  1. Watchdog, you are a troll. You're from southern Florida aren't you? You're one of those people who can't fill out a voting ballot because it's "too complex and doesn't line up right" aren't you?

This forum, as you can see for yourself, is *full* of people who have, somehow, managed to fill out that same order form properly and gotten their copy of the game. Based on that information alone, basic logic should dictate that any problems *you* are having doing the same are at *your* end, not at BFC. Think, man, think.

In this game anyway. I've played other strategic wargames where the French stopped the German invasion in its tracks (albeit with heavy French/British losses).

I would say that those other games aren't giving you a terribly realistic view of what was possible at the time, then. France's problems (and Britain's problems in France during the German invasion) started in the 1920's and 1930's. The problem was this: organization. The French (and British) decided early on that the tank would be purely an infanrty support weapon. They dispersed them evenly through the ranks of their armies. The Germans, on the other hand, developed formations in which everything (infantry, artillery, command, supply) could match the breakneck pace set by the tanks. The French could have put in better leaders in a timely fashion, but to develop the "Dragonne" concept fully enough to fight the panzer divisions on an even footing, they would have had to start restructuring their army in a time-frame that is well beyond the scope of this game.

But what about at the end of the game? There is no reason not to be able to see it on the Reports screen. I think it would be nice if FOW turned itself off at that point and let you look around the map and see the final situation.

I'll have to double check, but I believe the game does do this as specified, or at least something close to that.

The FOW does turn off at the end of the game, allowing you to see enemy units, but it does not allow you to see their tech levels. I would like to be able to see these, as well. If you can work it into a patch without too much trouble, that would be great, but it's not real important.
  4. Panzerblitz - now your talking!

It used to sound like WW2 when me and my brother sat down for a game - apparently being one year younger meant I could never be correct in Line od Sight decisions!!

And Panzer Leader! (except my older brother was always scrupulously fair on LOS/LOF rulings)

jmbunnelle: Excellent work! Please send me a copy at daigrer@bellsouth.net or post them on Otto's website, he'll love these.

  5. Russia: The Pripet Marshes (75% of the time), the Baltic coast just E of Riga and NW of the forest (near the marsh), the marshy area just NE of Odessa and W of the Dnieper River. So, I'd say yr best bet is to keep an eye on the swamps, as they seem to be full of web-footed Bolshiviks.
You absolutely *must*, however, ensure that you occupy any cities you capture. In one turn, I had partisans crop up directly on both Riga and Leningrad.
  6. I am a college student (but not during the summer) I have full tuition exemption because I'm in the LA National Guard, and I'm living off of my active-duty G.I. Bill. I really should be working this summer, but I didn't need the money, so I said "To hell with it!". It drives my girlfriend crazy, but I do a lot of housework and I pay my half of the bills, so she can't really complain

  7. Anyone who thinks that the success of Overlord was a forgone conclusion should visit the National D-Day Museum in New Orleans, Louisiana. One of the displays there is an apology, written on June 5, 1944. This apology takes full responsibility for the failure of the Overlord invasion and the attendant loss of lives and war material. The author of this apology was Gen. Dwight David Eisenhower.

  8. BTW I played a demo game where I took Moscow, and the Russian capital moved to the Urals. I then took the Urals capital city, but it took me a few turns to do so (at least three turns, I don't remeber exactly how long). The Russians then moved their capital again, This time to Stalingrad. So be sure that you can take Moscow and the Urals in quick succession, or you may be SOL.
