  1. An excellent reference to the time covered by CM the Normandy invasion
  2. To stay within what CM can do right now. How about the way Gen. Patton saw it ( at least the way he was portrayed in the movie ). Where just after Germany's surrender. The US and soviet forces slug it out. Get that Berlin wall thing settled 40 years early.
  3. It breaks down like this the 90mm gun of the M 36 will with an AP round penetrate. 149 mm with 0 armor slope 115 mm with 30 degrees of armor slope 65 mm with 60 degrees of armor slope The King Tiger ( Pz VIB ) has 185 mm of front turret armor with a 10 degree slope. The upper hull has 150 mm with 50 degree slope. The lower hull has 100 mm with 50 degree slope. Thus no armor penetration. these figures represent gun penetration out to 100 meters. I believe a slope of 60 degrees effectively doubles your armor thickness. Hope it helps [This message has been edited by Chris5110 (edited 11-24-2000).] [This message has been edited by Chris5110 (edited 11-24-2000).]
  4. I was reading the book Band Of Brothers and one of their officers was reviewing tactics after the Normandy invasion. His conclusion was to lay down a base of fire with MG and advance the infantry. Even if you don't suppress the target completely they will duck once in a while. It my not eliminate casualties but it will minimize them. Also get down on the same level as your soldiers you would be amazed at the cover that is available using the contour of the land. Do you deploy the machine guns and mortar teams to individual platoons ?. or use use them as their own element. And what was done historically?.
