  1. I only have experience with cheap Airsoft replicas, in small scale airsoft battles, but I'll pitch in anyway.

The green dot is way more visible than the red in daylight conditions, Although I still prefer the holographic reticle sights, my favorite one being a "T" projection. I usually "lose" the red dot a lot, the green sometimes, and the reticles never. Basically, the red dot is a bit faster than iron sights, the green a whole lot faster, and the reticles are just point and shoots.

And as for video games, I actually dislike how movement slows down when aiming down these kinds of sights. I could actually move pretty fast and still shoot accurately at ranges of 5-20m (anything beyond that and the BB's lose a lot of energy and have to be lobbed in big arcs). From my limited experience using a vanilla M16 (The rifle, not the halftrack), this should hold true for 5.56mm weapons just as long as you know how to shoot properly and you don't shoot full auto. I do understand that they have to do it for game balance, but I could think of some other ways how to make holographic projection sights balanced.

Yeah. I usually do this when bored in class. hehe

  3. I live in the Philippines and airsoft is getting pretty big here. It's mostly an honesty system, although zombies (people who are known to be hit but not admit it) tend to be "accidentally" shot with half a mag's worth of bb's at close range.

~400fps with a 0.2g bb is our current "standard". Pretty good at cqb scenarios and workable in outdoor games. You could basically hit someone hard at any range that wouldn't need magnifying optics when aiming for the head; any farther than that and you have to compensate for gravity and wind -and also hit them several times just to let them realize that they are actually being hit :D . It is sometimes weird though- during one game I just stood in the middle of a clearing, as I could easily see and dodge incoming bb's.

  4. GTAIV on the PC

Stalker: Clear Sky -Hopefully a post apocalyptic GTA3/Morrowind/Deus Ex combination

Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway -Loved the earned in blood, even if it felt like a puzzle game at times

Fallout 3. It's Fallout with the makers of The Elder Scrolls trying to be faithful to the original. Really looking forward to that one.

  5. How about if we could just spend research chits on individual unit capabilities? That would give the player the power to tailor-fit his units to how he likes to use them.

And with this, how bout adding diplomacy to the research part? Something like "hey research people, I want a 30mm gatling gun-armed twin engine CAS aircraft.... and I wanted it yesterday! Give it to me next turn or I'll bite your head off!!"... :D

I'll stay off the sugar now... smile.gif

I'm no grog (or an adult for that matter) but I think the flying tuerrets is just fine. I only have the demo. Anyway- they don't seem to do that often on first round hits. But I have seen turrets get blown off after the AFV has burned for a while... although I have no idea if thats due to rounds cooking off or the ICM that's blanketing the area. :D

Anyway doesn't the M1 use depleted uranium AP rounds? I've read they're become very hot (whether theyre just hot or become hot on firing or impact I don't know), and since russian tanks stow ammo inside, I think the possibility of having a really big explosion is high.

I've never yet had an M1 turret blown off though.

And back on the CM aspect, does CM model infantry casualties due to having a tank knocked out near the supporting infantry?

edit: bits of the tank or of the armor where the round penetrated do fly off right? like I said I'm no grog... smile.gif

  7. Thanks for replying guys.

Thanks Philippe for the comment and the story, could I put that in my write-up?

So does that mean the objective flag of CM is still part of strategy? and the tactics part is the company A move to woods then run towards building A while spotter C lays down smoke, then kill occupants of building and defend flag? Just clarifying. smile.gif

What would be the defining characteristics that separates strategy from tactics? I could say that I'm moving Squad B to point D because I need that hill covered.

Icm197, totally forgot bout those, thanks.

Firefly, thanks also, but actualy I dont get it, may you explain? smile.gif

Mies, I'm confused, I thought operational level was concerned with campaigns? thanks.

(somehow I have the feeling my thanks are redundant) :D

  8. I'm making a webpage for our computer class and the topic that was assigned to me was about wargame tactics. I'm now posting my short write-up here for your scrutiny, (suggestions, violent reactions are welcome smile.gif ):

    A. Difference between strategy and tactics.

Strategy concerns the bigger picture. How to collect resources and how to use those resources. It concerns logistics, how to get the supplies to different places. It concerns the movement of huge units: divisions, corps, armies. It concerns huge swaths of land, from cities to whole countries or even continents.

Tactics concerns the details of the bigger picture. It's only concern about resources is how to use the supplies it recieves; i.e. where to use the ammo they recieve. It concerns battalions, companies, platoons, squads, individual people. It concerns the details the land: individual roads, rocks, individual buildings, individual trees, individual slopes.

    B. Basics:

    Know your own units

    -Know their capabilities

    -Know their weaknesses.

    -Know every minute detail.

-Know how they perform and in different conditions.

-Know how they react to different situations.

    Know your enemies

    -Know their capabilities

    -Know their weaknesses.

    -Know every minute detail.

-Know how they perform and in different conditions.

-Know how they react to different situations.

    Scan the terrain.

-The more you have an idea of the terrain youe operating or going to be operating on, the better.

-Look at possible avenues of approach to the objective.

Be aware of the current situation

-Take into account the situation and condition of every unit in the immediate area, friendly or otherwise.

Be a few steps ahead of the enemy

-Anticipate what the enemy might do next.

-Think of every possible thing you and your enemy could and would do.

    Take calculated risks; gamble

-Risks taken usualy become the deciding factor of any battle.

-Seize almost every opportunity that presents itself.

-There IS such a thing as being too careful.

    Take the Initiative

-Always try to be the one acting, not the one reacting.

-Being the one acting means you could make the enemy do what you want to do, just as long as he keeps on just reacting and not trying to seize the initiative. That's a good thing.

-Being the one reacting means that the enemy could steer you to whatever he wants you to do. That's a bad thing.

I was also thinking if I should state that artillery is the queen of the battlefield as a basic.

Our computer teacher also happens to be a Jesuit (who happens to be deeply involved in Zen and has some torture devices, but that's beside the point :D ), so I was also thinking of how basic tactics could actually apply to basic everyday life. again, thanks for even reading. smile.gif

  9. And another what-if that would need a longer time period: What-if, as allies, after defeating nazi germany (or even before that), you actually decide to go further east and oust the commies out of Russia? (I understand this game is based loosely on world war two when it comes to what happens when, but hey, why not?) :D

I'm not a grog but I think you mean 1,100lbs (500kg); not 1000kg. I'm trying to come up with some sort of witty remark about the metric and imperial systems, but I could'nt think of anything remotely amusing. :D

I'm doing this one from memory but I think the the JU-87D could carry 1,800lbs of external ordnance.

And just wondering(again, and yeah it's off topic, but hey... :D ), weren't mines designed to attack the tracks and not the belly?

  11. Heard that whoop sound too, although I notice it happen when my shermans get KOed (followed by the hatches opening), thought maybe it was a joke from the designers or something.

Or maybe it's when my tank blow up. dunno, just souns like a looney tune or a chipmunk saying whoopie! smile.gif

  12. Maybe a pause command for every waypoint oughta do the trick. Or maybe something like a "Do the best you can to kill the wretched thing, but PLEASE, don't get youself kiled doing it" command. :D

    You know like:

Sarge: Here's THE PLAN, we assualt the tank, shove explosives and stuff down every hole we can find, then get back here, in our nice, relatively cozy cover. NOBODY stays out in the open for more than 15 secs ok? and oh yes, this is a tank we're talkin 'bout, not a whore OK?

Something like that, sorry for the pathetic attempt at humor, it's way past 3 am here.

  13. Worst looking are the Kiwi-Shack-on Wheels and WWII Japanese tanks.

Dunno, I just like the Loaded-And-Deadly look, so that includes well-used shermans; PZ-IIL's,PZ-III's ;Panther, Tigers and their variants.

    Worst looking aircraft, I dunno,

The best looking aircraft, F4U's, A-10, F/A-18, F-14, more F4U's and A-10's, german WWII bombers, P-51's, Machi C.202, JU-87 Stuka's and the Dornier (Do-17 I think) that has a prop at the front front, a prop at the back, and an ejection seat smile.gif
