BFC,
I have a question along those lines. I'm currently a US Serviceman stationed in Germany. A couple of companies (Amazon to name one) will not ship computer games via the APO AE system b/c we live in Europe. The APO AE system is actually American mail (ie all packages are gathered in NY before being sent to Europe). Will I be able to order via the internet a copy of the game and have it sent via APO AE?
For those wondering I'm stationed in Germany but I'm currently outside of it and will not be able to make it to a German store until the Dec time frame and I would like to play the game before them!
Thanks,
Scott

Just passing through when I spotted your thread.
Very good stuff here. I find it interesting because I know two of the individuals who you are citing. Peter Mansoor was my squadron commander in 1/10 Cav, 4ID. A decent commander and a good historian. I currently work with now LTC Pierson in the 1st ID. I've never read this Natural Killers piece. Thanks for bringing it up. It gives me a new perspective into an already interesting working relations ship.

Read the book before you bad mouth the "Hollywoodism". I haven't seen the movie but he fights the Germans for a more important reason then "the love of a woman"! Remember, not all all Italian soldiers went into German internment camps peacefully. Read the book..it's a good read.

DeadMarsh,
The US had a 4.2" mortar developed just before we entered the war. It fired a 25lb shell and had HE and WP for ammo. A good book to read about them is the Bloody Clash at Sadzot (William Breuer) which is about the 87th Mortar Bn at The Battle of the Buldge. The 87th had 4.2" mortars. Good Read.

Have these mods been reposted on the net? I've been out of the loop awhile and missed if they came back up. If so where can I find it now?
Thanks,

Wow, you guys have gone a ways from the original question....but I just walked in and want to fire an answer to Joe.
Currently, I'm still serving in the Ar.Cav
(1-10 CAV, 4ID) and it is one of the best military organizations in the world. One of the few places where you have scouts, tanks, aircraft, and indirect working hand in hand 100% of the time.
As for the UN, don't worry about it so much. I've been deployed four times and have seen various things. One of the things that effected me the most, was the time I was in Kuwait and a man who had been tortured by the Iraqis came up to me weeping and personally thanked me for being there to help protect their country. (and that was about a year ago.) The army is a good job, but be prepaired to be very flexible.
As for officers (being that I am one) it's all about the individual. Some are good/squared away, others are POS. Same for NCOs and EMs. It's all about personality and how well you work well with other.
Good Luck...
and now back to your debate.

Hey fellas,
I would love to see a modern CM, because it would be a great training tool for junior Army officers like myself. Question: Where is this old tankers board? Souns interesting and informative. I've been a M1A1 Tank Platoon leader and now I'm a scout platoon leader that is transitioning to M3A3s. This old Tankers board sound like it has some informative and useful stuff.
Thanks,
Scott

A few other good ones are:
FM 17-15 Tank Platoon
Fm 7-8 Inf. Platoon
FM 17-95 Scout Platoon
And lastly FM 17-97 Cav Troop
These provide basic fundimentals everything else is reading and experience.

Aberdeen is prob. the best. However, most of the posts I've been on have decent museums. Here at Fort Hood both 4ID and 1st Cav have their museums. They are really good for US equipment (WWII-Present)and Russian/Iraqi stuff.

MJ:
There is also snother option. Go to college using the ROTC program. They will help you pay for school, plus you only have a commitment of 4 years. I'm a Armor officer for a Div. Cav Squadron. I've been both a Tank Platoon Leader and a Scout Platoon Leader. I've also been deployed 4 times in 3 years. Make sure you really know what you want to do. ROTC allows you to do the school upfront, while enlisting allows you to do school at the end. Either course is worth while, just figure out what your goals (nearterm and long term) are and set the course that's right for you. Anway, Good Luck!
