1. Damn! It's not the mouse driver: the game still freezes randomly. Dear Schrullenhaft, what information do you need exactly to determine what's wrong? I think we have very similar configurations. Help! This game is too good to stop playing it because of technical problems! :-(
2. I uninstalled my mouse/keyboard driver (I got a Logitech cordless mouse+keyboard), and it looks as if the problem is fixed. I haven't played enough yet to know if it's gone for good, though... By the way, my TNT2Ultra card's BIOS had to be upgraded to 2.05.13 (incompatibility with ASUS P2B-F because of power supply, otherwise). I also upgraded my ASUS BIOS to 10.13A. I'm using the latest card driver from the manufacturer (Guillemot).
3. Hi, I'm having a similar problem. In fact, my current TNT2 video card works just fine, except the game randomly crashes after a few minutes: screen is frozen. I tried lots of different things, used the latest drivers, directX, upgraded BIOS, etc. but it's still the same. Or is it that another device (mouse? screen?) has a problem? The video card works more or less otherwise, although I experienced the same problem with other 3D games and another display problem running 2D Battleground games. I'm under the impression the card is KIA and I might need to change it. I have a Celeron 466 on an ASUS P2B-F motherboard, 128MB RAM and a flat screen.
4. Unfortunately, I now got 91% resources free, but CM still crashes after a few seconds. It looks as if it only crashes when I enter 3D view. As long as I stay in top-down 2D view, it seems not to crash. Anyway...I will try to follow your instructions. I'm afraid it's related to BIOS as there is an incompatibility between my video card and the P2B-F motherboard unless I patch the BIOS (which I'm not sure my vendor did).
quote:
Originally posted by Schrullenhaft: That would probably be it - low resources. This can affect device drivers too. I would suggest closing Real Player and I'm not sure what Direct Scan is, but that would be another candidate. If you're expecting something over Yahoo Messanger then you could probably leave it open (if you're on the Net at the moment) otherwise I would suggest closing it also. Doing a Ctrl-Alt-Del should bring up a list of running apps (including those that have no icon to show that they are running). Some of these programs may be related to your video, printing, etc. So you may want to be picky with what you shut down.

5. I have 49% resources free when all background applications are running. This includes Yahoo Messenger, Real Player, Direct Scan.
6. Well, this time I simply closed all applications running in the background before starting CM and it worked... Will it last?
7. Thanks again for your precious help. Actually, my ethernet adapter card is on the same IRQ as my TNT2. And I seem to remember that prior to installing the card, I could play the CM demo without any problem... What should I do? By the way, yes, I have Liveware 3.0.
8. It still doesn't work. My config is now: motherboard ASUS P2B-F BIOS 4.51 PG detonator 6.31 driver Logitech cordless mouse SoundBlaster Live! Value sound card - I had no other video card on my system - I didn't overclock the card The symptoms have changed a bit: I still get random crashes. For instance, I just tried to load a PBEM file, and I could see the battlefield OK. But when I hit the play button, it crashed after 2 seconds: I had a sprite instead of my mouse pointer. The rest of the screen was OK but frozen. I had to reboot (couldn't leave the game with ALT-Q). Previously, I was using the Guillemot drivers, and the screen would randomly display strange sprites and horizontal lines. I could still move around the battlefield, though, and could leave the game with ALT-Q. Can someone help me?
quote:
Originally posted by Schrullenhaft: That's strange that it will work without problem 1 out of 5 times. Are you overclocking the video card at all (you'll need a utility to do this - the manufacturer's defaults should be fine) ? What drivers are you using; are they the ones from Guillemot or are they NVidia Reference drivers ? I haven't tried the latest Detonator 3 driver (6.31), but some of the earlier Detonator 3s actually decreased the performance of TNT2-based boards. This may have been fixed with the latest Detonator, but I'm not sure. NVidia's Detonator 2 series (5.32 - notice that there is a different driver for the AGP or PCI): http://www.nvidia.com/Products/OpenDrvDwn.nsf/windows?OpenView&Start=1&Count=30&Expa nd=1#1 Which ASUS board do you have ? The BIOS updates are separated by SLOT/SOCKET type typically. Did you have another video card installed in your system before your TNT2 ? There's a possiblity that some previous files or registry settings may still be in place and causing problems.

9. Thanks a lot for your help. I installed the new detonator driver (I was previously using the guillemot driver). I now need to test. My board is an ASUS P2B-F. Will keep you informed about the situation.
10. I'm getting crazy: the game runs OK 1 time out of 5. The rest of the time, I get horizontal white lines and white blocks on the 3D battlefield. I may need to flash my BIOS, but I have no idea how to do that... (the ASUS website is a mess) Or is it my mouse? I experienced similar problems with other 3D accelerated games (Ground Control). No problem with 2D graphics, though. pierremiranda@yahoo.com
