1. Hi Medlinke,

As I explained in my reply to your e-mail, it is serendipity. Furthermore I have NEVER been to your website.

I first used this template last week (13th January). I posted the template to the forum because my opponent thought it was a good idea and I thought other people may want to use it. I bloody wish I had never posted the damn thing, I never expected to under suspicion from stealing frown.gif Even one of the denizens from the cesspool is pissing on me from a great height wink.gif

Medlinke, I can understand that you would be suspicious, if not downright mad when somebody posts something similar on the same day as you. For that I do sincerely apologise. However instead of waiting for my reply to your e-mail message, you have now virtually accused me of stealing in a public forum. On the Internet this is very serious offence and I kindly ask for a public apology to clear my name.

    thanks in anticipation

    BnP

    p.s. I don't hold a grudge, and I hope we can have a game sometime smile.gif

  2. Sgt H,

War is Hell and you take any advantage you get. Artillery is a powerful tool and using it to break up an incoming attack is accepted practice. If you are the attacker you just have to take into account in your force selection and setup to minimise the effects of an artillery bombardment.

It's not nice when you lose you favourite unit, but that's the risk you take. Having a 'safe' area I think is unrealistic and does not reward good play, which includes an appreciation of the terrain as well as the enemy's intentions. In your setup you can also use reverse slopes to minimise the effects of any bombardment

I'm sure if you were the defender the first thing you would be doing is selecting a few TRP's...I would.

Read this defence tutorial and see how Arty is used: http://www.geocities.com/fpd131/

  3. Greetings CMer's

I am designing a PBEM template and would like to hear your comments and suggestions.

This Template will not suit everybody. However if you like it, give it a go

    DESIGN PHILOSOPHY:

The template replicates the Quick Battle setup screens. but also adds version control and a method for tracking e-mails (thanks Karch).

    The template works like this:

    1. Player 1 thinks up a scenario that would be fun to play for either side. Then Player 1 chooses the setup options and deletes the unused options.

    2. Player 1 then e-mails the template to player 2. As matter of courtesy, give player 2 the choice of side.

    3. If player 2 agrees with the options then player 1 sets up the quick battle and e-mails him/her the first file using the e-mail naming convention. If there is some disagreement, then work it our for yourselves.

    4. Start playing!

    PBEM GAME

    Greetings,

    Your choice of side.

Let me know if you agree with the situation and setup and I'll send through the setup file. Alternatively please e-mail me any changes or clarifications.

    Regards

    SITUATION

(background to the clash) for example:

A British battle group is conducting a deliberate reconnaissance in force towards a key village in this sector. The village is vital to the Germans as it contains a well-camouflaged POL dump they have been unable to move due to the lack of suitable transport. At the moment it is only lightly guarded by third line troops. As a result, the Germans are using the overcast weather

to despatch a covering force to secure the POL dump properly...

    E-MAIL PROCEDURES

    E-mail Turnaround: 1 per day / 1-2 per day / 2-3 per day / 3 or more per day

Time Zone: +12 to -12 GMT (Note: for Windows 95/98, you can find you your

time zone under the Date/Time Properties).

    E-mail file naming convention: player1_player2_CMversion_filenumber,

    sender's inital

When you send a pbem file, increase the filenumber by 1 and add your initial, for example:

Tony sends the file tony_scott_105_001t to Scott. Scott then sends the file

tony_scott_105_002s to Tony and then Tony replies with tony_scott_105_003t

back to Scott. This way you can tell by looking at your list of files if you

have any files to reply to. Just find the highest number for each game, if your initial is not on it... play it. (thanks Karch)

    PHILOSOPHY

    1. My gaming philosophy is that I PLAY to win, not play to WIN. I play CM because it is fun, and I get to meet a lot of people with similar interests. I like to win but I'm not interested in grinding people into the dirt. If winning is ALL you care about then let's stop here.

    2. I will accept any reasonable ceasefire if you ask for one by e-mail.

    3. If I haven't received a reply within 24 hours of e-mailing a PBEM file, I will send it again.

    4. If I can't finish a game (ie. I'm either dead or in the Intensive Care Unit) then I will let you know as soon possible and either ask for a ceasefire or I'll surrender.

    5. After the warm glow victory (or the cold, sludgy depths of defeat) we'll have debrief session of how the battle went. I find the debrief is as fun as the game - especially when you get to see the end game map.

    6. Feel free to e-mail me your questions and comments before, during or after the game.

    7. Most of all, have fun!

  4. A very interesting and thoughtful post. However there is an additional benefit. If you can setup a tank to direct fire HE onto a enemy position then you have gained an advantage. The enemy must either use smoke to block LOS, or use Artillery and hopefully hurt your tank. However the most usual response would be for the enemy to send a tank to kill your tank. Now If you're a really cunning player, you would have be prepared for this, and as soon as the ugly snout of the enemy tank (or TD) pops up, you hit it with a previously hidden AT Gun, TD or Artillery...

Yeah but my Archer got shocked by one your MG42's as soon as it poked its long snout around the corner..Hey BTS, I don't want my Archers to be shocked, so can you please change it so they are invincible wink.gif

(for those with no sense of humour, this is an attempt at sarcasm and also a poke at all those "Hey BTS, you gotta change this!!!" threads...)

  7.
quote:
Originally posted by karch:

One problem in CM with trying to fake your opponent into thinking you have an operable main gun.. is that the damage reporting might be a little too accurate, especially at longer ranges.

    S

Actually Karch, I had no idea about the damaged gun, as I had the 'detailed armoured hits' turned of...I just watched the fall of shot and heard a great big CLANG as the round hit the tank! I actually thought the 4.2" mortar round took out your tank commander...

Mind you, I hope we are talking about the same tank, otherwise my last turn move could be a a real FUBAR smile.gif

I do agree that detailed armoured hits does provide a lot of information. I'll add that as an option to the PBEM template.

  8. Firstly, don't fight his tanks with your tanks. German tanks are technically superior and you will get creamed. use artillery AT guns, Fighter-bombers, infantry, smoke etc.

Secondly, if your opponent insists for the next game to be the Germans AND play on a map with little or no cover, I suggest you find somebody else.

Thirdly use mortars to smoke his Hetzers out. If they can't see, then they can't shoot smile.gif If he moves his Hetzers out then peg him

Fourthly, use heavy artillery (ie. 4.5" or above) or Fighter-Bombers to immbolise/kill his Hetzers. An Immobilised Hetzer is a dead one.

Fifthly, If you're opponent is such a wizard with Tanks, insist that he plays the allies on a map with bugger all cover...

  9. I have been experimenting with 25pdrs in direct and indirect fire roles. Firstly I designed a very simple scenario of Panzergrenadier battalion bumping into a deployed 8-gun 25pdr battery in Fog.

I have played this battle many times over and the effectiveness of VT is devastating. The Battery usually gets wiped out in first 6 turns, but the 25pdr VT FO single-handedly obliterates the Panzergrenadiers. I've watched the fall of shot closely, and have seen a single airburst take out 3 Halftracks and a platoon commader. Not a bad exchange rate! It also immobilises Panzer IV's very nicely.

So esteemed gentlemen I have the following questions:

    1. What are your experiences with VT? (not only the 25pdr sort)

    2. How do you think it is best employed?

BTW, I can e-mail my scenario to you if you want try it out.

  10. The Churchill is an interesting tank. Lots of armour but a week gun. Slow moving, but a fast turret. I've seen the later Churchills (with 152mm frontal armour) shrug of Panther hits at over 500m. I prefer to use the Churchill VIII with the 95mm Close support gun. It's thick armour makes it very useful for close in work. The 75mm version uses the same gun as the Sherman. However it suffers in the AT role as it is too slow avoid Panther and Tigers, which will eat it for Breakfast.
