  1. Of course you're correct, I entirely agree. It was dramatic improvements Soviet tactical skill which was used to negate German tactical skill from 1943 onwards. Soviet strategic mobility and operational skill merely ensured success over what was essentially a 19th century army with a few 20th century bits tacked on.
  2. Hi, I have some specific questions and a comment based on the gold demo v1.01. Hope some of you guys can spare the time from playing to comment. Do infantry "take cover" in arty barrages and are veteran troops likely to 'anticipate' the barrage in any way? Is this taking cover independant of the accumulation of suppression as a result of the barrage ie an action of the tacAI? Or is it only a result of suppression? I know that at the moment the infantry sometimes behave a little strangely in a barrage ie running around like headless chooks instead of eating the dirt. I know this has been discussed and is not quite what I am talking about. Do 105mm shellholes provide more cover than 81mm? ie larger shellhole better cover Are troops and crews more vulnerable when firing than when not? If not, why not? Therefore can you enforce 'taking cover' when receiving fire which is not worth returning by ordering them to 'hide'. Can you fire MGs on fixed lines by targetting area targets beyond your expected target zone? How sticky will such targetting be? ie will they readily disobey such an order if another target appears elsewhere? Comment Infantry don't seem to use terrain in the same way as tanks which seem to be pretty aware of the terrain elevations. When under fire infantry seem to head for the best material cover even when that is in clear LOS of the enemy and more distant from them (eg when it's a tank firing at them) when the best cover from that fire may only be a few metres away due to a fold in the ground. This is not always a bad thing but can be annoying sometimes. In the same vein I would say the absence of threat memory is the most significant disadvantage of the TacAI. Of course this would be bloody difficult to implement.
  3. Maximanus, Of course Monty was too gutless and wimpy to do something as brilliant as attack through the Hurtgen Forest. Positively Pattonesque, what?
