  1. Count your blessings - Mine arrived in Minnesota . . . And it won't install - multiple bitmaps fail to match the cab data file: probably a bad disc. Sent an email to BTS and hope to receive a replacement disc, eventually. Sigh. Oh well, I have the manual to read.
  2. Well, the game came and I happily went to install it. Full install, directed to non-default disk (not C: drive) and start - Immediately received error message : BMP 1000 (or whatever) does not match CAB file; the media you are installing from may be corrupted. Please contact your vendor. Tried several times. If I choose "ignore" it keeps happening - not for every bitmap but for at least 20 before I gave up with the game 20% installed. What's up? do I have a bad CD? Do I have to wait all over again for a replacement disc (at least I have the manual to read, even if no game to play). Any suggestions?
  3. I have a Dell Latitude with Rage Mobility, etc. Had a great deal of trouble with the beta demo (no cursor, etc) but am running gold demo at 1000 something x 700 something (top resolution for my display) with no trouble. Smoke: "Transparent" smoke looks exactly the same as "Fast and compatible" smoke, except bigger. Buildings: In default setup, there is no transparency. If I toggle hot key to "transparency off" then the walls disappear on the occupied floor. So I guess, no building wall transparency. Not cool overall, but definitely playable and all things considered, I'm happy.
  4. Likewise, thanks. I got home and immediately fired up the laptop, and darned if CM didn't run right, cursor and all. Never happened before. I suppose something was different about screen resolution and so on. Sigh. I never had problems like this when I was a Mac-man (but then, most of the software I wanted wasn't available). Oh well - I'm glad to hear this should be fixed in the final code.
  5. I have a Dell Latitude with Rage Mobility chip and have posted about this problem as well, hoping against hope that the full version would work. I also suspect no joy until/unless a driver update appears. But . . . I'm excited by the tip about changing the resolution and will try that as soon as I get home. If such a work around is successful, I'll be happy on the road. Thanks for the experimentation, Eridani
  6. I'm using DirectX 6.1 - don't go to the trouble of changing back for this problem 'cause is won't help. Sigh - one can hope the gold demo/full game will work - it's when I'm gone I have the most time to play, so I had great hopes for my laptop. ------------------ Bruce A. Evans
  7. I have a Dell CPt-V with the same video setup and I have exactly the same problem. I can only get the cursor to show up by COMPLETELY turning off hardware acceleration; turning it down one notch on the "performance" slider didn't do the job. I've just been hoping that this is a "demo thing" and that the final product/gold demo would work on the Rage mobility / Dell driver setup. Anyone know for sure?? ------------------ Bruce A. Evans
  8. Sorry for the intrusion - the driver/display problem topic hasn't had anything added in two months, and I couldn't find anything searching the archives. I tried to install the Demo on my Laptop - Dell CPt-V with rage mobility 3D. Looks great, better than on my old 233MMx with Voodoo2, BUT: On intro screens when I move the cursor it leaves a rectangle behind with the previous screen showing through. In the game itself the cursor isn't visible - sometimes just a flicker when I move it quickly. It's there somewhere because the screen scrolls, etc. The textures look great, the scrolling is smooth. Just . . . no cursor. I am using the default windows cursors (I think). I was hoping to take CM on a trip with me. Any ideas? As far as I can tell, there is no update to the driver available. Using DirectX 6.1 and it tests out OK on the directx testing tool. [This message has been edited by baevans (edited 01-16-2000).]
