Good cripes, man! Zip it, chunk it, UUEncode it, print it out, fax it to me, I'll scan it with OCR, UUDecode it, de-chunk it, unzip it, and install it! How difficult can that be?Originally posted by theDD:thanks..just need a place to put it for download....

Yes, I found it very enjoyable. I've taken a break from it for a while but plan on getting back into it. The gameplay is fun and fast, challenging but not frustrating. It has RPG elements to it, but very minimal. But you certainly don't feel locked into stock characters that they provide you. Big mod community too, with "real" superheroes. I think this game is priced as a bargain game now - definately a steal at that price!Originally posted by Panzer Leader:Hey is that game any fun? It looked interesting, how you get to make your own superhero (I used to play Champions when I was a kid) but I haven't heard much abou it.

Hey yeah, damnit! er, I mean bump.

This sounded like something I'd be interested in until you go to the "no swearing" part.Originally posted by Aussie Smith:Think of it as a group of like minded individuals the world over who you know that when you play a game there is no cheating/swearing etc etc.

Got the Jan PC Gamer yesterday - not only do they review CMBB (90% 1 page review - they call it CM2), but they also give BFC a bunch of free advertising in the letters section with a complete sidebar and a screenshot of Strategic Command. They called BFC and shrapnelgames.com "the two most valuable sites on the Internet" to strategy gamers.
If you're new here because PC Gamer - welcome! There is a thread with "Peng" in the title designed to answer any questions you may have!

Sound Recorder that ships with Windows should do it, unless you're on a Mac of course. Open the file and then go to FILE PROPERTIES and there is a convert option in there. This is on the version that ships with XP but I believe there's been something similar with other versions. It's unwieldly so if you have a lot to do you will want to look someplace else. Cool Edit has a 30 day trial, but I think it's crippled in other ways.Originally posted by illo:I need convert some wav files to 44.100Khz. (So that they would work with CMBB)
Couldn't find any free program to do it.
Can you help?

crap, mine too.

Yeah, but I want unit bases that look nice so I can leave them on. Just because they're unrealistic doesn't mean they have to be in-your-face unrealistic. Round ones, rings, or hex even - something other than the floating painted plywood. Or a bmp that can be modded. Something like this:Originally posted by CMplayer:I realize some people find unit bases ugly, but they can just be turned on for long enough to serve their purpose then turned off again. Quite painless really. Same with the labels.

Anyone know what the "texture sharpening" option does under the anti aliasing page - outside of what the little "?" help icons explains?

... with bump mapping.

I got mine today - about 5 minutes ago in fact. The reason I got mine today and not next week is because BFC shipped mine via USPS and not stinking crappy horrible worst-company-in-existance UPS, who has a hard time delivering air into their lungs. Big Brown indeed, a big brown turd. I wholeheartedly believe in capitalism but if there is one place it failed it would be UPS because they don't do squat correctly yet somehow they manage to stay in exisitance. Unless their business plan is "Screw everything up and never actually deliver anything without the most annoyance possible to the customer" in which case I guess they would be exceptionally successful.
But the book looks pretty good.

I sure did, about 30 seconds after I placed my order.

2400 bps through my Prodigy account. And I read the Battlefront forums using Lynx.

The NVidia chip is the reason why you can't port CM to the X-Box. There isn't an ALT-TAB key so you'd never be able to read any of the text.Originally posted by Dschugaschwili:Releasing a PC game for the X-Box has one major advantage over a release for PS2, GameCube or similar: The X-Box is basically a PC with an Intel processor and a nVidia mainboard and graphics chip inside.

Or maybe they're looking to an outside developer, who will develop CM3 on the original CM engine, while the BFC team is working on the new engine for CM4! Sort of like id software does. And maybe that outside team will be Lucas Arts and it will end up being a wego Star Wars game!!! :eek:Originally posted by Panzer Leader:They are expanding and dividing their resources. One group will immediately begin writing the re-wrtie (CMII) while the other group will CONCURENTLY begin work on CM3 which will be the same engines as CMBB and will cover the Med (Africa)
or maybe not.

DD's tree bases look nice with this fantastic grass. Very stressful decision I have now when playing CMBO - what grass to use?! Kinda like having a harem these days.Originally posted by Alsatian:I liked the grass, loved the grass, but didn't like the way I couldn't tell tree cover from open ground. The grass also slowed down my system too much.

I don't think I've ever seen a flamethrower alive before outside of turn 1. This is like a picture of Big Foot.

KwazyDog certainly has a nice mini-tutorial posted here, but I thought I'd take his techniques and apply them "at the next level." I'll be using Paintshop PRO, since the "PRO" suggests that I'm a profressional, and not Adobe Photoshop since our goal here is to make mods, not pdf files.
First, we'll start with the model that I submitted to BTS which they foolishly rejected as being "far and above the standards which we are looking for." Apparently they did not want me to embarrass the other modelers.
Now, the color needs some work so I adjusted it with some sliders-things under the "colors" menu.
Now, I need to add a little bit of camo:
And a filter to give it a "weathered" look. Of course, I used a meta-merged multiply-vector layer here ... duh:
And here's the final product. Also, a sneak preview of my plaque doodad:

Limited it to PC games - here's my list.
DOOM - The reason I failed out of college. Really.
System Shock, Ultima Underworld I & I - anything by looking glass is instanly a classic. SS honestly gave me nightmares.
Zork - best graphics ever, and I'm sincere about that. No NVidia card can come up with the images I created in my head. I wasted alot of time with Moria & NetHack too.
Rally Trophy Championship - Probably the closest I'll ever come to the real thing.
Half Life - yeah, it's on everyone's list but I loved that game.
The first Wolfenstein - not the original one, the first 3D one.
Sam & Max Hit the Road - funny as hell.
CMBO - wasting my life away. Glad I'm not in college with this one or I'd fail out again.
Wost game ever would be Phantasmagoria. Truly awful.

You made a typo and misspelled "Underworld I & Underworld II" as "III & IV and ELITE."Originally posted by Lindan:Ultima III & IV and ELITE for Atari ST

I have a GF3 and have really noticed the pixelated sky. I was going to toy around with it this weekend - I don't know if it's the original bmp or if something is being down-sampled. Kinda distracting ... I'll try some of the CMBO mod skies to see if they help.Originally posted by Porajkl:I have mipmap detail set to highest level, I also use anisotropic filter, my computer is PC. I don't use AA, but that will not the cause so pixelated sky. Anyone else with the same GFX card and such a sky?

Also go to Combat Mission HQ web site. Follow the articles link on the left side. Christopher Hall's article may be what you're looking for, among many others.

You could get the CMBO Normandy TC mod and try this tile:So can this be modded? I agree that all it really needs is to have the rocks be about 5x larger.Or, there is also this one included in Gunslinger's Subdued mod:
Ordinairly, I'd hesitate to send out someone's mods that are part of a bigger package, but it seems silly to have to download Total Conversions when really you're after just one picture. Having said that, both of those TCs are great and if you don't have them, you really should get them.

My defective strategy guide
in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Posted
I had one of the CMBB Strategy Guides that was missing pages 1/53 -1/85. I did the usual thing - contacted sales@battlefront.com with the pertinent information.
And what do I find in my mail today? My "replacement." In a Fed Ex envelope I found the missing pages 1/52 and 1/85 without the rest of the manual! Also included was a razor blade, a piece of tape 2" x 6" and photocopied instructions on how to cut my existing copy between 1/52 and 1/86, insert the new pages, and then put it all back together with the tape on the spine!
Actually, I got my replacement today with no fuss from BFC - excellent customer service yet again. A public thanks for a job well done.
BFC kind of reminds me id in the pre-Doom days, before they got all huge. I actually talked to Jay Wilber once, and he kick-started my career. But that's a different story. I'm just sayin', this time next year Mad Matt may be making us his bitches, you know?
