1. Hi Maximus, Remember Me? I remember you.
quote:
How has CM affected my alcohol consumption? It hasn't affected it a bit. I'm still as sober now as I was before the game was released.

Congratulations on your sobriety. I am told it is a very tough accomplishment.
quote:
Maybe that's why I kick everyone's ass.

Perhaps it is. Perhaps it is not.
quote:
One tends to react quicker when one's sober.

Absolutely true. But quicker reaction time matters in a non-Real-Time Simulation because of...? (please explain your reasoning to the "drunks")
quote:
These threads like this are totally stupid.

A rather humorous and hypocritical comment from someone who initially became known on the forum for lambasting people about spelling mistakes.
quote:
Maybe if you all would lay off the booz, then you wouldn't be complaining about stupid little **** when you get beat.

Funny how many contributors to the threads about the virtues of distilled spirits such as fiftymicrolitres, Mark IV, Hakko Ichiu, Berlichtingen and Germanboy don't seem to be found whining about "stupid little ****" happening to them when they lose. It's actually difficult to find instances of them losing. Clearly they must not have played any games against someone of your caliber...
quote:
It's like trying to explain to an officer that that STOP sign just jumped out in front of me as I neared the intersection.

Please explain the pertinence of this comment to some of the readers who are less erudite than you.
quote:
And just for the record, I'm well past the legal drinking age in the US. I just choose to not be stoned out of my mind when I try to concentrate on kicking someone's ass on the cyber battlefield.

For someone of your age, you seem to have some difficulty seeing a difference between the enjoyment of playing CMBO with the complement of a finely-crafted drink and playing CMBO while in a state of complete inibriation. While some distillates (and consumers of distillates as MadMatt will surely attest to) are truly dreadful, others are excellent examples of some of the more refined things that life has to offer. 2. Preacher, Good eye. It's difficult to proof a long post in this small little box. Corrections noted and made. Thanks. Pat, Indeed you are correct, as the spelling of Armour with a U was left alone. But, there has been a post by this individual about living in the US, hence the "s". And your parents will get a call from the principal for your foul language.
 3. Hello class! I am Spelling Bee, your substitute teacher today. I have come to notice two people (two identities, one person) chronically complaining about poor spelling on the CM board. After a short search, I have found some good examples that we can learn from. We shall read the quotes from the board, and then correct the spelling errors in the quotes. I shall begin our exercise with the following complaints about poor spelling: From Maximus: Obnoxious Line #1 - complains about spelling, yet has spelling errors in his own post.
quote:
Well, since Rob/1's last thread got closed up. I'll just ask it here. Wasn't his spelling brought up before? Didn't OB&G complain about his spelling only to be chastized about it? I hate to say this, but it seems OB&G was right. And if I were OB&G (which I'm not, thank you!) I think I'd say, "I told you so."

Note - the word Chastised has no "Z" in it. Obnoxious Line #2 - complains about spelling
quote:
Sooner or later, bad spelling will bite you in the ass.

Obnoxious Line #3 - complains about spelling:
quote:
Robert/1, once again, go back to school and learn how to spell. Sheesh! I mean there are misspellings on this board all the time, but none and just plain dumb as yours.

Obnoxious Line #4 - more complaints about spelling:
quote:
I wouldn't be so harsh, but look at what he is misspelling... ex."conferming".."sertain"..."seares"

This time as OB'G Obnoxious Line #5 - Bitch about spelling:
quote:
Com'on dude, lets get with the program in your spelling.

This collection of evidence cleary shows a habit of posting to criticize spelling errors. What we will do today is show a collection of critical posts by this person, showing his own spelling errors. Then, we shall show the necessary corrections. Now for some of the better posts by the self-proclaimed spelling monitor:
quote:
But it is true, whether you like it or not. As with wargames or any strategy game, how can you use sound tactics when you're constantly trying to scoll around the board issueing orders to units when the units should already know what to do anyway?

Notes - scroll has an "r" in it. "Issuing" has no "e"
quote:
I just played a PBEM game of CE with my buddy and Panzerfausts took out three of my Shermans, so definately they have got that Panzerfaust thing fixed.

Note - definitely is not spelled with an "a"
quote:
Anybody planning on doing any Kelly's Hereos-based scenarios.

Note - "Hereos" we'll assume this is a typo
quote:
If you are trying to flush out defenders in foxholes and have some nearby infantry ready for an assualt, bombard the enemy with mortars or something right as you are getting ready to assault. And try and time the assualt so they don't quite get into the barrage before the turn ends.

Note - Assault is "ault", not "ualt"
quote:
What kind of explosions do you want? Bit-maped, simulator-type explosions?

Note - Mapped is spelled with two p's.
quote:
Really you got to look at the absolute HUGE number of ploygons being used in any given scenario.

Note - we'll assume polygon is a typo.
quote:
So therefor I beg you to find a game that offers such a high polygon count that maintains a reasonable frame rate count. The reason their hasn't been a true 3D battlefield wragame will now, is that there hasn't been the hardware to handle it.

Notes - therefore ends with an "e", their is spelled "there" unless possessive, which this example is not, "wragame" is assumed to be a typo
quote:
CM will then open the file and playing commenses.

Note - Commences is spelled with a "c".
quote:
Well, that's a question I've been wandering about myself.

Note - Wondering about is spelled with an "o"
quote:
My buddy seemed to like it, especially CC2, but I just could never get into it for the fore-mentioned reasons.

Note - fore-mentioned should be "aforementioned", without a hyphen.
quote:
Well, for a little background, one of the pursueing officers was a tanker in Desert Storm, so he was aware of how to deal with the situation.

Note - "pursuing" is not spelled with an "e"
quote:
However, the command bonuses between all three levels of HQs AREN'T accumulative.

Note - accumulative is used improperly. This should be "cumulative".
quote:
As far as succession being legal according to the Constitution, that's the first I've heard of it.

Note - I'm sure you mean "secession", the act of seceding, not succession, else having children would be illegal.
quote:
Actually I made the comment in jist of an incident in Market Garden where an American Airborne Division was waiting for XXX Corps, and an American commander rode back in a jeep and found XXX Corps hangin' out in a village sippin' tea with the locals.

Note - Jist - do you mean "jest", as in making humor, or "gist", as in the main idea here? "Jist" is not a word. Well, class, that brings today's lesson to a close. And what did we learn? Everyone makes spelling mistakes. It's not fun to be on the receiving end of posts that mock poor spelling. Lastly, we learned that people who live in glass houses should not throw stones. Have a good day, and I hope to not see you all again soon. Spelling Bee [This message has been edited by Spelling Bee (edited 06-22-2000).]
