  1. I agree, Schrullenhaft went really out of his way to help me get CM working a long time ago. Many thanks to him
  2. Please read the following and share your thoughts on it: "The Hitler Experience was made possible as a result of group consciousness. Many people want to say that Hitler manipulated a group - in this case, his countrymen - through the cunning and mastery of his rhetoric. But this conveniently lays all the blame at Hitler's feet - which is exactly where the mass of the people want it. But Hitler could do nothing without the cooperation and support and willing submission of millions of people. The subgroup which called itself Germans must assume an enormous burden of responsibility for the Holocaust. As must, to some degree, the larger group called Humans, which, if it did nothing else, allowed itself to remain indifferent and apathetic to the suffering in Germany until it reached so massive a scale that even the most cold-hearted isolationists could no longer ignore it. You see, it was _collective consciousness_ which provided fertile soil for the growth of the Nazi movement. Hitler seized the moment, but he did not create it. It's important to understand the lesson here. A group consciousness which speaks constantly of separation and superiority produces loss of compassion on a massive scale, and loss of compassion is inevitably followed by loss of conscience. A collective concept rooted in strict nationalism ignores the plight of others, yet makes everyone else responsible for _yours_, thus justifying retaliation, 'rectification', and war. Auschwitz was the Nazi solution to - an attempt to 'rectify' - the 'Jewish Problem'. The horror of the Hitler Experience was not that he perpetrated it on the human race, but that _the human race allowed him to_. The astonishment is not only that a Hitler came along, but also that so many others _went_ along. The shame is not only that Hitler killed millions of Jews, but also that millions of Jews _had_ to be killed before Hitler was stopped. The purpose of the Hitler Experience was to show humanity to itself..... Hitler was not sent to you. Hitler was created _by_ you. He arose out of your Collective Consciousness, and could not have existed without it. _That_ is the lesson. The consciousness of separation, segregation, superiority - of 'we' versus 'they', of 'us' and 'them' - is what creates the Hitler Experience." Thoughts and comments?
  3. Actually, someone posted the following link in this forum before, presumably the guy who made the program. Here is the link: home.worldnet.att.net/~kyleneet/CMMovie/ It's supposed to do what you asked above. Although I haven't tried it myself, you may want to give it a go. Good luck...
  4. I played the mod for a bit last night, and it's pretty cool, although quite buggy. For instance, I can empty a whole smg clip at an enemy 1m away whose SIDE is facing me and no damage to him at all. I f I maneuver slightly to either side, he will die. But no killing from the side And yes there were those few immature people who would sit in the tank at the spawn point and kill all their teammates. But I hope this mod does really well. I'm also hoping that they improve the player models and animations tho, as now they look to stiff and blocky. Ah, and the smg's and BAR seem to be a little too accurate. I'm sure in future releases it'll just get better and better...
  5. I don't want to spoil the scenario for anyone by giving away the name, but in this scenario 4 tigers show up on the left flank as reserves. I had a full regular US infantry platoon stuck crossing some open ground when the tigers appeared right next to them, so the only alternative I had was basically to assault the 4 tigers (which showed up all next to each other). I fast-moved the infantry squads and HQ right next to the nearest tiger, and after throwing some grenades they managed to knock it out. Around one full squad was left at this point, and this squad managed to immobilize a second tiger whose crew shortly abandoned it. The 3rd tiger was taken out by a sherman as the tiger tried to face the closing infantry, and the 4th tiger blew up at the hands of a pershing. The infantry squads weren't engineers - they could have had rifle grenades - but I'm not sure.
  6. Cool - thanks for the replies. Yeah Kump's page and the MDMP pages are reasons I can't wait to install some new mods And hearing one of the original texture graphic designers say to download some new ones right away, I'd better get on it!
  7. Hi - Just a curious question - How long did some of you play CM before installing the graphics and sound Mods made by 2nd or 3rd party people? The reason I ask is that I'm wondering whether I should play using the original graphics to appreciate BTS's original artwork, or install Mods right now and see the "enhancements" made by others. I just received the game a few days ago and have played a few battles (not to mention the demo a lot), but after browsing some Mods on the web I can't wait to install them. So what do you veterans recommend? Installing now or later?
  8. I would hope that the people on this board would stop the stereotyping of people who are "twitch-game junkies". I personally love both strategy wargames as well as many first person shooters, whether the game requires reflex and coordination or not. Perhaps I'm just growing tired of people who enjoy one genre of gaming being condescending towards a different style of gaming which doesn't toot their horn. I sort of understand the way it is meant in this thread, but please in the future can people be a little more considerate in their stereotyping? Thanks.
  9. Well whadda you know! I didn't find any thing in the system.ini pertaining to my card (to my limited knowledge that is). And the options in my multimedia panel are ALL greyed out, including advanced properties, and even "show volume controls", not to mention no "properties" being available for my mixer device. As I went down your post to your last suggestion and tried out disabling "sync start", I loaded up the game, didn't hear any sound during the intro movie, but lo and behold there was music and sound in the menu! Just to make sure, I loaded a tutorial and there was sound and ambience in game as well. This was all with the 1.05 executable. There is also an option next to sync start called 44.1kHz only, and the help file for this button was as follows: 44.1 KHz Only Selects 44.1 KHz, 16-bit Stereo as the only mode in which the WavePRO may be used. This feature is provided as a workaround for a bug in Microsoft’s DirectSound API, which affects some multi-channel applications. But enabling that didn't work either. So it looks like the sync start may be the cause - why, I don't know. And no sound during the intro may be a result of how my card handles sound in quicktime. But sound in the movie intro I can live without. So Schrullenhaft, I want to thank you very much for taking the time to even look at options in my sound card's control panel (not to mention your going into detail and quick responses). No other big-name tech support would have gone to such lengths to help me out, including the files you sent me. You have my most sincere gratitude! COMBAT MISSION HERE I COME!!
  10. <sigh>... Ok The older executable doesn't make the sound come back during the movie. I get kicked back to the desktop when the menu comes cause it says I have no CD, but I do. And I reinserted the CD and tried it again... same thing. So... It's not a volume setting thing I guess. If it is the sample rate, then besides converting all sounds to 22khz (if that would even work within the full release engine), is there anything else I can do? Can you specify what "tweaks" I could possibly use?
  11. Schrullenhaft: First, sorry about writing your name wrong a few times Here's what my DirectX Diagnostic looks like: Device Name: Ch 3/4 Out Wave/496 (emulated) Device ID: PCI\VEN_10B5DEV_2180SUBSYS_00000 Manufacturer ID: 159 Product ID:2 Type: Emulated The 3/4 Outs could also be 1/2 outs - this just refers to having 4 outs on my card, 2 sets of left and right outs. Driver Name: Version: Certified: Other files: WAVE8.VXD Provider: Gadget Labs In WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WAVE8.VXD, the only useful information I can see is that it says type: Virtual Device Driver. As for the type of emulation, I don't know. I see what you are saying about playing 44khz sounds under DirectX. If this is the case, what can I do? I can probably convert the files to 16Bit 22khz in one of my sound programs, but what a pain that would be to go through all the sounds. As for sending me the older executable file, would ICQ do? I also have mIRC and DCCing the file would be really easy. Also, is even the sound during the intro movie recorded in 44khz? Cause I can't hear that either. Please let me know and thanks again for the help.
  12. Ah sorry - yes, I'm using the 4.5 drivers for my sound card (6-27-00). Too bad that company went out of business. It had friendly and very personal support, just like this board And the sound from the card for digital recordings sounds gorgeous!
  13. Thanks for the replies. In answer to each of your suggestions: Madmatt - There is no generic windows control over my sound volume. In the multimedia properties, the volume button is greyed out. I set my sound card control panel to -10 (the only other option being +4, and neither works with the full version of CM), and adjust the volume by a headphone amplifier. The sound card is made o work with recording programs like Cubase VST, which have their own internal master volume controls. BeWary - I guess I could go and purchase another sound card - but the main problem with that is that I've tried it before, and because my sound card is meant for recording (my career ), having more devices in my computer means shared IRQ's, which in turn causes the sound in my recording software to become really messed up. After playing the demo I'd really like to be able to play the full game with sound believe me, so any way I can make this work would be cool! Schullencraft - My sound card is capable of supporting 44khz and even 48khz, including 24bit sounds, so I'm pretty sure the sampling rate is not the cause. I'm using DirectX version 7.0 (4.07.00.0716). I tried turning the sound hardware acceleration to none (to the left) and started up CM but it didn't work. As for your question about emulation, I honestly don't know and have been trying to figure it out myself. Almost all sound in games I have tried including a lot of demos for other games have worked, the ONLY exception I have found being games based on the Unreal engine. And I _know_ the sound card works with CM, just not the full release. I'd very much like to try an older executable just to see if that's the problem, assuming it's ok with those people you mentioned. How can I contact you? I use hotmail so I'm not sure if files greater than 1MB are allowed... Thanks again everyone!
  14. A little update - The sound didn't work in versions 1.03 or 1.05. I've tried manually reinstalling CMBO even and installing the newest quicktime (deleting the old one). Still no luck with the sound. I've installed the gold demo again, and the sound works fine in the demo. I load up the full version right after and then no sound at all. I'm thinking it may have to do with the new feature of the latest versions not starting CM at a loud volume (from what I've read froms searches on this forum. The problem with that is my sound card (being meant for digital recording) does not have a volume control (because volume is controlled by external equipment). It does have a -10 and +4 setting, but switching between the two does not make the sound audible still. If I am right and this is the case, what can I do to get sound on the full version? Is there something I can download so that the instant loudness when you start CM is there again (assuming that this is the problem)? I've had no problems with other games running on this sound card with volume levels. I bought the game from knowing that the demo worked fine on my computer. I won't purchase another sound card, even if I did I don't have any available IRQ's to have another sound card in my computer. Thanks again in advance. HELP!!
