  1. Im starved for some Pacific action. The only place to get it is "Rising Sun". I know it wont happen in CM2, as the main focus will unundoubtably Eorope. But it would be nice to maybe add a few extra options to the QB's. Such as tropical style random map, Marine units, Japanese units. I know the Armor battles were few, and nothing on the scale of Eorope. But the Infantry battles were close and brutal. weapons used in the pacific to great effect would have been all but useless in Europe. one small example is the 1923-E2 Howitzer(75mm). It was small, and this made it Pactical for this kind of warfare. Or theres the early model Flame Shermon tank. There would be plenty of trench, and bunker killing as well. The pacific war is rarely covered in "Good" wargames. I know someday this will change.

  2. On my very 1st PBEM, I encountered the map edge flank movement by my opponent. I dont really mind it as yet. I was very lucky to have placed most of my Armor (3 Light tanks, 1 med tank, 2-50 cal half tracks, and a greyhound all in line facing the crest of the hill. I had them in position out of sight. on turn 2, 6 German half tracks w/troops came over the crest directly in front of my staging area, on the extream left edge. I took out 5 tracks, and the last one backed down the opposite side of the hill (all in that one turn). I lost nothing. But had I not been staging in that area...It could have been bad news for me. It was all luck, im not boasting in anyway. Ill save that for later. wink.gif

  3. I was sitting here thinking about the night missions. Dont you think it would be neat to have "Spectacular Lighting". What I mean is, when their are explosion's in the game. From say artillery, or mortrs, whatever it is. The light would light up the ground and objects (tanks, buildings, troops, ect near by, and also cast short lived shadows from said objects. Just picture a 60 sec round with 105's screeming into a small town. The effect would not be far from a doz or so giant flash bubs going of around town, along with the wonderful dabris flying about. biggrin.gif

Im getting goose bumps. Well of course i have no idea how hard this would be actully do in CM2 wink.gif but it would be really neat stuff.

  4. Rattus, The Marine corps developed the art of CAS in the pacific, and were the 1st to place Pilots on the ground with the grunts as spotters. This worked beautifully and helped speed the doctrine of CAS. there are reports of US Army units fighting in the Pacific that were amazed at the accuracy of the Marine Air. While there was CAS in Europe, it was not as effective. For what its worth.

  8. It came! I ordered it on Saturday afternoon (must have just snuck in my order before the hords were alerted). Anyway, I have it in my sweaty hands and wanted to say thanks to BTS for getting the game out so fast. Here's a big smile.gif for ya. uhhum.. I'm undefeated vs the AI (only 3 demo games) 2 wins, and one draw. So I figure, after a few days of beating on the AI, I'll have built up the misguided idea that I can hold my own vs an Evil, Vile, and utterly sadistic, carbon-based life form. Thanks again BTS for the great game and I look forward to some fun pbem win or lose.

  9. Well... I think i may have passed a mile stone here. I was 20 some turns into the 2nd mission on the demo. I had both my 105, and 81mm Morter spotters bringing every thing thy had into "Plumville" i think it was called. Also had a small 60 mm going too.

After watching in awe 3 or 4 times from diff engles i went and dragged the Wife down to my little hole to see the action. in the past when i've done this too mny times to count, She says somthing like..."Huh, thy all look the same to me. I dont see what you get out of these games". Well... after watching the little movie of "Plumville" getting blasted she wanted to see it again, then from another angle. i was loving it. Then she said it. "Wow, that is really amazing." (She continues) "Its like watching a WW2 movie" (This is when i decided to mention i bought the game.) It not as cute as those lovable little people, but for me it was a mile stone. smile.gif

  10. I guess i should just say Ditto's.

But MY GAWD i just played the Demo for the 1st time. (I ordered the game 1 day ago)

How did i live without this product?

This has got to be the best Sqd level Computer wargame i have ever played.

I can see i'll be in the doghouse when the full game gets here. Thank you BTG for this game! Most likely the best money i've spent on a piece of softwar to date.

    WEEEEEEEEEEE! :-]

  11. I would even go so far as to say that the South had far superior commanders and troops than the North.

the above line taken from An earlier post from NCrawler.

Im not missing the point of the main topic here. With this many replys there is bound to be some side discussions.

I cant disagree the south had better commandrs early and mid Civil war. But as far as troops go, I have to disagree. The southern troops had the bennifit of surving under commanders who for the most part, knew how to use them. This directly effected the troop moral. Gen speaking I feel troop quality was very close if not even. The big factor were poor northern commanders.
