Not worded too well I suppose. Of course it only takes a few minutes to reboot. The half hour was long enough to check out the demo, realize what I would be missing, frown, and reboot back to X. As I said, rebooting is not an option for me. For a few non-circumventable reasons, my machine must stay in OS X.

If anyone has been able to play a game of CM in classic mode under OS X then please let us know here

Consider it done! Except for a screen resolution limitation, it works very well.

    Apple Menu->System Preferences->Classic Pane->Advanced Tab

You should see a pop-up menu with three items in it. Select "Open Extension Manager" and click the "Restart Classic" button. (I first quit all Classic apps just to be sure)

Classic will relaunch, bouncing 9 icon in Dock, pause a bit, and the Extensions Manager will appear. Deselect the Classic RAVE extension and click the "Continue" button. Classic goes on it's merry way and your good to go.

I normally run my monitor at 1280 x 1024. Classic and CM run at 640 x 480. (Ouch) When you shift to the desktop from within CM your nice OS X desktop is WAY small. The price of admission I guess.

ranks goes, because casualties have drained the Bn. of trained privates and the reinforcements arriving are not sufficiently

    trained.

Just to further that, Cpl. Jim Wilkenson of the Black Watch describing his worst moment in the Scheldt notes:

"I went across the wet open field and came across some kid who had been wounded and I said to him that I wanted him to get that Bren gun going and he said Sir, I can't because I don't know how to load it."

There have been only three N.C.Os. included in the reinforcement flow this month (apart from a few returning N.C.Os.

of our own), and they had been recently converted to Infantry from other arms.

Brig-Gen. Denis Whitaker of the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry on this subject said:

"So they said to them, ok, today you are an engineer but tomorrow you are a private in the infantry. They would give them maybe two weeks of training and send them over to the continent, most barely knowing how to fire their weapons."

These and other quotes for a Woensdrecht scenario that I am working on are taken from a History Channel documentary describing the Battle of the Scheldt. It contains some very interesting insights into the fighting with great film of the terrain and conditions that the 2nd Infantry faced over there. A truly horrifying set of conditions all things considered.

Yo, Michael, I haven't forgotten about you. smile.gif The notes are coming, life in the way again. (Gonna have to get a new life, one devoted entirely to CM) wink.gif

In order for CMBO to work with OS X RAVE support will have to be implemented better than it is now (and minimal RAVE support only exists in Classic mode to boot - this is why people aren't seeing the RAVE-based 3D battlefield). BTS would have to rewrite the entire 3D engine in OpenGL before CMBO would be "carbonized" - most likely not gonna happen.

And that's it in a nutshell I think. I can almost guarantee you that Apple will not fix or add RAVE support for OS X as they have stated many times that OpenGL is their graphics engine for 3D. Another game that I play fairly regularly put out two versions of the game, an OpenGL and RAVE, with the RAVE version now being phased out by that developer for these very reasons ... no support from Apple.

If BTS is only working on a RAVE version for CM2 then I'm afraid that their Mac sales are going to suffer and that is a shame, I think. And no, I don't think it's their fault at all. Unfortunately, Apple can have a rather "deaf ear" at times.

Maybe if enough people made some noise ...

All this aside and FWIW though, OS X is the BALLS!

Quite right. For what it's worth though, I have been able to load it, go through all the motions of selecting games, sides and such, but the map won't draw. I can load the scenario editor and do everything up until previewing the map. Then the map won't draw but you can click where the Go button would be to exit the preview and return to the terrain editor. Most disappointing.

  6. Hey everyone,

I seem to have an odd problem that I haven't found an answer to in searching the forum. When I send a scenario that I am working on to a Windows user, he receives two files; scenarioname.cmb and %scenarioname.cmb

I've tried dragging the scenario onto the email, changing the file type and creator to TEXT then dragging onto the email and zipping the scenario and dragging the zip onto the email. In all cases he receives two files, one with a percentage sign.

I suspect the percentage sign version is the resource fork and the other the data fork from a Mac file. He is able to view and use the normally named file and ignore the other so it's just one of those annoying quirks. I use Eudora with it's attachment setting set to Appledouble (MIME). Is anyone able to shed some light on what I might change/do to avoid this.

Lets hope so. I was never able to get CM to work in the classic environment with the Public Beta. It required a reboot back into 9.0.4. Of course, that was an earlier version of CM as well. CM runs almost 24/7 on my machine now and as we count down the days for OS X, my fingers are crossed.
