1. Also a feature that should be a MUST-have is a Jump Map that shows your units and known enemy units as

dots in a top-down miniature map at the bottom of the screen. *It's hard to find your troops sometimes!*

    ---

If you use view 6 or 7 (or 8 for big battles) and turn bases on (shift-B) you will get the feature you are looking for.

Earlier in the development textures were used for explosions and tanks firing. I forget what the decision was, but either they chewed up too much VRAM (there can be *a lot* or explosions (3 Arty FOs and 3 AFVs smile.gif ) or that they were just bad looking. This has been considered and I think the way it is now is going to stay. If anyone knows better than me...

Welcome to the crew (and the addiction wink.gif )

  2. IMHO:

If no one downloadt the game, then it will be removed from the server and replaced with something more popular. Every person who pulls it keeps it there for longer and thus hurts Steve and Charles. Every person who does not download it helps get it off the server.

  3. Would it be possible for BTS to release a special college edition of CM? It would have a built in timer so that after something like 10 hours straight it would throw up a screen saying: "Go study. The Germans can Wait" and not let you play again until you convinced it you had done some work? wink.gif

This would mitigate (a little) the damage the full version will do to my GPA. frown.gif

  4.
quote:
But the individual pieces of said shell will have an awful lot of momentum, and will want to continue moving in the same direction (BonusQuestion: which law of motion is this?)

Well, that would be the conservation of momentum (which is really just conservation of mass and energy) Newton's first: Objects in motion will stay in motion (barring outside forces acting on them - like armor or the ground...)

  5. I think it would be hard to line the streets with trees because individual trees are not simulated... However, in riesberg if you look carefully on the side of the map with the grid of little buildings you can see that the road is layed over scattered trees. I think this is probably the best way to simulate tree lining. Also, I can vouch for (parts of) Italy having tree lined streets and roads. It is pretty common from what I saw.

  6. IIRC it was decided that this was too much command and control for your troops and orders like that couldn't be issued in battlefield situations. As a workaround, you can use the movement penalty for starting turns:

Order one waypoint the unit wont finish.

Next turn order another. It will pause between them. I think this is what is happening with the AI!

  7. I have noticed something: The German tanks are much better against other tanks than the US tanks. However, this is offset by the fact that the US tanks absolutely *ruin* infantry. Is this a function of some overall difference in tank doctrine or just the luck of the units in the beta demo? Do the Germans have any competent anti-infantry tanks?

As the Americans my strategy is usually: Hiden until (Almost) all German heavy AT is gone. Destroy the German army with my shermans supported by infantry.

This never works as the Germans because they don't have any tank of Sherman caliber agains t infantry frown.gif Is there a good German infantry killer in the wings?

  8. In a game of Riesberg I had the sharpshooter fire at a W+ which buttoned and did not move for the rest of the game. I would think that this meant that the TC was hit, but the sharpshooter had no kills registered. I am curious as to how FOW applies to sharpshooters. Presumeably with a scoped rifle you would have much better LOS and info on whatever you target.

I would hardly say "everthing has halted". As to the manual, it is important for customers who have not lived on this board for months to have some foundation. Lack of a good manual would really hurt Steve and Charles sales = no CM2,3,4,5,6,7,8... And they wouldn't be as well rewarded for CM1.

Patience everyone. The world isn't ending anytime soon (As far as you know...)

Also, Capt. before you trash other peoples sites, put yours up on the line for us to see. Is Colin's site the supreme pinnacle of web design? Probably not. Is is a good site that adds to the CM community? Yes. That is what matters.

  10. You know you have been playing the game too long when you are setting off fireworks for new years, see a small rise and think: "Man, I could sit a StuG or two behind that and take out a company of Shermans!" and "Hmm... I could use the woods on the left for an infantry flaniking move to get a zook in position to clear out the armor behind that rise."

  11. A bizzare occurrance:

While playing Riesberg and running a W+ around town as fast as possible with no support it was immobilized and shocked by an 88. The 88 then turn around and tried to run away. The crew did not abandon the gun, they rotated the gun to not face the sherman and started crawling in place. Very odd behavior.

The next time two tanks went flying through town. One of them was shocked and immobilized, the other shocked and *ran into* the 88. Instead of say, shooting the sherman at a range of 0 meters, the 88 again turned around and tried to run away.

Is this bizzare behavior a Tac AI thing that has since been fixed or is it an indication of the extent to which the crews of 88 are chicken whenever a Sherman gets within 50 metres?
