1.
quote:
Originally posted by Grisha: I would say the Vistula-Oder operation in January of 1945. The build-up of Soviet force concentrations on the two bridgeheads were mostly undetected, and resulted in up to 16:1 numerical superiority. German line forces were quite literally swept aside as was an entire Panzer division in reserve.

The question was about masses concentrated in a small area, not about superiority. The nest iteresting quudstion in suchc coditons is the role of artillery, This might beoyond the scope of thiis game. Not just finns but also pacific front. Very hard to modell.
 2.
quote:
Originally posted by Slapdragon: All I can do to illustrate Iwo better if to say imagine a 4 kilometer long stretch of Finnish highway. Now stick every soldier in the modern Finnish army in there. This was the density found at the initial stage of Iwo Jima since the landings stalled on the beach. By day 3 all three divisions were moving inland and spread out again, but the initial landing was a disaster. And artillery did chop the hell out of the Marines.

Iäm glag finnish army was never in thatationsian unlike our russsian does, 2 divisions on Raate roud, they couldn't expand and were destroyed. But I stil wonder wheather we can create plausible battles on the finnish fron in the summer 44. 60 minutes time line and artillery modellimg (maybe) wont allow for these decive battles. Any ideas?
 3. Certain pacific Islans sure, and Stalingrag very propably, allthough I must again reveal my ignorance and to ask what were the numpbers engaged and how wide was the area. Artillery to my understanding was not as decive factor as in Tali Ihantala. This raises also the question, that if japanese would have hade a lot of good artillery on those islands, would the marines have succeeded?
 4. Now this is not a thread abaut über Finns, but a genuine question: Tali-Ihantala was one of the biggest battles of the hole war (biger than El Alamein), and it was fought on a relatively small area. At breakthrough point the russians had 14 divisions (+ armor and artillery) on a stretch 10 km wide. At one point of battle a whole guards army was located and allmost surrounded (after finnish counter attacs) on an area of 2x5 km. With such force concentrations it is no wonder that the artillery was decisive factor and the finnish artillery, although not as numerous as russian one, was in the end able to halt these attacs. Now my question to all you grognards is, were there other battles with similar or even more dense troop concentrations?

As your Danish unterkusinen would say: to bilge or not to bilge? Never mind my friend, you (but just you!) can still call me överst! For a second I'll be silent, I'll sink deeply in myself and ponder about the irreverable trauma caused by my Swedish teacher who used knee-high brown stockings through the year. Not funny? Boy, you've got that right!
 6. Having made my notorious entree and having cleared out the the reeking air of the outer board, not to speak about elevating the level of ethnic jokes... ehm not very high but anyway... I felt an inexplicable urge to take a (hopefully short) dip in the putrid sludge of the pool. Let the confession come out! Silenced by the great bald one I come to thee knowing to be beyond all hope, the words of the poet dead on my lips, an obol in my mouth. But I loathfully spit the piece of nickel, just to see the worthless, salivated piece of metall dug out from between the two last unconnected braincells of Seany, who was foolish enough put his jelly head out from this stench, roll here and end up licked and sucked by you blister-handed wannabe oarsmen. Hold it! Now let me put my head down - not in awe and most certainly not in respect - but I hear your bowells moving, I can smell the blitz of gastric acid seeking its way out - the sorry excuses of taunts by those two unmentionable ones who should know to loath themselves even more than each other, those unterpoolers (any lower you can't get!) who so tellingly address me not not as sir, but ûber! 7.
quote:
Originally posted by Slapdragon: No doubt this is one of the Australian ciphers, but it may not be the Beaz.

Almost on the right track, but on the otherside of the globe. The latin name says it all, and Slappy was not the main target. What got me to post was this endless ûberfinn joking by two or three members, who have crossed boundaries of good taste or wit many times. Slappy was involved in these flames sometime ago, but not lately unlike the two other mentioned. My main purpose was to bring some balance and reason to the discussion, but I see that I have failed. Mostly my own fault.
 8. I agree that this is mostly futile thread and deserves no future even though I started this. As I said, even Slappy is highly regarded authority what comes to knowledge. But I don't think that many will disagree, that he sometimes gets too personall and even gets involved with nationalistic innuendo. There have been a lot of these closed discussions lately, I just wanted to point out that even though BTS is (somewhat justifiable) ready to put the blame on Slappys opponents, also Slappy should take a look in the mirror sometimes. And no, I'm no part of this snatch an identity game, more like a nonpartipicient lurker.
 9. 1. No Flaming and/or Baiting. If you have a strong opinion, that is fine. But express it in such a way that is non-abusive and not emotionally charged. Any user who feels that a posted message is objectionable is encouraged to contact us immediately by email. Cronic violators of this simple, civil requirement are not welcomed here and will be banned. We like to think our gamers are mature, rational people. Please help us keep this opinion of you! This statement has been the reason to close many topics this week. It is also noteworthy that a certain Slapdragon has been active on most of these closed topics. Coincidence? I doubt that. Allthough Slapdragon is usefull, knowlegable member of the community, he seems to be more than often engaged in flame wars and ad hominem attacks. In these same thread we often see nicks like Mrspkr and Mark[a number], who more than often totally uncalled for start Finn or Aussie bashing. I believe they are mostly trying to make a joke, but that joke has gone sour a long time ago. I'm not suggesting banning these posters, more than often they have a point or valid information to offer, but unlesss admin wants to give impression that he/they have some bias, I'd expect also these persons to have a symbolical slap on the wrist. It is morally difficult to raise up certain names, in flame wars there are allways at least two sides and these are not the only nicks engeged, anyway these have been prominent this week and also earlier. There might be also others, but this is not the point. The point I want to make is that this sort of behaviour is not healthy and the forum would be a nicer place for everybody without this sort of behaviour. At your mercy, BTS, we are your humble slaves... And before anybody else, Hi Mom!
 10.
quote:
Originally posted by Username: Are all Finns like the Finns that post here on the CM board? Lewis

Yes, actually all Finns are very much alike, lacking absolutely all amatory skills every Finn is nowadays produced in a secret EU-laboratory by method of cloning. In the production procedure Finns are deviously given national characteristics that especially irritate Americans. Now this board has more readers than anybody could guess, even Dobya himself lurks here from time to time, and this is the real reasen he decided to ban human cloning: to get every Finn of the board by the time of CM13... What's your problem, really?
