  1. I don't understand why timers have been placed on our decisions in this game. Ok, I guess it's supposed to represent real-time brainwork, but it just seems out of place to me. I'd much prefer my decisions to be completely turn-based. With the pause function, it's practically that way now, so why have a timer at all?

No doubt this has been discussed before, so forgive me if it's a repeat. I didn't find an earlier thread.

This is an excellent turn-based game, so why the timer? I'd like to hear your opinions.

  2. After a few weeks of play, gaining levels, receiving medals, all was lost due to a "jit debugger" error. I have no idea what happened, but after I finished a battle, the game crashed and I could no longer play. Couldn't even start a new game.

After a couple hours of internet research and futile maintenance, I reinstalled the game, hoping that my pilots would live. No dice.

Has anyone else experienced this error? I'd hate to think it could happen again.

  3. I too am a DIF newbie (purchased just last week) and had/have similar frustrations, but I finally understand enough of the game to keep me coming back. It's too addicting to give up.

The more I play, the more I'm reminded of favorite games such as X-Com and Magic: The Gathering (MicroProse). Those games baffled me at the start, but the more I played and researched, the more I was sucked in. Eventually, I understood the strategies and depth of the game and I couldn't get enough.

DIF feels like that. I'm stumbling through but learning a bit more each day. For now, I'm just worried that I might lose the team I've built, especially my original pilot and wingman who have worked their way up to the Lightning and Corsair with plenty of points to burn (beginner stuff, I know...)

I'd love to see a strategy guide for this game.

  4. This is a cross-post and I apologize, but I'm anxious for informed responses.

In search of a new wargame, I recently downloaded demos for both Airborne Assault and Strategic Command. While both look good, Airborne Assault struck me as the deeper game. Granted, I only played each game for a short while, so this is a rush to judgement.

Never-the-less, I'm surprised at the activity in the Strategic Command forum when compared with the Airborne Assault forum. Is Strategic Command really the better game? The number of posts here seem to indicate this.

I'm going to buy one of these games, so I'm just looking for some input from the vets of both games. My early choice is leaning toward Airborne Assault but I want the Strategic Command fans' perspective.

Sell me wisely on one game or the other.

    Thanks,

    Mud
