Try using a right click instead, then choosing "open link in new window." This assumes you are using the common computer type and software of course. ;)

  2. Uptown got it's hustlers

    The Bowery got it's bums

And 42nd street got big Jim Walker

He's a pool shootin' son of a gun

Ya, he's big and dumb as a man can come

But stronger than a country hoss

And when the bad folks all get together at night

You know they all call big Jim boss

And they say, `You don't tug on Supermans' cape

You don't spit into the wind

You don't pull the mask off the old Lone Ranger

And you don't mess around with Jim' Da, do, da, do...

Well out of south Alabama come a country boy

He said, `Looking for a man named Jim

I am a pool shootin' boy, my name is Will Macoy

But down home they call me Slim

And I'm looking for the king of 42nd street

He's driving a drop top Cadillac

Last week he took all my money, and it may sound funny

But I've come to get my money back'

And everybody say Jack, `You don't tug on Supermans' cape

You don't spit into the wind

You don't pull the mask off the old Lone Ranger

And you don't mess around with Jim' Da, do, da, do...

Well a hush fell over the pool room

When Jim he come boppin' off the street

And when the cuttin' was done

The only part that wasn't bloody was the soles of the big man's feet

And he was cut in 'bout a hundred places

And he was shot in a couple more

And you better believe the song took on a different story

When big Jim hit the floor

You don't tug on Supermans' cape

You don't spit into the wind

You don't pull the mask off the old Lone Ranger

And you don't mess around with Slim Da, do, da, do...

You don't spit into the wind

You don't pull the mask off the old Lone Ranger

And you don't mess around with Slim Da, do, da, do...

Ya, big Jim got his hat

    Find out where it's at

And not hustling people strange to you

Even if you got a two piece custom made pool cue

  3. If you don't have a Voodoo (the following is from the FAQ thread):

    Possibly the most asked question.

"On a Mac press Command + Shift + 3. A file will appear on your hard disk called Picture 1. Subsequent screenshots take subsequent numbers.

On a PC press Print Screen. This saves the screen to the clipboard. Then open Paint and use Ctrl + V to paste to a new document." -Big Ron

I'd add to the PC part that you don't have to paste the image into MS Paint. You can paste it into any program that allows it, like MS Word for example.

  4. Is it that you can't play CM with a GeForce, or that you can't play CM with a GeForce with FSAA enabled? Is it really hard to turn off the FSAA on these cards? Am I missing something obvious here? I am looking to buy a new video card in the near future. If I can't play CM with a GeForce then that card is out. If I can't play CM with a GeForce with FSAA enabled, no big deal.

What if you have a dynamic IP address, instead of a static one? Does the other fellow need to host then? Will that work? Is there any way to host if you have a dynamic IP address?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

As far as I know, a dynamic IP address just means that each time you connect you have a chance of getting any unused IP address from a range of IP addresses. It doesn't mean that your IP address is constantly changing during a typical CM game. Most people have dynamic IP addresses. So yes, you can certainly host if you have a dynamic IP address. If you had to stop playing for the day, and then start up on another day your IP address might change. But it doesn't matter, since CM will show you your new one and the other player has to type in the IP address again anyway (or approve the last one used) if you have to restart CM.

i said the person with the fastest connection because doesnt that help to download each turn faster from the host? from my observation when a faster computer hosts, the BIG turns go faster. please correct my logic if im incorrect (it wouldnt be the first time).<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong here. I'm pretty sure that CM determines which player has the faster computer. The faster computer will then be the one used to "number crunch" the turn. I think being the "host" just means that you are the one to set up the parameters. Once the game is underway the faster computer will be the one that uploads each turn to the slower computer. Connection speed isn't a factor in this as far as I know.

What's the key against them, short of asking folks not to use them?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

There isn't really a key against them, that's why you ask folks not to use them! Infantry works against them, but a good player wouldn't let your infantry close to them. The AA trucks are very poorly modeled and that is the reason these things aren't allowed in most games by people that know better. It is almost a given that these things aren't allowed in tournament games, although I still make sure to state the obvious up front. Anybody that would use these in a game that knew full well the problem with them is someone I would never play again. It is pretty much cheating in my opinion.

  8. Chad, that was a good post. I have a couple of questions though.

    1. Why do you say the guy with the fastest connection should host?

    2. Why use winipcfg to get your IP address? The game gives it to you. I've hosted quite a few TCP/IP games and CM has never given me an incorrect IP address or anything.

I alse noticed it happens mostly on the later turns like 20 and up.

It is quite frustrating when you can't finnish your tcp/ip games.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

It happened to me on turn 3-5 during a 35 turn game. It was against Jhereg or Amanuensis in the last tournament. This bug hurts the worst when it happens during a tournament game because starting over isn't really a good option and you are very limited by the time you have to finish the game. Even during regular games it is just downright annoying! I'm glad to hear that BTS isn't ignoring the problem. Hopefully they will find the cause and a fix soon.

  10. Well damn, this bug just hit me AGAIN! I think it could be my opponents machine that is causing it though, because he said he hasn't been able to finish a game in months.

Madmatt, thanks for the update. I'm glad to hear you guys are still working on this as much as possible. It is just nice to get an update, even if there is no solution or progress.

  11. It would be fun to have this. I'd only want it though if both players had to agree to let people observe. This would open a HUGE security hole. Obviously is you can observe then you can tell the players what you see. Don't forget that we aren't just talking about the in-game chat function. You could be talking to one of the players outside the game in some chat room or ICQ for example. In fact, a player could log on with another computer and see his opponents every move all by himself!

I've found CM players to be the best group of on-line gamers ever. I wouldn't really worry about this stuff too much in regular gaming. I'd probably agree to let people watch. But I'd be very nervous about tourney games being watched. I've seen players that are normally friendly easy going people totally freak out when playing a tourney game. I think the temptation to cheat may be too much for some people.
