  1. So, ummmm, has anyone checked out Gear Krieg? How about some spectulation on some of the above questions. ------------------ Don't critisize someone until you have walked a mile in their shoes, that way you will be a mile away, and you have thier shoes.
  2. (I had put this on general discussion, but that board seems kind of slow) Have any of you wargame fanatics heard of Gear Krieg( http://www.dp9.com/tour/GK.htm ). It is a new tactical game from dreampod 9. I havent played it yet myself, I dont usually play table top games, but it caught my eye because of the setting. It takes place in a alternate history, a WWII setting where there has been some scintific advances beyond RL history. It is a pretty interesting concept. Anyway, I thought it would make a great CM Mod, or if Battlefront wanted to up its profit margin, it could license Gear Krieg from DP9 and make an entire game. Heavy Gear/Heavy Gear II were both moderatly succeful computer games based on the DP9 game. The combat mission engine should easily be adapted to the Gear Kraig universe. In fact, most of the units from GK are RL units, there is just some other goodies and some what ifs thrown in. But the real reason I want the to make this game is because it just looks cool. The walkers form the game are a very interesting idea, extream mobility, two vehicle modes, economy over heavy tanks. Here is are some US walkers. General Early: http://www.dp9.com/Products/covers/dp9-603.gif Longsteet, walker and vehicle modes: http://www.dp9.com/Products/covers/dp9-601.gif http://www.dp9.com/Products/covers/dp9-605.gif Germain Walkers: Loki: http://www.dp9.com/Products/covers/dp9-604.gif Valkurie walker and vehicle modes: http://www.dp9.com/Products/covers/dp9-602.gif http://www.dp9.com/Products/covers/dp9-606.gif Why walkers you ask. Well, there is the added off roading ability. The pop up out of cover, fire, and cover again(buy use of the walker legs). And with the vehicle modes, you can haul but down the roads with the rest of the force. And properly equiped(bazooka or antitank RPGs) the walkers(this is in the fiction of the game) are a match for tanks because of better mobility, however their armor is not as thick, but they can use terain to better advantage. To reamain upright and to help control the walkers, early computers are utilized. The walkers are generaly powerd by radials, and Christy is the one who invented the whole walker concept(in the GK universe that is). Gear Kraig just came out, so there is not a lot of stuff for it yet, but there is a lot planned. There are walkers from all the major players in the the world conflict. The Japanese walker scetches look cool, they have little arms, and carry spears with a shaped charge on the end, BANZIE!!! Well, who would like to see a GK Mod or game based on CM? If technically possible, do you think walkers would be an effective weapon platform. What advantages and disadvatages would they give. Would the added mobility of walkers off set their drawbacks? What type of terrain would walkers be best suited for. In some terrain they would have advantages over tanks(uraban?), others they would be kind of screwed(kuait?). What is real life wonder weapons do you think would have had the greatest impact on WWII(ME 262 for expample)? ------------------ Don't critisize someone until you have walked a mile in their shoes, that way you will be a mile away, and you have thier shoes.
  3. I am still wondering if any of the German tanks used wet storage for amo. If not, what was the reason for the better safty of the german tanks, was it just thicker armor, or was the German amo more likely to lite up the enemy. ------------------ Don't critisize someone until you have walked a mile in their shoes, that way you will be a mile away, and you have thier shoes.
  4. Thanks for the responces, but I am still wondering if any of the German tanks used wet storage for amo. If not, what was the reason for the better safty of the german tanks, was it just thicker armor, or was the German amo more likely to lite up the enemy. Sidenote: The Israelies used the sherman well after WWII. I have not been able to find much info on the Super Shermans, but they were a fairly effective tank. Was the army reluctant to modify its shermans? Seems to me that they could have been welding more armor on those suckers, at leas on the front. If allowed, wouldnt tank crews have been attaching every piece of plate steel to thier machines that they could lay hands on? ------------------ Don't critisize someone until you have walked a mile in their shoes, that way you will be a mile away, and you have thier shoes.
  5. Sorry if this is a dumb question, but did german tanks have wet storage? I cant get over the fact that the US seemed to have such industrial power, but the army continued to churn out inferior sherman tanks. At the rate aircraft advanced, It blows my mind that US tanks didt improve at a very fast rate. ------------------ Don't critisize someone until you have walked a mile in their shoes, that way you will be a mile away, and you have thier shoes.
