  1. I followed Schrullenhaft's instructions and it looks like my poor old ATI only has 2MB VRAM. I guess that's my problem. Solution - bigger and better card, right? Sheesh ...
  2. spwaw wrote: "CMBB required 32mg display memory,i think. How much you have?" Ummm - no idea. How do I check this? (Sorry for sounding clueless - I'm kind of used to software just working as soon as I boot it up.)
  3. WWMB wrote "What kind of video card is it? To find out, right click on my computer, go to properties, and find the hardware manager and look for entries under display adapters. CMBB has run with 8mb VRAM on certain computers, but your really want at least 16 if not 32 or more." Thanks dude. I looked under hardware manager/display adapters. I got "ATI 3D Rage Pro (atir3)". No mention of VRAM. Thoughts?
  4. For the love of Christ Almighty help me!!! I've been waiting for CMBB for a year. I've been badgering everyone I know to play CMBO. I've never in my life been hooked on a PC game - most of them bore me rigid - but CM has me completely in its thrall. Then my brother e-mails me to say the CMBB demo is out. I slowly download it on my dial up connection and, eventually, try to boot it up. First I get the title music and the start up screen. Then I get a black screen and a message saying I need a 800 x 600 resolution. I reconfigure my settings to 800 X 600 - same thing. I uninstall, reboot and try again, this time selecting 800 x 600. Same thing. I download DirectX 8 and try again. Same thing. CMBO worked fine on this machine. I'm running a Pentium II, with 192 MB RAM. I'm not sure about video card (I inherited this PC) but I figured if CMBO worked surely CMBB will. My brother keeps ringing me and raving about CMBB. Hell, people I *converted* to CMBO are ringing me and raving about CMBB. And I CAN'T PLAY IT, DAMMIT!!! For the love of God please help me. (yeah, okay, I've been drinking a lot of beer while trying to get this thing to run, so I'm a bit emotional. Help me dammit! Please!) yours, Sepp Dietrich
  5. Danke Schrullenhaft - downloading DirectX 8.0 now. Then it will be time to start downloading (and this time *backing up*) all my MODs again. Cheers,
  6. A virus came in under my radar on Sunday night and nuked my hard-drive to oblivion. I've spent the last three days rebuilding my system and software from scratch (and updated my anti-virus software - too late!) but I'm having no luck in re-installing CM. I'm installing from the same CD as I did originally, on the same machine (post-virus, but now clean and safe) - the only difference is that I'm now using a slightly older version of Win 98. It *seems* to install okay, but when I go to fire CM up I get an error entitled 'Unhandled Exception' which reads "Unhandled exception: C0000005 At address: 005623d0". When I click Okay I then get a Fatal Error message and I return to the desktop. I've now reloaded it and unloaded it five times and get the same message every time. I realise this is penance for not keeping my anti-virus software updated, but I think I've suffered enough. It's bad enough that hours and hours of downloaded MODS were lost forever in the firestorm, but not being able to play CM at all is killing me. And I'm on holiday as well! Please help!! <breaks down weeping>
  7. This is my first post to the forum, so I'll get the obligatory ranting out of the way now - THIS GAME ROCKS!! I'm not a big games fan and I usually find games that have my friends transfixed for days bore me within an hour or two. Not CM. I discovered it a few weeks ago and have been playing it almost daily since. Yeah, yeah - you've heard all this before, but it had to be said. Now to my questions. I'm starting to find my way around the scenario creator and am creating a fictional scenario about a Waffen SS advance down a narrow and heavily defended valley. (i) How do I place units? I've designed the terrain so that the defenders have plenty of nifty places to dig in and place AT guns, but when I select the units for the scenario I find them placed randomly (in the case of the Allied defenders) or along the Axis edge of the board (in the case of the Jerries). I hope there's a simple solution to this, as my scenario is somewhat lacking if I can't set things up myself. What am I overlooking? (ii) How do I create location labels for villages and landmarks? I also can't find how/where I can set these? (iii) What do the different zone colours for the Axis/Allied zones signify? Different countries? Different types of zone? Thanks in advance.
