Average Age of a Combat Mission Player
Miles.Osborne replied to Miles.Osborne's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Interesting. I hadn't realised this thread had already been done sometime ago. I did check but found nothing. Quite glad as it is interesting to see their is life in us older gamers Out of interest I did this poll in Europa Universalis and their average surprisingly was around 30. I'd expected higher. Combat Mission average meets expectations That said impressive that 2 games are suiting the older players as well as being enjoyed by some younger players. Miles -

Just done a thread in another games forum that proved to be quite interesting. Basically for those who are not shy, post your age in here. To make it easier to keep track can we have it in the following format Age of person total age thus far number of posts thus far average So if I kick off Age 33 Total 33 No of Posts 1 Average 33 Look forward to seeing the results. I have a guess how it will turn out

Favourite Scenario for Human v Human
Miles.Osborne replied to Miles.Osborne's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
I am curently playing South of Sword from the recommednations, my take on it is that it is an excellent scenario. I am not convinced it suits Modem users on PBEM as my opponent and I are regularly generating 2MB turn files which is certainly slowing down our turn rate. Also this scenario is now running like an absolute dog on my machine i've a K2 380 with 196MB RAM and V3 2000 and it is really struggling (any tips on performance advice for CM appretiated Miles -

Cheers Brian it was cute picture. It must have looked a sight as I skiied her down the mountain bending over and holding her under her arms. So she could at least get the feel of skiing - killed my back though That said she is now approaching 5 and still remembers herself skiing so I guess it was worth it Miles -

TCPIP Game Possible Bug
Miles.Osborne replied to Miles.Osborne's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Apologies. Damn and I thought my machine was fast Previous game it had rotated the turns so I guess our machines must have been closely speced. Miles -
Just been playing a TCPIP game in 1.12. It was a game that started pbem. We moved it to tcpip and we have now returned it to pbem after about 5 moves. Anyway all the moves were genned on my opponents computer. I thought tcpip rotated who genned the turn. Certainly appeared todo that in my last game. Thoughts? Miles

Favourite Scenario for Human v Human
Miles.Osborne replied to Miles.Osborne's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
It might be me There doesn't appear to be a Tin Tanks scenario in this Rune Pack. Miles -
Hope its not a silly question. Is this the best Mod Manager (Only one?) and where can it be downloaded from. Miles

Hi As a reasonably new player on CM (2 weeks) has anyone got a scenario (on the CD or downloadable) that works well as a Human v Human PBEM battle. I am playing a number of PBEM games. Generally have 4 on the go. QBs tend to work well but I have 2 of those so a good scenario would be great. The game time to be around the 40 turn mark or maybe slightly longer. Neither of us have any preference to which side we play. Appretiate any comments. Thank you. Miles

Bit of a weird one. I thought i'd fire up the tutorial. Anyway I got to the setup phase where they are talking about LOS. I clicked on the lead sherman and noted the colour diming with distance. However rather strangely when I drew it to the Brush just before the objective. Again LOS was viewable. I then went beyond the brush and the LOS changed from Black which was fine. However the red line stopped quite a way before the brush. Actually at the road. Surely it should have stopped at the point LOS was lost. Other areas on the map seemed to be handled correctly Any views or have I interpreted LOS incorrectly? Miles

As we've already had a couple of surveys I'm interested in how many people use the PBEM Utilities available. So the options 1) One Click http://home.worldnet.att.net/~kyleneet/CMOneClick/ 2) PBEM http://www.sci.fi/~fuerte/pbem.htm 3) Don't use a utility 4) Don't play PBEM Starting off 1 1) 1 2) 0 3) 0 4) 0

Quick Survey: Allies or Axis?
Miles.Osborne replied to Scott Adams's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Sounds like you've started something here Scott 3 3 2 22 9 7 -
I'm not convinced. I just sent myself an email attachment from work, outlook 2000, with spaces the filename and Turnpike handled it correctly. That doesn't prove that their is not a problem at the TP end, but their is somthing different about these attachments to say Outlook

OK Being the original person who recommended to Scott the Fuerte utility. I was initially sceptical about one click. However after using it I am quite impressed. The features that work well: 1. The managing of whose move it currently is 2. The Game management i.e auto password 3. The simplicity 4. Linking to other players not using one click is easier. The features that I miss Mapi connection Attribituting an extension type to one-click so if both players are using it then you could just double click that and it would do the rest - now that would be lovely I also think that their is something strange with the attachments. I use an email client called turnpike. (http://www.turnpike.com). They're just in testing of a new one: news:demon.ip.support.turnpike. It is looking very nice (integrates within the explorer interface - amazing stuff) anyway I digress It follows and has always followed RFCs to the letter. When I received Scotts turn from one click it showed the attachment as "st" saving the attachment as the subject line resolved the problem but I would guess their is something not quite right in the attachment format. My guess is that Outlook handles it correctly. I'll research within the TP NG but if anyone has any thoughts then fire away. MAPI link would resolve the problem Nice utilities Guys though. Miles

I would suggest going to the CM - Opponent finder. I started my games up PBEM. You can then move to TCPIP if you wish afterwards or vice versa. BTS well done both interfaces work very nicely. Very impressed with the TCPIP play Miles BTW When am I going to become a member

As a relatively new player I have been absolutely amazed at the amount of mods available but at the same time somewhat overwhelmed with the sheer volume of them. Has anyone any personal recommendations of must have mods whether its tank mods/sound changes etc. I'm most interested in universal mods i.e i'm not too keen to switch some mods in just for winter figting. Any advice appretiated. Miles [This message has been edited by Miles.Osborne (edited 02-03-2001).]
