1. Hmmm, i don't remember exactly the model of the DVD-ROM and motherboard, i'll see at home (hell, i'm working now, or almost ;) ).

As stupid as it could sound i did not get the idea of running Windows update on my WinXP. Now THAT's an idea, i'll proceed to this tonight, hope it'll work.

    Many thanks !

  2. Well, CM still doesn't see the CD, even if :

    - I never changed the DVD-ROM drive letter (always have been H smile.gif

    - I only have one CD/DVD drive (this one)

    - WinXP correctly displays the contents of the disc, can refreshes it, etc...

    - The shortcut correctly points to my install directory

That's too bad since everything worked fine on exactly the same config under win98. I did not try to install the game on C: since the drive does not have enough free space. When i'll get partition magic, i'll try this one, but actually, i just CAN'T play CM, doh...

I suspect my girlfriend to be linked to this malfunction, hum... ;)

  3. Hi Alan,

Thanks for your answer. Indeed, i installed the game in e:\program files\CMBO

This is too bad cause i doesn't have many space left on C:...

Anyway, i'll try to create a link called 'CMBO' in c:\program files\ and see if the trick does it. I'll tell you tomorrow. If not, well, i'll have some Partition Magic fun...

    Thanks & Bye.

  4. Hi all,

I recently upgraded to Windows XP, and now i'm unable to play CMBO. I never had such a problem : when i run CMBO, the game starts, proceeds fine to main menu and...

It asks me to put the CD in the drive !!!

Of course, the CD *is* in the drive. Hey, how does he figure i juste installed the game ? ;)

Is there a simple answer to this one ? Many thanks...

  5. Hi all !

I don't know how CM was implemented, so i don't know how easy this would be. I also ignore how are working the Loki guys that port games to run under Linux.

Anyway, i'd be delighted to play CM under Linux, since this would prevent me from rebooting everytime to windows to switch between work/CM... Can i be the only one that'd love to see the game ported

Maybe this has already been discussed previously, if so, i apologize and i promise that next time i'll make-a-search ;)

    Thanks

  6. Playing Axis on Elsdorf scenario, i saw my life (ie my armors) ruined by a Sherman Jumbo. It killed my king tiger on a frontal shot :( and turned a full tiger platoon to junk.

Every shot i tried rebounded on him. I just *hated* him. Hell, the tank commander even ended the battle urinating on my flag...

Damn, i never made exhaustive testings, but i just can tell you that Jumbos are *truly* good tanks...

    Wow !

What's the FO name and rank ? I need this guy for my next game...

Hmmm, would it be possible to buy him multiple times like Wittman in some scenarios ? Hehe, now i'm invincible !!!

Yes, that's my opinion too... Trees are a double-edged cover. They hide your troops, and so are an 'usual' target for artillery strikes. And if the forest happens to get on fire, your troopers are doomed to burn or to get out of their foxholes...

My advice would be to get your foxholes sufficiently spaced. If you want to hide them, do this individually in **small** trees or scattered trees tiles. Not in "THE big forest that WILL be hit".

This way, the massive artillery strike won't hurt all of your troops, all the turns...

    Trust me : i *never* lost a PBEM. :D

Cafard, that has never played a PBEM... tongue.gif

    OR a Highlander episode

OR the Industrial Music group named GOGMAGOG.

OR could also be "Might and Magic" games monsters, Gogs and Magogs. Some ridiculously colored fire throwing daemons that definitively need a mod. tongue.gif

Never tried to take them out with a 150mm FO or a PzVI however... :D

I'm also very curious as to how you could improve the greatest game since Steel Panthers. Can it be done?

Hey, that sure can be done !

When Steel Panthers came out, i never thought that something better could be. And BTS did it... Now i never say 'never' ;)

I happened to live a few situations like that. This is when i'd have given anything to save the turn sequence to replay it forever... Damn, this *would* be a feature.

Hehe, then you gonna ask another drive for Christmas, in order to play CM2 :D

I agree this would be cool :). I suppose that's why tanks in CM can't move on frozen lakes. However, i often wondered about the effect of artillery strikes (150mm for example) on a frozen lake actually crossed by infantry...

I suppose actually turning areas of ice to areas of water should be a mess to implement, but Shouldn't area radius or damage be increased for such, due to ice breaking and people drowning ?

Sorry if this is a little bit off-topic, but JMcGuire talked about that, so...

I received my full version of CM not a month ago, so it's a recent one. There *is* indeed a Villers-Bocage scenario included. I can mail it to you if you're looking for it.

And... I do confirm, Wittman doesn't survive often, at least in my games. But i'm far from being an expert tactician :D
