1. Hi, Indeed, the only update from Microsoft for XP is a security update. Nothing about CD/DVDROMS. I forgot to note the exact specifications of my drive. I only know it's a Phillips, but i'll have a look tonight at the exact model. Thanks for the tips.
 2. Hmmm, i don't remember exactly the model of the DVD-ROM and motherboard, i'll see at home (hell, i'm working now, or almost ). As stupid as it could sound i did not get the idea of running Windows update on my WinXP. Now THAT's an idea, i'll proceed to this tonight, hope it'll work. Many thanks ! -- Cafard
 3. Well, CM still doesn't see the CD, even if : - I never changed the DVD-ROM drive letter (always have been H - I only have one CD/DVD drive (this one) - WinXP correctly displays the contents of the disc, can refreshes it, etc... - The shortcut correctly points to my install directory That's too bad since everything worked fine on exactly the same config under win98. I did not try to install the game on C: since the drive does not have enough free space. When i'll get partition magic, i'll try this one, but actually, i just CAN'T play CM, doh... I suspect my girlfriend to be linked to this malfunction, hum... -- Cafard
 4. Hi Alan, Thanks for your answer. Indeed, i installed the game in e:\program files\CMBO This is too bad cause i doesn't have many space left on C:... Anyway, i'll try to create a link called 'CMBO' in c:\program files\ and see if the trick does it. I'll tell you tomorrow. If not, well, i'll have some Partition Magic fun... Thanks & Bye. -- Cafard
 5. Hi all, I recently upgraded to Windows XP, and now i'm unable to play CMBO. I never had such a problem : when i run CMBO, the game starts, proceeds fine to main menu and... It asks me to put the CD in the drive !!! Of course, the CD *is* in the drive. Hey, how does he figure i juste installed the game ? Is there a simple answer to this one ? Many thanks... -- Cafard
 6. I do love Op Flashpoint... Best game since a long time. And even better in multiplayer. Never tried WW2 online, but it looks too much like a WW2 mod for Quake3 to me. And since WW2 mods are being developed for Flashpoint... BTW : "Hi mom !" -- Cafard
 7. Flame panzers are a great fun in cities... This way, it's the AFV that cleans buildings to secure it's infantry friends -- Cafard
 8. Well, okay, i searched through the previous posts and found my answer : no linux port planned. Sorry for the mess -- Cafard
 9. Hi all ! I don't know how CM was implemented, so i don't know how easy this would be. I also ignore how are working the Loki guys that port games to run under Linux. Anyway, i'd be delighted to play CM under Linux, since this would prevent me from rebooting everytime to windows to switch between work/CM... Can i be the only one that'd love to see the game ported Maybe this has already been discussed previously, if so, i apologize and i promise that next time i'll make-a-search Thanks [edited to be more "Gramatically Correct"] -- Cafard [ 07-02-2001: Message edited by: Cafard ]
 10. Playing Axis on Elsdorf scenario, i saw my life (ie my armors) ruined by a Sherman Jumbo. It killed my king tiger on a frontal shot and turned a full tiger platoon to junk. Every shot i tried rebounded on him. I just *hated* him. Hell, the tank commander even ended the battle urinating on my flag... Damn, i never made exhaustive testings, but i just can tell you that Jumbos are *truly* good tanks... -- Cafard
 11. I'd prefer GJ... Winter modded battles are so nice to the eye... -- Cafard
 12.
quote:
Originally posted by Wilhammer: The FO defends itself by plotting fire on my unit, just one meter way, and it kills my HQ and it gets away!

Wow ! What's the FO name and rank ? I need this guy for my next game... Hmmm, would it be possible to buy him multiple times like Wittman in some scenarios ? Hehe, now i'm invincible !!! -- Cafard
 13. Hmmm, is 'Hi mom!' misplaced here ?
 14. Well well well, Too bad i have to vote for my country in this... i'd qualify french generals in charge for the "brilliant" campaign of '40... Hmmm, maybe i'll even give a "special congratulation" to the first one to say that "Germans can't cross the Maginot line". Indeed, technically speaking, they did not 'cross' it... -- Cafard
 15. La Garde, south of France, on the mediterranean shore. Whew, am i the only one french on the board  -- Cafard [ edited 'cause i don't know how to spell 'mediterranean' ] [ 06-28-2001: Message edited by: Cafard ]
 16.
quote:
Originally posted by Babra: If there's just a few pockets of trees here and there which look like the ideal place to set up -- don't.

Yes, that's my opinion too... Trees are a double-edged cover. They hide your troops, and so are an 'usual' target for artillery strikes. And if the forest happens to get on fire, your troopers are doomed to burn or to get out of their foxholes... My advice would be to get your foxholes sufficiently spaced. If you want to hide them, do this individually in **small** trees or scattered trees tiles. Not in "THE big forest that WILL be hit". This way, the massive artillery strike won't hurt all of your troops, all the turns... Trust me : i *never* lost a PBEM. -- Cafard, that has never played a PBEM...
 17.
quote:
Originally posted by Herr Oberst: Foob, relax. Some ridiculously colored fire throwing daemons that definitively need a mod. Never tried to take them out with a 150mm FO or a PzVI however... -- Cafard
 18.
quote:
Originally posted by Cybeq: I'm also very curious as to how you could improve the greatest game since Steel Panthers. Can it be done?

Hey, that sure can be done ! When Steel Panthers came out, i never thought that something better could be. And BTS did it... Now i never say 'never' Cafard.
 19. I totally agree with this one! It would be a *great* improvement... This would allow to play on human-made maps without the need to get a third player to setup forces... Cafard.
 20. !!! Is that as simple than that ??? I thought the Autosave was an automatic save at each turn end, *before* computation... So i supposed it was no use, as computation would be different each time. Wow, i'll try it as soon as i'm home Many thanks Gyrene. Cafard.
 21.
quote:
Originally posted by lcm1947: Believe it or don't. My Greyhound took out a Tiger tank. Yes, it did!!! I think I sat there stareing at the screen for 5 minutes looking back and forth at the Greyhound and the knocked out Tiger.

I happened to live a few situations like that. This is when i'd have given anything to save the turn sequence to replay it forever... Damn, this *would* be a feature. Cafard.
 22.
quote:
Originally posted by Hardtail: Can any tell me how long they waited to receive there game. It has been 10 days. I asked for a tracking number or order number. No response. TIA

15 days for me. I'm in France. -- Cafard
 23.
quote:
Originally posted by ned lud: I'll be playing this for years.... the disk is in my drive and i've superglued my drive bay closed. No need to open it again.

Hehe, then you gonna ask another drive for Christmas, in order to play CM2 -- Cafard, lousy tactician, who nearly cried too, thinking BTS had forgotten to ship the CD...
 24.
quote:
Originally posted by JMcGuire: Heh... thinking about snow and ice, what if your big heavy tank could crack the ice and fall through... I know, probably not a likely "feature", but wouldn't it be cool...

I agree this would be cool . I suppose that's why tanks in CM can't move on frozen lakes. However, i often wondered about the effect of artillery strikes (150mm for example) on a frozen lake actually crossed by infantry... I suppose actually turning areas of ice to areas of water should be a mess to implement, but Shouldn't area radius or damage be increased for such, due to ice breaking and people drowning ? Sorry if this is a little bit off-topic, but JMcGuire talked about that, so... -- Cafard. Newbie CM player and lousy tactician.
 25.
quote:
Originally posted by rwcanuck: I think there are a few excellent "Villars Bocage" scenarios with Michael Wittman. I could be wrong, but from what I have seen on other posts is that poor Michael does not survive often.

I received my full version of CM not a month ago, so it's a recent one. There *is* indeed a Villers-Bocage scenario included. I can mail it to you if you're looking for it. And... I do confirm, Wittman doesn't survive often, at least in my games. But i'm far from being an expert tactician
