  1. I think that after the fall of France the "Free French" units really are handled as British units. If France is liberated, the units obviously stay British. If Hubert would make the game "remember" any Free French units, then he could code it so that those units become French again in case of liberation (I hope he will consider doing this).

There are alot of issues with Vichy, for example that it can not be reunited with France after France is liberated. That they also have problems surrendering to the Allies is a new one, though.

The Spanish took 5 or 6 turns to surrender, all the time bashing away at that one corps, along with a couple of German armies - then they suddenly surrendered - obviously they'd had enough!! :(

So this is actually the original problem reversed: trouble retaking cities, avoiding surrender. :D

Play the game as is, and like it! OR -- just shut up about it? NO SUGGESTIONS ALLOWED!

If that's the case, then you would have to go back and erase half of the posts on this forum, yes?

I have had great fun with this game, more so than with any other I have played in the last several years, and that covers a lot of territory.

I also have made suggestions as to HISTORICAL enhancements.

In fact, several of the suggestions that some have made, have been incorporated into the game by Hubert, such as the Russian Cruiser in the Black Sea.

So, what? Now, we need be determined to protect the VERY FIRST version of the game?

Or, is it the latest, v1.03 that we feel needs a big brother's attention, which also includes some historical additions?

Freaks shall inherit the Earth, O Yea brothers.

Historical freaks included, who are usually interested in having fun AND incorporating any of those aspects a game-designer might eventually elect to add, which will increase the "realistic" feel of the contest.

These are NOT mutually exclusive concepts, are they? smile.gif

Well spoken, Immer. There ought to be Freaks, send in the Freaks! :D

I would love the tanks having the possibility to attack and *then* move (to exploit any holes just punched into the frontline) ... in which case I would even be willing to pay more MPPs for them.

  5. In danger of making everyone yawn: I was always saying that over time SC became more and more adjusted to fit the needs of an Axis human vs Allies AI game. No wonder that playbalance with respect to PBEMs got affected. My advise would be that either the more experienced player takes the Axis, or that the Axis player gets +1 experience by default.

  6. I know we are not supposed to talk about this, but there is one thing I don't understand and really would like to have addressed in the official statement yet to come: it was said that casual piracy accounts for 90% of all cases. Ok, but if this is so, isn't the real pertinent question with respect to potential losses of income for Battlefront/Furysoft then whether those guys casually pirating a game really would instead order it if there is a CD check?

For me, High Command was a big disappointment. Still, those anthems, and the more detailed map which included even Luxemburg, were things I remember with some fondness - and which I would love to see in a SCII. smile.gif

  8. I don't care very much about fancy 3D effects and such, but I still like beauty. E.g. if the city icon in SC would be different for Paris, Rome, London, Berlin and Moscow, this would add to the atmosphere of the game IMO. smile.gif

I did not play CM, but from what I know it is not an RTS game, but turnbased! (Right?) Actually, I find the idea to make *turnbased* 3D tactical games attractive ... it's just that my system is not very powerful, so I won't give it a try soon.

</font><blockquote>quote:</font><hr />And please please please get rid of that completely unnnecessary cd check. What is it for anyway? I run the game on a laptop and the last thing I want to do is carry around the CD. If its to stop people passing around the CD to load onto different computers it will not work as people will just make copies of the CD.

I don't know what the answer to casual piracy is, but it isn't 'the CD must be in the drive to play', thats just annoying.

I agree ... CD-in-drive checks are not preventing piracy, but rather only harass the honest customers. :(

  11. waltero, the beginner level is probably ok when you play the Axis, but if you play the Allies this level is much too easy. (I'd say I have to at least loose France one out of two times to make things interesting, and this only works with +1).

I agree, though, that +2 is no fun.

Well, it *is* something I had a bit of a hard time getting used to. I mean often you blast a hole into the enemies frontline, but then you are not able to exploit it: because you already have attacked you may not move (and you basically also stand in the way of your own units which haven't yet moved). If this would be handled different (at least for the tanks), then the frontlines would be less static.

I guess changing this right now would be a major coding issue. But it's good to hear that it is not forgotten. smile.gif For me this topic really boils down to that - in the current system - we never have to worry about winter like we should when starting campaigns.

Having units stuck OTOH is not a good trade off with respect to getting rid of the problem Compassion reminded us of. It's somehow too much bug-like.

  15. Yup, I agree, too. Somehow, reducing the turn lenght in winter has close to zero effect on actual gameplay and strategic planning. Making all terms equally long and instead reducing action points in winter (especially for tanks) sounds like a good alternative to me.

  17. That's why when I play the Allies I always set the experience for the Axis +1. Even then you may hold on to France, but at least not *always*. If it fails, then it would have been better to have shipped everything to the UK instead - so it's at least a though decision whether one shouldn't do this in the first place.

And I agree, the key is getting a HQ for the French.

Btw this is all based on the gold demo still ...
