(this would be played out with a 4 sieded die - or with the electronic die smile.gif ) When becoming green, one ability would be gone (again calculate with a die...) in the cause of becoming veteran, two more abilitiy-points would be added to the leader (4 sided die). In the crack level again two more points.

    Heya Uhu,

there has been proposals for this to be implemented in the rules. It is as subjective and as controversial that it can get. I believe there someone is trying them out but in principle it is not against logic that some leader qualities could improve with experience.

Regarding the units upgrade: unsupported. There exist though a workaround. If you should decide to upgrade a units you may report that to BiltAid starting a custom campaign and entering the new upgraded unit in your Battlw Group.

Sorry I am lost. What are we talking about, which upgrade???

    General comments:

Biltaid covers fully BCR rules vs 2.2 41 South.

Anything beyond is not covered, anything out of BCR vs 2.2 41 South is not covered. Knowledge of the rules IS given for granted.

The Readme of BiltAid (within the distribution) should explain that. Anyway, the main panel has at the bottom a split-bar. If you click on it and use it to split the window BiltAid reveals the current status of your Battle Group and attached units.

In CMBB you enter the experience level for every unit in the Editor for your units (where you may also set the ammo level and names, if you want to keep the same names in every battle).

As a general comment: if you know the rules then what BiltAid does will not be a mistery. It simply performs the calculations for you per the rules.

Casualties are takein into account by the rules (hence by BiltAid) to compute experience of the team after the battle. Then the team is fully replenished unless there has been an immediate counetrattack or an emergency reorganization. In that case rules (hence BiltAid) say that you have to reorganize troops so to have fully manned teams. This way some team will have 0 men left (you have not received replacements) hence their number will be 0 men.

This units are to be marched off the map at turn one in order to incur into the moral penalty.

BiltAid is no replacement to *knowing* the rules and *knowing* what should happen, it is a replacement to carrying out all calculations and do the BattleGroup bookkeeping.

In my case - but I am experienced - it takes me less than 5 minutes from the end of a battle to get ready for the next one. I use BiltAid on the laptop so I quickly go in the AAR map through all my units, enter battle results, advance the battle in BiltAid, and generate the next battle parameters.

Then I load the map, buy my Battle Group, modify my units experience in the Editor and start the new battle.

If you like paper and pen and don't mind the time spent there you might disregard BiltAid. If what interests you is fighting the next battle as quickly as possible, knowing that rules computations are carried out for you go with the BiltAid but - again - know the rules first.

    Huh?

Have you used BiltAid already? Paperwork = ZERO.

You do not need to use the paper sheets at all.

BiltAid does all the calculation based on the AAR. It asks you values, updates your BattleGroup, generates new battle (and readjust units if need), the whole enchilada.

If not BiltAid, you tried enchilada already, did you? :D

I think I updated to the latest version of Biltaid right before this happened. Is there a problem when updating the version? Help!

    Thanks,

Nope, never seen this. you must have somehow a corrupted saved battle. COuld you try re-issuing the values from battle 12 and create a new battle 13

    In the next version ;)

Currently you may access experience on a per unit base whih is what you need to use the CMBB Editor to micromanage units experience.

Indeed. If you read from Apple Java 1.4.1 Known issues the reason is there.

    http://developer.apple.com/techpubs/macosx/ReleaseNotes/java141/index.html

The Java Print Service API available in the javax.print.* packages is not functional. This is what BiltAid uses.

If not solved by Apple in the next release (Panther, OS X 10.3) then we will move to Java 2 printing API available in java.awt.print which is fully functional.

    Problems:

Biltong's rule requires to write down units that fled into off-map.

Unfortunately, Sorge can't handle these units.

Because it is impossible to capture offmap units.

That and the fact that even after collecting the screenshots for every single unit is not enough :-{ hence neither going to speed up nor automate the task of collecting all required information.

    Nice idea though.

You capture screenshots and run the Sorge.bat only. You get a Sorge.csv.

To understand better. First you gather all units' screencaptures for their kill info and THEN you use Sorge?

I initially thought it could have been re-used for BiltAid (if re-written in Java that is) but if that is the procedure I believe then not.

    Too bad

  10. Guestimated OPFOR size was 1000... on 40% ammo from start, I will have problems topping Cmdr. Seahawk - but Victory level with only one flag (1/17th) is around 16%:2%, and I have 30 turns to go. If loss ratio stays with both sides 3 times the losses that's 30:6, 2 big and one other small flag captured will amount to 30:34... that's 60:40. If all goes well my men will have breakfast in the mayor's house, drink his champagne, smoke his cigars, and maybe there is even one of his bunnies around

    Gruß

    Joachim

    Joachim,

take your time, do not hurry, and you'll make it through jsut nicely. In my case I did not witness a major counterattack. I mostly went through the middle and the left end side of the city. I actually left behind all righ little flags but the one.

They clustered mostly in the park and buildings line in front of Mayor house (center of map). AI tried to stop all my advance in the middle. We stayed there for quite sometime.

Toward the end they tried to recapture two flags but I had at that time an overwhelming force. They have been hammered.

Some tried to stop my advance on the left and prevent crossing the bridge toward Mayot House island but failed miserably.

All in all a scary start: nothing was moving through, breakthrough started around turn 20+, then cautious advance and wiping the floor :D of Russkies.

At the very last moments I started to see some units (around 8~10) concentrating toward the upper right big flag (which I had covered with 6 Stugs and 1 full platoon) but they run out of time (I guess).

Anyway, I would like to put in a request for the new version of Biltaid that you are working on. Could you have Biltaid calculate the experience level of the battle group infantry company as a whole. Now that I've played a couple of battles and had casualties and replacements, I need to follow the direction in Note 12 of BCR to get the average infantry company experience. It seems that since Biltaid has all that info, each unit and its experience, that it could calculate the average experience setting that is needed in the Real Battle QB. I know it's a small thing, but it would help speed up the process of figuring out what experience level to use.

It is computed per internal calculation. So it might be presented to the user as well smile.gif

I have another question for you as well. This is the first battle where I've had initial casualties in my forces (I've been lucky so far, I guess) and I've noticed that there have been a couple of units from my battle group infantry company that have been eliminated (as well as having 1 or 2 casualties in the remaining ones). So my question to you is: Does Biltaid handle the whole units eliminated due to casualty settings per Note 5 of BCR?

:( I am sorry to say that BiltAid does not take into account Note 5 (yet). That has to be hand-computed. It is a hassle.

Anyway, these days Seba is going through the whole BiltAid and it will be refactored to allow for easier changes and/or additions to the rules. The next version will be beaming all over BCR community. :D

    Cheers,

    Jeff

  12. I agree with Biltong Jig: great battle.

Incidentally I just finished the Kiev Urban Chaos: Major Victory. My forces are now

    PzIII & IV : veteran

    2 Green HQ (9 pts)

    3 Green Squads (9)

    3 Veterans (CO +HMG HQ + mortar)

    all others comfortably Regular.

Urban Chaos has been scary till turn 25, after that I broke through and reached and controlled the bridges.

My CO sits in the Mayor House: office with a view :D

I think that it would be simplier if 5b has the same sequence that 5a from the end and changed option for die 1-2 and 3-4.

Before anyone answer - of course - Seba question has an implication for code development in that the common sequence might be re-used and then specialize for weather-a/b (and more if needed), while with 'paper & pencil' the answer would be: so what ?!

    ;)

Anyway, this just to say: "I do not know why is that" :D

what is the name of the company you are supposed to start with?

I don't remember the actual Co name, but if your settings are German, Mech, Regular then it is the Co worth 406pts (I think it is about the 3rd line in the infantry column).

But I could be way out, as I'm typing from memory. </font>

Does this mean a boost for 'biltaid" ?

That is what "BiltAid is receiving a considerable boost" indeed means :D

Oke, now i understand the exp. stuff. There is also something missing i understand. Do i add bonus for a squad that knocks a mortar? Where?

    Nope. Nowhere.

Ah, totaly forgotten about the mortart. But they need contact (red line) with the Hq in qusetion, right?

    Right

ps: i have a bright idea. Maybe you would like to play this map againts me, while i do the russians smile.gif that could teach me

Can't do. Little time to play my own campaign these days :(

[...] Biggets trouble is to get those nasty (cheap-field 81mm/50mm)mortars in position to do something usefull :(

Remember: they do NOT need to have a LOS, only the HQ unit in range with them need that. You may keep the mortars well hidden and under cover.

    Oww, sorry. That's not exactly what i mean. I mean the sheet where you fill in the results for your single units. Anyway, it isn't there, but i see in the Excel-sheets why;
