1. A REAL Scenereo Editor! Ooooh, Ahhhhh! What more can I say? I'm willing to wait, Major!
2. Whenever it comes out - my $$.$$ will be in the mail. You've got a GREAT product, Major. Your determination to have it as bugless as a program can be is appreciated and respected. Keep up the good work, Sir.
3. I've heard from the Major that there are folks out there using TacOps with LINUX (using wine - the WindoZe emmulator). My (using Linux) TacOps begins just fine, plays the music and shows the opening screen - but locks up as soon as I click the mouse or press a key. I do get the screen where I can choose Solitare - two player (etc), but at this point I've lost keyboard & mouse, and can do nothing but reboot my computer (which LINUX hates - it corrupts file system when you don't shut down gracefully). Is anyone out there using TacOps with LINUX? Have you had any problems you had to resolve? BTW, I'm using Mandrake 8.0 w/ KDE env, TacOps V3 (newest 3.xxx I believe). 4. I noticed that the Major has also conveniently included the Acrobat Adobe Reader Version 4 for viewing these documents, for those who don't already have it. Thanks, Major!

Wargames, like a car, like a gun, are tools. A Bn Cdr trained his soldiers at Ft. Polk's Taskforce 3 JANUS Simulation Center (war game) in the mid 90s, before they left on a real world mission. During training, mistakes were made, "simulated lives" lost. Upon return, this Bn Cdr came back to the trainers and thanked them, stating that lessons learned in the simulation were part of the reason they had a successful, peaceful, no casualty (any side) mission. I'm a civilian contractor, working with simulations. I speak officially for no one, but I want you to know that I believe I am continuing to serve my country (Army Ret.) in my role in simulations.
6. Happy 226 Birthday, US ARMY!! http://www.dtic.mil/armylink/birthday/
7. I've found making maps QUITE easy. I've made maps of my local area, and a few of my ideal battle field for the scenereos I wanted to run. My maps would be an embarrasment to me if you saw them, for I've not used traditional colors, and I've only included the detail I wanted in them. I've kept them simple, yet perfect for my needs. I love the map making utility for Version 3. It really enhances the enjoyability and playability for me. I can fight anywhere in the world!
8. >>Hi, I used to run the sim center at Fort Polk (across from Range Control). Is Ken Still there? Mike Robel Hi Mike, Ken's L. is still at Ft. Polk's BBS and doing a fine job. He works for Logicon. The civilians in the 2 JANUS Sim Centers (Taskforce 3 & LTP) are in a state of "flux" as the majority of the civilians move from TRW to Cubic over the next few months. Contract end/beginning is a normal part of life for (us) contractors, but still always causes a bit of concern. Some of the Active Duty Guys have recently been given a LEGAL copy of TacOpsCav and are (on their own time, not mission related) running it through it's paces, and having a riot doing it. I got my (with my crisp $20 bill) TacOps V3 (was using 1.04) and am LOVING it. This Retired Army Medic is FINALLY in command! One of the first lessons that TacOps has brought home to me, is that when the Infantry digs in, it's tough to beat 'em. I especially enjoy being able to create my own maps and run local Scenereos. Where do I sign up to join the Maj. H fanclub?
9. Aw, gee, now I'm blushing. Congratulations to Maj. Joe McLamb for his insight in utilizing this outstanding tool (TACOPS) to improve the Armor Captains Course . Well done, Joe! I suspect that there are hundreds of other small & large unit leaders who could benefit from utilizing TACOPS as a training tool but have not done so. If interested, contact Maj. H who can put you help you, or put you in contact with those who can. Constructive training is here to stay. qassis
10. We citizens need to choose. Do we want a strong military - yes or no? A strong military costs money. We need to recruit and keep good people. We need to maintain our equipment and continually seek to improve that equipment. Military have families - if we don't take care of them, the soldier / sailor / marine / airman will leave. Shoud we be willing to pay for a strong military - only if we want to continue to have freedom. (hmm, what does this topic have to do with TACOPS?)
11.
quote:
Originally posted by MajorH: TacOps and I will remain with Battlefront.

MAJ, When is TACOPS 4 coming out (I just purchased 3 and it hasn't arrived yet <grin/groan> )!?
12. Hello all. I'm new to this forum and would like to know what Military Units are using TACOPS, including the Active Duty, reserve, and National Guard components. I've read a bit about Canada and some other countries, and would like to hear more about that too. I maintain the hardware/ networks/ electronics of three Battle Simulation Centers at Ft. Polk - Two JANUS SimCenters, and one BBS SimCenter. I'm very curious to find out the answers to the above questions (personal - not job related). I've just purchased TACOPS 3 (hasn't arrived yet). I've been using TACOPS 1.04 for years. What are the most notable differences? Thanks!
