So as hypothetical and behind the desk as you sound, does this mean that I should have gotten out and asked the Somali's which ones wanted to kill me? Or better yet, maybe I should pose this question to anyone...How careful are you when you are being shot at. I don't condone the shooting of innocent civilians, but I seem to hear alot of opinion from someone who doesn't do alot of shooting. Battlefield ethics and morality will always be a debated topic, but when the U.S. fights, things like ROE are never clear, and there always seems to be an area where you can drift. I like the fact that you have an informed opinion, but unfortunately it doesn't hold alot of water with a vet like me. Morality in practice works, its too bad when the fighting starts, its goes to hell.

Elemental, Learn before killing? What planet are you on? Nobody learns what is moral in combat until they are presented with the dilemma. So many folks like to make combat into something that you can figure out, something where you can stop and say, "hey, I am going to go about this in a "moral" way". When you are trying to survive, you are on the fringe, unless you have been there, you don't know how you are going to react. Its not a part of the "learning" curve. You're raised with them or your not, and when you are in a bad situation, you will hope the morals you were raised with will kick in. I had Ranger buddies who were so pissed at the sammies that some of them lost it. Go down to the VFW and ask some of the vets there where morals came up when a buddy of theirs just got fragged by the enemy. Its alot to control.
  4. Sorry Major, I'm a newbie to the game. I'll have to experiment a bit to get the hang of it.
  5. Thought of something else too. Have comm come in and once in a while give you an update that they intercepted an enemy transmission that they are on the move, and then react accordingly. Of course, giving the option that OPFOR can have this capability too. You could also add into comm that you can activate scrambling so that when you give orders, they're not compromised. I know this is alot for a game, but its realistic, and you asked.
  6. What about clandestine ops? Like a recon team going in and finding the enemy, then exfiltrating them out with MH-53's or MH-60's. Giving them a slight percentage of getting caught and having to fight there way out. Or designing the capability to insert a team to do Interdiction, ambush , harassment, etc, to OPFOR. And vice versa, giving OPFOR these capabilities.
  7. Hey MajorH, do you think you could include some elite guys in this sim? Like Rangers, SEALS, SF, and RECON. Make em' extra hard to kill and lethality at 100%! Didn't notice if you have an airborne element, just ordered the game, but that would be a real plus too. Okay, wishful thinking.

High School, Grade School, doesn't matter, they're just kids. Its the kids just out of High school who bother me on the subject of morality and war. I tell them to get a video of what happened in Somalia and I'll explain to them in detail what happened. So many people "think" they know what warfare is all about, but once the shooting starts, EVERYTHING changes. I saw Sandinistas up close and personal too, from the wrong end of the barrel. Explaining this to kids who are right no matter what is a conversation better left alone. I like TACOPS because it forces you to think, to use your head. I am an "old soldier" from the 75th Inf. who just bought this game, and I hope the hell it's got a RANGER unit! [ 07-12-2001: Message edited by: SFC Matrix ]
