  1. I decide to lower myself and take a look into the Cess on account of the memorial to Boggsy theme, and what do I find? Shoddy workmanship, that is what. I know that accurate records might be a bit too much to ask of a mortgage banker, but the glaring errors and omissions in Red Jo Xia’s site truly indicate how far he has slipped into his dotage. Among the many errors:

    1. CMPlayer is indeed a kanigget in the House of Ruin. He was sponsored by none other than myself in a moment of weakness. What can I say, he made me laugh. Once.

    2. Capt. WildMan, our valiant man in blue, serving his country, and protecting us from terrorist, or papercuts, or somefink. Another Ruined Knight.

    3. Chuppacabra, and he may even be a Seniour moment Knight.

    4. Jshandorf, of jdmorse linage.

    5. The lawyer known as Lawyer.

Don’t make me have to straighten you out again Jo.

people who play these, just keep on playing and improving, hoping the next incarnation is just around the bend.

spwaw fans are still fighting over 7.1 vs 8.1, h2h, and now 8.2 is coming.

on a worldwide scale, a game has to play on lesser equipment. cmx2 may make some of us determined to improve on cm

You think? This would surprise me. I played a lot of Steel Panthers, but the moment I loaded CMBO, the Steel Panthers CD went into it's jewel case, and has yet to come out. CMBO has been put away since CMBB showed up. CMBB survives since CMAK is only marginally better, and covers different fronts.

It has been the same for me across genre in computer games. IL-2 replaced other flight sims, etc...

As far as how another company tops the CM series? They would have to do the same type of things that BFC has done. Attention to detail, realism, gameplay not sacrificed for eye candy.

Subject: LOL - Cesspool thinks they hurt me? -

You may have knocked out a fair chunk of my population, but really, you never came close to knocking me out of play. In fact, I was in a Palace, was an archduke, and had 2400 prestige at the end of the game before I went through all of it to destroy Yorick's top two. Don't kid yourself into thinking you really put me out of action, because you didn't - Warpig did more damage in 2 turns to me than you guys did over an entire week period.

You know you put a knee to the fork when the guy brags/whines about it. </font>
  6. That is because, simply put, you are an IDIOT, Herr Peng. I may be a slow learner, but even I have learned to say away from the political/religious threads on the GF. Bad for the stomach you know.

Now as far as gay marriage goes, I am all for it. I mean really. Isn’t marriage supposed to be happy, and if not, why bother. Take my own marraige. I am rather happy with Mrs. Marlow, most of the time. At least those times she isn’t screaming at me. Mostly when she is asleep…

    oh …

    you mean GAY marriage.

I have a little secret to tell. As a card carrying member of the VRWC, I know I am supposed to be all bent out of shape over the idea of those who hit from the other side of the plate getting hitched. But truth be told, I really don’t give a RATS ass about it. I do, however, draw the line at people who have “wedding” ceremonies for their pedigree pooches. For them I support the death penalty.

  7. Has anyone mentioned the Johnson LMG that the Special Service Force used? Selective fire, side loading rifle caliber ammo, bipod, light.

Overall about the same as the FG42. Didn't make it into general usage either.

Marines used it and the semi-auto rifle version as well, but preferred the Garand, and replaced them ASAP. I heard stories (true?) that Marines stole M1s from Army troops in the Pacific to get rid of their Jonhsons before M1s were issued to the Marines in enough numbers.

Also, early versions of the BAR were selective fire.

FG 42 wasn't really anything new. Sorry.

Oh, and the LMG version also came with a pistol grip.

    Anywho, more on the Johnton

It was during the time of her brave torpedo attack that ROBERTS got a first-hand look at how the gallant destroyers of Taffy 3 were fairing.... "...about the time of the torpedo attack, the destroyer JOHNSTON came by us and I saw her for the last time. That picture is engraved in my memory...She had taken a terrific beating. Her bridge was battered and had been abandoned. Her foremast, a steel tubular mast...had been split from shellfire and then bent down over itself...the mast was doubled over on itself and dangling down with its radar swinging just like a pendulum.... It gave me a hurt feeling to look at it. Her searchlights had been knocked off. One torpedo mount was gone and her No. 3 gun had completely disappeared. As she went by...she was limping along at a pretty slow speed...I saw her Captain. He was a very big man with coal black hair...he was standing on the fantail conning his ship by calling down through an open scuttle hatch into the steering engine room. I can see him now. He was stripped to the waist and was covered with blood. His left hand was wrapped in a handkerchief...he wasn't over one hundred feet from us as he passed us on our starboard side...he turned a little and waved his hand at me. That's the last time I saw him because JOHNSTON was sunk, too, a few minutes after we were."

  9. Another for the thread. A little smaller than the last three I posted.

The USS Johnston. (My Great Grandpappy’s last name smile.gif )

A Fletcher class destroyer of 2300 tons (one twentieth the displacement of the big boys). Main guns are 5 x 5 inch and an assortment of AA. Carries torperdoes.

This scrappy little ship’s claim to fame was it’s prominent role in the battle off Samar (part of the Leyte Gulf campaign).

It was one of 5 destroyers and escorts to engage Admiral Kurita’s Center Force, consisting of four battleships, 8 cruisers, and a gaggle of destroyers.

The American ships were protecting the landing beaches and a number of light escort carriers, and did their duty by directly engaging the much heavier enemy fleet. The Johnston, and two other of the escorts was suck, but their efforts (along with those of the pilots from the carriers who attacked without anti-ship munitions) drove off the enemy fleet.

The Johnston’s skipper, Commander Ernest Evans, was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.

An account of the events can be found here.

I'd agree with this. Rather than a truely innovative design, it is basically a lighter, less accurate and less reliable equivalent of the BAR.
  11. I don’t usually post here, being one of those CMers that was lightly bashed in a thread here not too long ago. But I saw the title of WWII Warships pop up, and thought I’d take a look. I’ve three ships to share with the crowd. The first is my sentimental favorite. (note all pictures from www.hazegray.org, a great website)

The USS California. 32,300 tons. Main batteries 4 triple 14"/50cal, 14 single 5"/51cal. It actually had two torpedo tubes at one time or another.

    USS California

Sunk at Pearl Harbor by two bombs and two torpedoes. Raised in 1942 and put back into full service after refit in January 1944. Got some revenge by kicking IJN ass at Surigao Strait, 25 October 1944.

Number 2 on the list is the reason the Germans got off easy fighting the Brits in 1941. Roughly contemporary with the Bismarck an Tirpitz, and disputing the claim that the Jerry BBs were “more than a match for any other single BB” are the South Dakota class.

37,970 tons and a main battery of 3 triple 16"/45cal would have easily given Hitler’s heavies a run for their money.

    Massachusetts in wartime service

    and today as a museum

And finally, the crown jewels of the battleship world, the Iowa class.

48,000 tons of fighting steel, with 9 16”/50 cal, guns, perhaps the best battleship guns ever mounted. Combined with top notch armor, 33 knot speed, great secondary armament, and the worlds best fire direction, quite simply the best BBs ever floated.

The Iowa in WWII trim and with its late 80’s finery.

OK, they don't permit direct linking to images, so the BB page is here

Is this possible in CMBB? I did review the manual and FAQ and didn't find much -- my fault I'm sure. Are there an good books that people here use to understand the background behind these scenarios?Skip

There really isn't an order. My advice is to start small, since there are less units to control. "A Warm Place to Sleep" and "The Move Back" are two nice small battles that would probably be good as starters.

You didn't by chance try to use the "rotate" order, and use the "reverse" order instead. did you? I did that once and was rather unhappy with the results. Sounds like what may have happened from your discription.

For more information and tips on the game, try the FAQ thread that is at the top of the page.
