1. Ralph D, Mccooper and Airborne,

Thanx all you guys for your input.

'British Army Handbook 1939-1945 - George Forty'

'Red Army Handbook 1939-1945 - Steven Zaloga'

'Us army handbook - George Forty'

These seem obvious choices smile.gif i'm gonna check them out.

'World War II Order of Battle by Shelby Stanton'

'From D-day to VE-day the British Soldier by Jean Bouchery vol 1 & 2'

I recon these are somewhat harder to find, i will see if my budget is able to handle these wink.gif.

'Battle of the Bulge by Danny Parker'

Looks like a great resource for Bulge scenario's.

    Thanx again all.

  2. Hi guys,

i noticed that while there is an abundance of material on german equipment and organisation, it is far harder to find on the allied troops.

I am looking for general information on TO&E's, standard weaponry, uniforms and kits, tactics, supply etc. etc.

Basically all you can find in the excellent 'handbook on german military forces; us army 1944'. I am looking for similar books on the american, british (&commonwhealth) and russian armies.

I've seen the 'reading list's but they don't give enough information on the content so i am not sure if those titles will provide what i am looking for.

So could anybody suggest such material and give a brief overview? All input is welcome.

    Thanx in advance, stefan.

  3. I was thinking maybe between every battle in an operation when the computer 'calculates' the chance of recovered vehicles returning for a battle it wrongly counts vehicles who don't as a new casualty.

    Come on guys (and girls),

with all the fluff about on this board nowadays this is a chance to discuss something substantial about the game and no-one cares ?

    Tss, bumping again.

  4. Bumbing.

I find this a bit annoying as it takes away from the 'after gloating' when you complete an operation.

    Quote from Hofbauer;

quote:
yes, a bug. A small statistical bug, and no wonder it was overlooked considering that the detailed after-battle debrief statistic I had always lobbied for was not really considered by the CM crowd nor BTS, there you have it, serves you all right. Now you not only have a debrief statistics screen that is, to phrase it carefully, somewhat on a diet (vehicle being anything from jeep to Königstiger), but its fugged, too.

    I'll second that

Let's hear some other opinions on this.

  5. He kwazydog i would like to take this opportunity to give and the other guys a well hearted pat on the back and some mumbled words o appreciation.

The amount of detail on the vehicle and uniform textures is just amazing. I spent a half hour just looking at them during a setup and generally feeling warm and fuzzy inside smile.gif.

Especcialy the tiger (both versions) and the M3's are just pieces of art.

  6. Welcome to the wonderful world of CM PraetorianXXI.

quote:
And i quote *150mm canon with a blast radius bigger than my room isnt able to kill a single trooper!!!* why is that..

I doubt that, the kill info from the gun crew gives the CONFIRMEND number of kills for the weapon. Fog of War remember. Select the unit you fired upon to get a better notion of casualties caused. And then again murphy could be watching and you are experiencing near misses.

quote:
also the troops are extremely sensitive to incoming fire.

As they should be, they only got one life smile.gif. Putting infantry in command radius of their platoon/comapny leaders should make them more 'heads strong'. Also don't MOVE infantry over large open spans of terrain, but make them RUN from cover to cover.

quote:
hey not to be a drag but some graphics have to be improved too!

It's not Quake III and was never ment to be. If you don't like the graphics you can edit the .bmp files yourself.

quote:
This game would be the best if it was 3d not sprites, thats all! !

Huh ? The only sprites are the trees, what do you mean?

  7. I just read your "i have to share this one' thread and now i know your sources.

My creditcard is already loudly protesting. wink.gif

Damn this CM is an expensive hobby. I have been a WWII/tank fan for many years now but i have doubled my little library on the subject since i stumbled on the Battlefront website.

  8.
quote:
GRTZ (What does that stand for?).

It's a abbreviation for greetings, has become a habbit to sign al my posts that way.

quote:
Don't forget to include the Wild Bill's Raiders BOOTS N' TRACKS Site in your observation section, please. I'd love to be there!

You're not there already confused.gif ? *Checking* Whoops, looks i really need to update that list. Thanks for the pointer. I see Moon's site is missing to.

quote:
All right, Stefan. Very nice web site. Your approach is different and very informative.

Thank you smile.gif ! Well with all those 'professional' sites abound (like yours), a 'hobby' site like mine had better offer something else and not more of the same.

And since i have your attention. Where do you get all the specific information from needed for a CM-scale scenario ? Unit histories ? Just curious.

    Greetings smile.gif S Bakker

  9. Hmm, these test materials were very handy thank you very much.

I used the template as a basis for a 'review template' which i will use to, well, review scenario's on my site.

I hope Bill doesn't mind that i cloned and genetically engineered his brain child. smile.gif

PS: Bill, i am busy reviewing Midnight Madness at Pruem and i love the 'special names'. smile.gif

  10. Well greasypig, there is no short answer. There is no short list wih says 'do this and you nuke them all'. You will have to train a sixth sense on how to use armor on the battle field but sadly Yoda is booked solid until 2004 biggrin.gif.

    But seriously, some simple obvious (and needles ??) tips;

    1. Movement is a weapon

A tank is not a bunker. Use its mobility to get at the flanks and rear of the enemy.

    2. Positioning is a weapon

Get those hulldown positions, flank shots and overwatch positions. Use 'narrow' fields of fire if possible.

    3. Concentrate firepower

Don't pick one-on-one fights. Seek to outgun your opponent. For example use the Fionn method; determine the enemies path of advance and train as many guns on it as possible smile.gif.

    4. Practice practice, practice

    5-99 see 4 wink.gif

No doubt many tips can be added to this list. And if i were you i would take Scott's offer.

    Grtz S Bakker

PS: just curious, you play with full FOW is presume ?
