) out of the immediate area. Even wearing earplugs AND mouse ears, my head rang for about an hour afterwards. While the weapons I have used are relatively modern, the Panzerfaust/schrek would be pretty similar in effect.

  5. Well, historically if a delaying action were required, a commander would choose a squad or platoon that he was sure would be reliable. If for example, you have a platoon of SS soldiers who were groomed from the Hitler youth, or Soldiers and Marines who fought on either side in the Island Hopping campaign. If a squad or two (only) were to be randomly fanatic, it really wouldn't impact games above the company level. If they "improperly" were used on a suicide charge, they would be mowed down and so much for the big advantage. I would say that there are plenty of historical examples of squads fighting to the last man to buy time, or to break the first hole in enemy lines. Give them a wicked rarity penalty for purchase and they will probably be bought as rarely as they existed. Micheal makes a great point about the FOW not really having an impact on the game, I think this would be about the same. Just my two centavos.

  6. Well, after months of deliberation over whether I should buy the Japanese version of CMAK(for an ungodly overpriced amount of money)and figure it out (very slowly) with a kanji dictionary, or if I should beg someone to send it to me (somehow I picked up the notion that they wouldn't ship to countries where they sold retail). I finally decided to beg to the source, so I emailed BFC. Matt himself climed down from on high and said "sure you can order it". FIVE days later I am holding my copy in my hands! If only my boss could be this wonderful......sigh!

  9. I'm not surprised! :D I want to also point out that while the series has had some refinements to the engine and some brilliant mods brought in by the community, this is a game that is four years old and still holding the heavyweight belt. Think about what game engines/graphics were the hot ticket in '99 compared with today, and CM is still knocking them outa the ring. I consider that the real evidence of vision, talent, and genius.

    Thanks and Congrats BFC! ;)

    Speaking of squad automatic weapons:

what did the U.S. infantry use between the BAR and the modern 5.56mm SAW? Did they ever carry a 7.62 MG around in rifle squads?

Yes, they used the M-60 7.62mm MG. Still in use. </font>

Jonny Blademan <---- Sniffs for that "new squire smell" but as I'm challenged and easily distracted, I'll pull up my favorite lawn chair open some Boone's Farm to celebrate the mud slingin instead. All the while avoiding tobacco juice, spittle, pus and cheery waffles, as none of them go with a high quality drink such as mine.
