I went back to my old computer and changed the settings on the video card. I was wrong about aa being the culprit. Anisotropic filtering what is causing the shimmering problem like Redwolf said. I have posted 2 photos to show what i mean by shimmering without af enabled. In the photos it is most obvious on the hedgerows and the banding on the roof of the rightmost house. In game it looks much worse than a snapshot for some reason. My current cards driver does not play well with af as well i guess.

  2. They both might of overoptimized because i dont think that either cards actually enable anti aliasing at all. I can set aa on both modern cards but i can tell that it is not actually implementing in the game because even at highest aa level with all other features on high the 3d world and units look like the 9700 with aa off.

I will try to post some pictures later this week since my old computer is not at my house now.

Are you sure aa is working on your system?

Ps what kind of card are you using.

  3. The last video card that gave me working anti aliasing in combat mission series was my 9700 using the ati hotfix drivers for call of duty on winme. I now have a x800 as well as have tried a nv6800 on a xp machine and can't find any drivers that work on these cards. With both cards you can set the aa on the control panel but there is no aa in the game- everything has a shimmery grainy quality. The new cards will not accept the older drivers. When i look at many photos posted of the game by others it looks like anti aliasing is not working on their cards as well. Is there any modern drivers for any of newer ati/nvidia cards that someone can recommend?

  4. because of the import map feature in cmbb quick battle operations could be easily doable if the player was able to change setup zones (after each battle) when importing the map into the quick battle. the same result could be acheived if the game allowed for 2 import map segments -one to import the surviving units, the other to transfer them to the (same) map with newly drawn set up areas from the battle editor. this would allow incredibly flexible oprerations which could be adjusted "on the fly" if they became unbalanced.

  5. sometimes you have a panzershreck unit hiding in the woods about 200m from a tank you want to take out. you give the sneak order to move closer to improve your odds of hitting the tank, when the unit "unhides" to begin its sneak it usually takes a shot since it is no longer hiding and gives away its position and wastes ammo before its sneak. to prevent this when i give the sneak command i also include a cover arc command away from any enemy which prevents the unit from firing before sneaking.

  6. when playing operations with multiple set up zones, changing the force balance ie giving one side 25% more troops causes all troops on the board to belong to one zone only. the troops in the other zones stay in their respective zones when the map loads but cannot be moved during the setup phase and can only be placed in the zone the computer has selected for all units. i dont know if this applies to battles as well. is there any way around this?

  7. when playing the AI i set the game up as a 700 point battle where the axis attacks and is set as armour. I play allied, usually canadian, as combined arms and then give the germans 25% more forces. I let the experience level of both sides stay at normal. usually you will have one anti tank gun and one tank to deal with the onslaught so the placement of your infantry and mines is crucial. I like Normandy scenarios so i usually pick gentle slopes moderate trees farmland/village in june/july setting. In my case the battle is always a challenge to me at this setting.

  8. I cant give you a answer but i had a problem similar to yours. About a year ago i got a geforce2 card and its performance was much slower than my voodoo 3 when playing combat mission (it also looked worse). This problem continued when i switched to an via based chipset from the intel one in my old computer regardless of what 4 in 1 drivers, nvidia drivers or nvidia tweak utilities i used. At that time the detonators went up to ver 12 and the 4 in 1 to 4.29. After joining this forum i found that problems with nvidia cards and cmbo were pretty common -but by then i had managed to pick up a voodoo 5 at a good price since 3dfx was folding.

The V5 has always run smoothly but if someone with a geforce 2 card and would post what driver setup works best for them i would be interested in hearing, and it would save you alot of time loading and reloading drivers to discover yourself.

Finally if you are in the process of trying out drivers you might want to download the a free program called "fraps" from the internet which will tell you your framerate as you play cmbo so you can tell immediately which setup is working best.

    Good luck

  9. Hi, I am currently using a voodoo 5 card to play combat mission in windows me. I had a nvidia 2 ultra card but could not find drivers (at that time detonator 6- 12 that allowed anti-aliasing to work properly. Even with fsaa on the v5 ran faster than my nvidia card when playing cmbo- on a p3 then on a thunderbird 1.4. I use drivers omega 4.12.01 .066 downloaded from voodoofiles.com with 3dfx tools 2.60.106. In my case the only time the screen whites out is when you esc to windows and then renter the game from windows. restarting the game brings back the normal screen.
