1. Thank you for producing good games.

Thank you for your great customer support.

    Thank you for having integrity.

Thank you for publishing games for a programmer like Hubert.

I ordered the bundle pack today and actually a second copy of CMBO. I think that you are the no 1 company in wargaming today and hope to see more products from you.

I took part in the Meta Campaign of CMBO, which was possible to do partly because of your attitiude towards your community. Hubert has continued in the same spirit as BTS.

And, Hubert, we are eagerly awaiting to get news on your next project.

    Hubert

Well, I would think that this is not as big of a problem as it is when a person is redoing the turn 15 times in order to get an advance that shifts the balance.

I don't really see the benefit of replaying the turn based on obtained tech level. I could just as well use the same argument to replay my next turn several times.

Cheating in getting tech levels affects all subsequent turns and will eventually cause the game to become obsolete faster. People will only play with people they know and ladder games will be infected with, "you cheated this and that."

You have done a great job Hubert and I appreciate your design decisions. I am also a programmer and understand what you are going through. You have made wise decisions in avoiding feature creeps.

However, I think that this change is something worth looking into. Your game will last longer, trust me.

Hope this game gives you reward for all the work you put into it. I bought the game mainly to support you as a starting game developer, but I have to admit that it has hooked me in playing PBEM because it is so fast. However, when people cheat against me, I feel it is a waste of time to play...

This is something that annoys me. To get lvl 5 Pz until 1941, your opponent must have been extremely lucky or he just restarted the turn several times. It is annoying that this is possible to do.

I feel it is a waste of time starting a game just to find out that your opponent gets research levels out of the ordinary.

Hubert, Research should be calculated at the en of one's turn but the result should only show up at the beginning of the next turn. This way no one can cheat. And I'll promise the game will live longer because of this.

    My 2 cents

I agree as much credit as any other soldier in the war. We should never forget the sacrifice that the common people of Russia had to make, against the Nazis and their own.

  6.
quote:
Originally posted by Hannibal:

...new books that are coming out give the russian...

Is this some sort of pride that has been opressed since tha war?

I too think the Russians should have the credit they deserve. I am not in any way opposed or hostile to Russia BUT the credit that I miss the most has not been dealt with properly I think.

Russians of today should not only look at what they achieved against the evil Nazis but also what they did not achieve against their own regime.

A reason for me not to over pour glory on the russians is simply because of what their regime did to millions of people of their own and others before, during and after the war. Beeing one of the victors and of course having nuclear weapons has contributed to tha fact that Russia has by no means dealt with the history that they want to forget.

Fairness is what´s missing in this world and being able to admit and deal with the past is a big credit that Russia unfortunately do not deserve, yet. I do however acknowledge the fact that Russia contributed the most in manpower, one reason because their homecountry was invaded and they had no choice. Had Germany not attacked Russia and instead concentrated on the UK and its evil concentration camps, I doubt that Russia would have intervened.

But that is of course purely speculations...

  7. Anyone feel that tank penetration with Schrecks, PIAT and Bazooka rendering no effect has increased with the last patch?

It has occured at least once in the majority of the games I have played. Target distance has been between 50-150 m.

I strongly feel that this occurance has increased with the latest patch - do you?

Agree completely.

Maybe I´ll have the privilege to play a Fin in the RD Tourney, Jarmo for example...if he makes it to the 3rd round that is. smile.gif

Mattias, what the h***, are you actually saying that we do not beleive in our King? You are wrong man, Silvia would cry if she heard you frown.gif. In the event of war, which is highly unlikely thank god, our King is the only one I´ll fight for. Forget the politicians cause they´ll only care about themselves anyway.

I think you are right about the rest though. smile.gif

As for the Finns, who usually seem to be quite, I think we will form a group sooner or later to teach them a lesson. To avoid any misunderstanding I personally find the Finns to have been the most outstanding soldiers of WWII, without any doubt. Saying that, I don´t think that they will be as tough in CM. smile.gif

  10.
quote:
... the Panther is generaly considered by most to be a rare tank many still consider, useing them in PBEM's as ahistorical. Yet in reality the Panther was almost numericly equal to the PzKpfw IV, in the West.

    Regards, John Waters

Yes you are right John, the Panther should not be considered rare but the problem I have is that in CM games the PzIV and the M4 are rare (at least in the games I´ve played), IMO probably because of the cost.

This could of course be settled with the opponent but that´s not the most exciting way. I wouldn´t want BTS to spend any time on this but maybe as I think Steve pointed out there will/might be an optional rule that regulates these kind of things in CM2. Did I say it was going to be optional? wink.gif

So, maybe I just wanted to have something to complain about...

  11. Sorry if I repeat anything that´s been discussed but after a discussion with several other CM gamers I wanted to express our thoughts.

Does any of you feel that the tactics used, partly because of the unit cost, does not reflect the historical battlefield?

Of course you have! How many times do you see the PzIV, M4 and the other less fancy but historically heavily represented tanks?

Why? Because they are not worth the bucks. Knowing that many of you think this is baloney and will ruin the fun some of us really think that the above tanks should be a LOT cheaper, say 100 for the PzIV and 90 for the M4. IMO this problem mostly occur in ME where the germans have have an advantage.

I would imagine that most of you find the Hetzer at 85 pts to be a bargain, if not the most price worth unit there is.

Rules between players are sometimes needed to reduce the FP but even with rules most people, including me, buy the larger guns cause they are worth the small extra cost. Should we have to agree with everyone that u cannot use that and I will not use that and so forth?

So, what is the general opinion besides using rules between players?

  12. Deutschland uber Alles?

You guys are just so unreal for beeing highly educated professionals. I get kind of offended by the statement from Slapdragon since I do like the German equipment from WWII more than I like the Allied. Does that take me into the club of DuA? I hope not.

Just a very unprofessional statement and I assume Slapdragon uses the expression just to make his point clearer, cause if not, I think he is out of line.

I´m not an expert in any way and I wont budge into the technical discussion but I´m quite convinced that if BTS would have left out the Gyros, not many people would have argued for it.

Pro-German arguments (or whatever you´d call it) does not make someone a member of Deutschland uber Alles. Maybe it is not clear to you, Slapdragon, but I think that especially John and Jeff are arguing for the sake of improving CM and not for the Deutschland uber Alles club.

CM is the best game of all, thanks BTS. I just point out that there are actually people who DO NOT favor any side in CM but still thinks that there are juste cause for this thread.

Something, that is, beyond a weak "I offer advice on completed work" rational. Sure, you can offer advice, and most people actually encourage advice from any interested parties, but your advice doesn't somehow give you a vested interest in the work, nor does it make you a co-creator.

    B]

Have you any idea of how much work it is to run a website like CMHQ?

Are you aware of that it is an obligation, towards visitors, for a webmaster to check everything he receives and decide whether it is appropriate to put it on the site?

Are you aware of that the people who create the mods doesn´t do it for money, they do it for YOU! and I´m quite sure that they are very happy that CMHQ exists so they can get some acknowledge for their work, even if Matt earns some money.

Since I can only judge you from your comments, I can´t help to think that you have very little experience of what it takes to run a website.

Get real, and don´t be so selfish. Without some payment to the people running a website it will "die" and in this case you will be pissed off that you can´t find a good official site for CM.

As for Matt´s comments on his site you like them or don´t like them. Just imagine how grand the personal touch of CMHQ would be without someone writing comments.

And Matt, keep up the good work!

  14. Dear Minnesota Joe,

I have read some of the posts but not all, excuse me if I repeat anything. I´m from Sweden, a very small counntry in Europe as you probably know.

Every Swede without any handicap has do to service. I did 15 months as a sergant, platoon leader, in the Military Police.

Sweden has a very long engagement in the U.N. peacekeeping forces, actually taking part in real combat operations in Kongo. I never personally took part in any operation though I did apply to go to Bosnia.

What connection do I have with Bosnia. None, whatsoever. Why did I want to go? Cause I like war zones? - No . Because as a fellow human beeing I feel that us living in prosperity have an obligation to help out. Even though I didn´t have a choice on whether or not to join the Swedish army, I did and is still prepared to go to war for Sweden even if that means going to Bosnia, Zimbabwe or anywhere else. I really hope you feel the same cause if you don´t I really don´t understand your purpose with joining the army.

As for the U.N. issue. U.N. is not well organized, as a matter of fact their organisation stinks. U.N. does not have any authority over the US military and never will have. The has a permanent place in the security council which allows them to VETO any decision, like Mr Clinton has today.

I agree that the US have been and are kind of miscredited for some actions they take but in general they are credited for most operations.

Why should US forces be sent "god knows where". Well, naturally because we are also sent "god knows where" AND think about it:

Would you rather go as a US soldier with US equipment or as a soldier from another nation?

Please, don´t be so selfish. I really apprecite that you write this and question your feelings about it but always remember that there are soldiers from small countries with worse equipment that also quietly ask why in gods name they have been sent to a place like that?

Good luck in the army and make yourself proud by thinking that you actually have a great possibility of helping others.

  15. This thread is going out of line, however I do agree with Mark IV. Even comparing the Third Reich with the Roman Empire is just a lot of bull.

And Lindan, I have some similar experience (I´m half German) though more distant than you.

And Henri, I do agree with you in some of your reasoning about the German soldier but folks we´re all humans, no one can ever argue (and probably isn´t) that the Germans were better soldiers just because they are Germans, in other words good soldiers by special genetics.

Training, indoctrination and experience/motivation. Don´t forget that Reichswehr consisting of 100000 man did have a lot of time and limited resources to train, try new strategies and become the backbone of the German army.

Stop this bull thread or get back to what the thread was all about, though this IS a CM forum not a political one.

Personally I think the forum is getting worse by the day. Didn´t it all start as a CM forum?
