Can somebody tell me why I love 1C again??? Any hint from anyone?? ;)

Waiting anxiously for more info about the AI improvements in the add on...

That is my prefered play style too.... if the AI would not stop me a bit too often from doing so. And I think it hints directly to Spartans criticism (and also to my criticism) about the AI.

I would prefer if the friendly AI will be reworked for the add-on in a way that leaves it to the player to micromanage ones own troops or to not do so.

It can be a bit annoying when ordering whole squads in groups around - only to find out after a few minutes that the soldier carrying the LMG ammunition

    - is at the other end of the squad than the LMG

    - lies dead 50 metres behind the LMG

    - has nobody to hand the ammunition to because the guy with the LMG lies dead 50m behind the soldier with the ammunition

I hope that example shows the possible field of AI improvement for me (just keep ammunition carrier and LMG together and if one dies make somebody else pick up the equipement - and I can imagine that it is not that trivial to always pick the right soldier to jump into position here). It is all about the friendly AI and to avoid to much micromanagement. As yo have pointed out Elvis, it is fun here and there to enjoy some kind of micromanagement (e.g. hand grenade, targeting special targets like officers....), but if you have to do it to keep your squads working even on the most basic level.... it is a bit tiresome.

Nevertheless, I am enjoying the game as it is right now - I just have to adjust my playing style a little bit more than I wished for.

  3. Thanks Sneaksie and Jochem....and everybody else who came here to help.

It was the blue player icons mod from rofl  Where is the b...... ;) I had only installed it via a direct copy of the path data/gui/ingame/main.tga into the ToW directory instead of using Dr. Jones extracting tool. It worked at the time but screwed the LoS tool of the 'Uber' patch. I just had to delete the above mentined path from my ToW directory and everything works perfect.

I do not know if it would have happened too if I had used Dr. Jones tool to install this mod - maybe somebody else can confirm that.

So for me it was not JSH1.0.

    Thanks again everybody!!

  4. The blue icons come from a mod that displays historical correct German flags in the game - But Jochem stated before that he patched over a freshly installed ToW and had the same problem.

Jmayer - the missing LoS tool is with attack, area fire and with assault..... with each we do not see the LoS tool :(

There you are porbably stretching it a bit much.

I guess we all know that ToW touches a field that has not been touched before - this detailed a battlefield simulator.

Some people like it - others do not like it for various reasons. For some it is too much micro management and not enough overview - for others it is not enough "first person action" going on. But this is just a question of preference. That got nothing to do with intelligence or with the game being "crap" as our Australian (assumed) friend worded it.

Everybody could have tried the demo before purchase - if they did not do it.... maybe than your statement with missing intelligence is not so far off.

  6. No, I do not see it during game play. Tried it with different battles, campaigns, different units, attack (with trying the 3 different target areas), assault, area fire, played through a whole battle - nothing.....

Just the cursor with the crosshairs changing its colour (red to grey for LoS and no LoS), but no arrow, line or something similar pointing from my selected unit to the cursor.

    Can I check something else???

    Uwe

  7. Jochem, I thought now it could be the problem that I installed the patch over my old system with JSH1.0 and additionally the blue player icons with historical German flag.

But when you say it happens to you too on a freshly installed new system....surreal :(

Green line indicates a clear area with unobstructed line of sight where the flora does not hinder fire; a red line shows an area of good sight without serious (but some) blockage; while a black line indicates places your units can’t see at all....

It is great that it is implemented.......but I do not see it

After upgrading I see the new version no. in the upper right corner, I have the two new campaigns selectable, all the intenet MP I see too - but when setting a unit to attack, area fire or assault I see the cursor with the crosshairs, I see the cursor changing colour from red to grey when I place it at a spot without LoS, but I do not see the LoS-line.

I have tried it with different single battles, even with the new Battle for Normandy, but no avail.

Am I doing something totally stupid here?? Do you have to "activate" the LoS tool somewhere???

  9. 12-15 fps is indeed very strange on minimum details and low setting on your system.

I am running an AMD x2 4600 (no dual core probs here) with an ATI X1950Pro in 1280x960 on max details with 6xAA and 4xAF on Vista32 and I get ~20-30 fps.

Then unfortunately I can not help anymore and maybe Sneaksie can butt in - sorry.

  10. I saw that you are using your X1600 Pro with 512MB at 1680x1050. I would assume that it should be strong enough..... but in the past ToW proofed to be a resource hog. Just as a test I would try to reduce the resolution to e.g. 1280x960 or even 1024x768 (fully knowing that it will look horrible on your big screen).

How is your frame rate then??? Still as low or significantly faster??

  11. Billy Riley, did the FT17 actually shot back still or was moving, reacting or doing something other than sitting there and not being blown up??

I am asking because it is possible that your rounds penetrated the poor French bastard (no offence here ;) ), killed all the crew members and exited the tank on the back side.

Your tank crew just sees hits on the tank, but no clear sign of the destruction of the tank. Maybe you can pick a save game of that scenario, have your Pz38t pound on the FT17 for a few times (with clear hits on the armour of the French tank) and stop shooting then - is the FT17 still acting now, or is it just sitting there??
