  1. This is the great thing - even if the movie DOESN'T fulfill our expectations, they will reprint the original book, but likely with a movie poster for a cover.

If its by William Craig, I think you can be sure it isn't one of those god awful 'novelizations' of a movie.

Not too long ago I bought an old paperback of Blade Runner by P.K. Dick. It had the movie poster on the cover, but the book was Dick's original novel - "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" which is substantially different than the film. (Still a good read, but more of a dark comedy than a thriller).

  2. Shame if its a hoax - I did enjoy the story of its history. The article I read had the same info as REXFORD - 3 were made, and 3 were destroyed pretty quickly.

So the story goes, Stalin was impressed by a pair of KVIIs that held off a wave of German tanks. He felt that a supertank would fare even better.

I must admit though, that this monster seems to go against the sound design principles of mid-to-late war Russian tank design.

  3. Its been said before, by myself and others - I think the secret is in the 'stories'.

Like the original X-Com, CM generates these little unexpected events that entirely put the player in the shoes of his men. When your lone Bazooka squad unexpectedly dispatches a Tiger, and then risks being over-run by infantry; when your Greyhound punches through enemy lines and drives like hell to avoid incoming fire; when your battered Hetzer survives the battle while the heavier German armour burns on the field...

CM just has so many wonderful moments that capture the terror and the heart-stopping action of combat.

And yes, the fist-person perspective obviously brings one much closer to the action.

  4. Sorry lad, I deleted the demo once I got the final version. Search the forum though for an alpha screenshot - it REALLY illustrates how far they've come.

The beta version was a big improvement; the biggest visual difference was that troops weren't modelled to run, so although their legs would move at a slow rate they would rapidly 'float' along the battlefield.

  5. Say, Von Shrad, I think there may be an error in your calculations - not that it'll change the fact that I lost round two... I just lost it worse.

If I'm reading it right, you have this:

    B1. Crossbar 16 vs ** Gaffertape 84 **

    B3. Gaffertape 46 vs ** Stuka 54 **

However, these scores are reversed, sir. CROSSBAR smoked me and I barely squeaked by STUKA.

    It should be:

    CROSSBAR 84 vs Gaffertape 16

    GAFFERTAPE 54 vs Stuka 46

  6. This really shouldn't happen at all - but I refer to the situation, not the AI reaction.

If you're racing scout units right into an area where there is likely to be an enemy tank then you shouldn't expect the AI to react 'realistically' to an unrealistic situation.

I certainly haven't read any accounts of a Greyhound or a Humber accidentally whacking into a manned German tank in combat. Scout units are capable of spotting enemy units from decent range - rushing them headlong into a built up or heavily forested area is only going to get them killed.
